What we did well
•Recruitment of dedicated volunteers
(medical doctors and parents)
•Improvement of the volunteers’
capabilities in becoming effective
campaigners on AB and ABR themes
•Utilize YOP’s existing network of
volunteers, communities, and
partners to implement and expand
health promotional activities
•Utilize YOP’s existing Internet-based
channels to disseminate information
on AB and ABR

What we need to improve or
address
•Providing of direct supervision and
technical assistance to volunteers
(parents)
•Preparing good documentation of the
activities in various formats to be
shared and used as references
•Volunteers’ limited communication
skills to provide effective counsel to
target communities
•Limited political power of YOP to gain
bigger support from the target
stakeholders and more volunteers
particularly from health professionals

Editor's Notes

  • #2 Introduction of myselfIntroduction of YOP: we are parents and medical doctors who are concerned about maternal and child health, and want to improve the quality of health services in Indonesia by encouraging parents as health consumers to improve their knowledge about health issues, and adapt the behavior of using medicines rationally as this is one of the principles for patient’s safety. We encourage parents to actively find information about health, not rely solely on doctors, and position themselves as partners for their doctors in making decisions about the best health treatment for them and their families. Our educational program focuses on internet-based platform using yahoogroups mailing list so we can share information, experiences, and stories among parents. The medical doctors support us in giving medical or scientific information. This is complemented with a series of face-to-face health seminars where parents teach other parents, also supported by medical doctors.
