News International is committed to reducing its on-premises infrastructure and moving to the cloud. It uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) extensively due to the ability to quickly scale up resources as needed and only pay for what is used through AWS's utility pricing model. Moving systems and services to AWS required redesigning applications to be fault-tolerant and scalable. While challenging, AWS provided significant cost savings over maintaining their own data centers and hardware. News International hopes AWS will continue expanding its platform-as-a-service and software-as-a-service offerings.
