For nearly a decade, the Emirates Foundation has received British support to fund cultural programs across the UAE. In 2007, the Emirates Foundation and the Booker Prize Foundation created the International Prize for Arabic Fiction to encourage Arabic literature translation, increase readership, and recognize creative writing achievement. Furthermore, the UAE has long admired British falconry traditions and at a 2009 falconry festival, Prince Andrew received a falcon gift while the British Army's Household Cavalry performed in Abu Dhabi for the first time.

organizations to fund cultural programs across
the United Arab Emirates. In 2007, the Emirates
Foundation and the UK-based Booker Prize
Foundation announced the International Prize
for Arabic Fiction. The prize aims to encourage
translation of Arabic literature, increase
readership of Arabic literature throughout the
world, and recognize achievement in
contemporary Arabic creative writing.

3. Furthermore, the UAE has long expressed an
admiration for the British tradition of falconry. At
the 2009 International Festival of Falconry,
Prince Andrew received a white female falcon
from Abu Dhabi Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoun Al
Nahyan. That same year, the Musical Ride of
the British Army’s Household Cavalry made its
first appearance in Abu Dhabi. For more than
350 years, the Household Cavalry has acted as
the personal bodyguard of Her Majesty the
Queen.
