This richly illustrated collection includes five popular Russian folk tales: Vasilisa the Beautiful; Maria Morevna; The Feather of Finist the Falcon; The Frog-Tsarevna; Tsarevich Ivan, the Firebird and the Grey Wolf. The illustrations featured in this edition were created in the early 20th century by Ivan Yakovlevich Bilibin, a famous Russian illustrator and stage designer, who was inspired by Slavic folklore throughout his career. He was a prominent figure in the artistic movement Mir Iskusstva and contributed to the Ballets Russes. The tales were recorded by the renowned folklorist Alexander Nikolayevich Afanasyev (1826-1871), who collected and published more than 600 Russian folk tales in the middle 19th century.
These slides were prepared for my students of AVS College of Arts & Science, Pantherankavu, near Calicut otherwise known as Kozhikkode. There my UG students have to study Shakespeare, his tragedies, comedies, historical plays, sonnets. Reading drama and appreciating it is what is to be taught to them.
SLIDESHOW - Collection of artworks featuring books and readers from throughout history, for the delight of art lovers and bibliophiles. The act of reading, especially reading that is done by a woman, is a very common subject matter throughout art history, despite the paucity of women's education throughout the centuries.
Blaise Vlaho Bukovac (1855 – 1922), Theodore Robinson (1852 – 1895), Charles Perugini (1839 – 1918), Nikolai Bogdanov -Belsky (1868 – 1945) etc.

There were many Western female artists and paintings in history. It is not possible to do them all in a single slideshow. Here is my selection mapped out the more well-known Western female painters in history. I have also given priority for those have a portrait of the artist.
This is one of the more difficult slideshows to make because these female painters are relatively unknown. Their high quality of paintings, are difficult to find. Surprisingly many of these high-quality paintings came from auction houses. 26.10.2021
