The Consortium of CTCI Corporation, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and Mitsubishi Corporation won a contract from Taiwan Power Company to construct a 2,600 MW combined cycle power plant at Tung Hsiao Thermal Power Plant. The consortium will build three power generation units of over 850 MW each to replace outdated facilities and meet Taiwan's growing energy demands. Unit 1 and 2 are scheduled to begin commercial operation in September 2016 and January 2017, respectively, with Unit 3 following in June 2017. Corporation won 2,600 MW Tung Hsiao Combined Cycle Power Plant Project from Taiwan
Power Company
Consortium of CTCI Corporation, Taiwan (CTCI), Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, LTD., Japan (MHI) and
Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan (MC) has received a full­turnkey order from Taiwan Power Company
(Taipower) to construct three combined cycle power generation units – Unit 1, 2 and 3, with over 850
MW each – at Taipower’s Tung Hsiao Thermal Power Plant. The contract is the third large turnkey
order awarded to CTCI by Taipower since renewal project for Lin kou Power Plant in 2011. It calls for
the construction of three power generation units to replace the existing facilities at the plant, based on
Taiwan’s Energy Source Development Plan. Unit 1 and 2 are scheduled to commence commercial
operation in September 2016 and January 2017, respectively; Unit 3 is expected to go on­stream in
June 2017.
According to the planning for Taipower’s Energy Source Development Plan, the main target is to aim at
fulfilling the demand of domestic electrical growth and complementing the power deficiency caused by
decommissioning of the outdated existing power units. The Tung Hsiao Combined Cycle Power Plant
Project is the third one among Taipower’s approved thermal power plant projects. The Consortium
standing out from the other competitors in this fierce competition spoke volumes about CTCI/MHI/MC’s
outstanding services and exceptional competence in the engineering and construction field. It also
demonstrated CTCI’s firm ambition to explore the power market worldwide. With the success of
winning the Lin Kou, Talin and Tung Hsiao projects, CTCI has paved the way for making its mark again
on the following Taipower’s Dah Tarn and Shen­Ao Power Plant Expansion or Renewal Projects.
