14. Lower limbs angiography
• Superficial system :-
Two veins
• (Short saphenous laterally, long
saphenous medially)
• Deep system:-
- Accompanying the arteries,
two vena comitans below knee.
15. Indications
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) (The most common indication).
Technique:-
• Apply tight ankle tourniquet.
(so that the contrast will be blocked from entering the superficial veins
forcing it into the deep veins).
• Place butterfly needle into a vein on the dorsum of
the foot.
• Inject contrast material and imaging during venous
phase.
16. Acute DVT
Axial CT venogram at the calf level
shows Bilateral DVT.
- Multiple endoluminal filling defects
in left posterior tibial and peroneal
veins as well as in sural veins
bilaterally (arrows).
- Thrombosed veins are enlarged.
- Strongly enhanced dilated superficial collateral veins on both
sides (arrowheads)
