Carla Hunter will be teaching 7th grade math. She has over 17 years of teaching experience and advanced degrees in education. She will cover topics like integers, expressions, equations, geometry, statistics, and probability over the course of the school year. Formative and summative assessments will make up students' grades, and support is available through morning help sessions and LST time on Thursdays.  About the teacher…
 Hello, my name is Carla Hunter. I am proud and
honored to be joining the faculty of Piney Grove Middle
School as a 7th grade math teacher. I earned my
Bachelor’s degree from Marshall University in
Elementary Education and Middle School Math and my
Master’s degree from the University of Georgia in
Middle School Education. Additionally, I earned my
Gifted Certification from Gwinnett County Public
Schools in 2015. Currently I am working on my
Educational Specialist degree in Educational Design and
Technology from Valdosta State University. I will
complete this degree in December, 2016. I have 17 years
of teaching experience that spans 5th, 6th, and 7th grade
math.

3. Personal Information
On a personal side, I have been married to my hero
Mark for 36th years. We have three daughters, Carli,
Kristin, and Kate, and three grandchildren, Cailyn,
Sydney, and Jack. Additional members of my family
include my two boxers, Buster and Babe, and my two
parrotlets, Louie and Vito.

5. Grading and Reporting
 Formatives- homework, classwork, and quizzes are 20% of the
grade.
 Summatives- end of unit assessments and projects which
determine a student‘s mastery of the standards are 80% of the
grade.
 Students may retake 2 summative assessments per semester
per subject if the original score is 79 or below.
 Checking parent portal is an excellent way to monitor your
child’s schoolwork. It will give you their grades, missing
assignments, and late assignments.
 Work habits include responsibility, participation, assignment
completion, and interpersonal skills.

6. Student Support
 LST- Takes place on Thursdays for 1 hour in the morning.
 LST is a time for students to focus on their academic
development through:
 Participating in a “re-teach” session with their teachers.
 Utilizing the technology and resources available here at school.
 Discovering endeavors of enrichment such as science and socials
studies fair and other academic contests.
 Developing study and organizational skills.
 Students are encouraged to take full use of this time and to self
advocate for their needs.
 Morning Help sessions- Tuesday’s at 8:15am
