Charles Dickens was a famous English writer born in 1812 who wrote 15 novels during his lifetime including classics like Oliver Twist, A Tale of Two Cities, and Great Expectations. He used his fiction to criticize social and economic issues of the Victorian era. Dickens spent most of his life in London but also traveled within Britain and overseas. He became internationally famous after the success of The Pickwick Papers and is still widely read today for his deep understanding of human psychology portrayed through his characters.

DICKENS?
Charles Dickens was a famous English writer and
social analyst who is known as one of the finest
author of the Victorian Period.
3. WHAT DID HE DO?
In his lifetime, Charles Dickens composed many
great novels like Bleak House, Great Expectations,
Little Dorrit, David Copperfield, Our Mutual
Friend, A Tale of Two Cities, The Pickwick Papers,
Hard Times, Dombey and Son and Oliver Twist.
Charles Darwin did not only compose many great
novels but also used fiction to criticise economic,
social and moral abuses.
4. WHEN DID HE LIVE?
Dickens was born on the 7th of February, 1812 at
Landport, Portsmouth, England, and died on the 9th
of June, 1870 at age 58 at Gad’s Hill Place, Higham,
Kent, England.
During this time, Charles Dickens wrote 15 novels.
5. WHERE DID HE LIVE?
Charles Dickens spent most of his teenage and adult
years living in London but after he married his wife
in 1836 he started to travell within Britain and
overseas.
6. WHY IS HE SO FAMOUS?
Charles Dickens is so famous because of the amazing
novels he wrote even though his father went into
prison. Even as soon as the 20th century, Charles
Dickens genius had been fully recognised by critics
and scholars.
7. HOW DID HE BECOME
FAMOUS?
Dickens became famous by writing the Pickwick
Papers, which soon after publishing, became famous
worldwide.
8. HOW DO PEOPLE STILL
KNOW ABOUT HIM?
We still know about him because as The Guardian
says, Dickens “perception and investigation of the
human psyche is deep, precise, and illuminating, and
because he tells us things about ourselves by
portraying personality traits and habits that might
seem all too familiar.”
