The book Cry of the Icemark by Stuart Hill follows Thirrin Freer, princess of the Icemark, as she works to form an alliance against the invading army of the mad general Scipio Bellorum. When her father and army are killed defending the country, Thirrin travels to gain the support of the vampires, werewolves, forest kings, and leopards. Though outnumbered, their combined forces are able to defeat Scipio's army in a climactic battle on a full moon night with the timely arrival of the supernatural allies. However, Scipio himself escapes.

When the king of Pratibandapuram and his queen had their first baby ten day old the astrologers made a prediction that the child would grow up and one day meet his death. While others heard them sadly, the baby prince asked a very wise question as to what was new in such a prediction as it is a universal truth that everyone should die.
When the child grew up and became the new king, he was nicknamed The Tiger King because he went on a tiger hunt to kill the hundredth tiger to remove his fear of death. Gradually the tiger population in his country went dry. To hunt further tigers he married a princess whose father’s forest had tigers in it.
The hundredth tiger was not very easy to hunt down. The king became furious and mad and dismissed many of the officers. Being a wise man, the devan knew the country would pass into the hands of Indian National Congress and that he too would lose his position, he decided to bring an old tiger from the People’s Park in Madras.

It was in the spring of the second year of his insurrection against the High Sheriff of Nottingham that Robin Hood took a walk in Sherwood forest. As he walked he pondered the progress of the campaign, the disposition of his forces, the Sheriff's recent moves, and the options that confronted him.
The revolt against the Sheriff had begun as a personal crusade. It erupted out of Robin's conflict with the Sheriff and his administration. However, alone Robin Hood could do little. He therefore sought allies, men with grievances and a deep sense of justice. Later he welcomed all who came, asking few questions, and demanding only a willingness to serve. Strength, he believed, lay in numbers.
He spent the first year forging the group into a disciplined band, united in enmity against the sheriff, and willing to live outside the law. The band's organization was simple. Robin ruled supreme, making all important decisions. He delegated specific tasks to lieutenants. Will Scarlet was in charge of intelligence and scouting. His main job was to shadow the Sheriff and his men, always alert to their next move. He also collected information on the travel plans of rich merchants and tax collectors. Little John kept discipline among the men, and saw to it that their archery was at the high peak that their profession demanded. Scarlock took care of finances, converting loot to cash, paying shares of the take, and finding suitable hiding places for the surplus. Finally, Much the Miller's son had the difficult task of provisioning the ever-increasing band of Merrymen.
The increasing size of the band was a source of satisfaction for Robin, but also a source of concern. The fame of his Merrrymen was spreading, and new recruits poured in from every corner of England. As the band grew larger, their small bivouac became a major encampment. Between raids the men milled about, talking and playing games. Vigilance was in decline, and discipline was becoming harder to enforce. "Why," Robin reflected, "I don't know half the men I run into these days."
The growing band was also beginning to exceed the food capacity of the forest. Game was becoming scarce, and supplies had to be obtained from outlying villages. The cost of buying food was beginning to drain the band's financial reserves at the very moment when revenues were in decline. Travelers, especially those with the most to lose, were now giving the forest a wide berth. This was costly and inconvenient to them, but it was preferable to having all their goods confiscated.
Robin believed that the time had come for the Merrymen to change their policy of outright confiscation of goods to one of a fixed transit tax. His lieutenants strongly resisted this idea. They were proud of the Mermens’ famous motto: "Rob from the rich and give to the poor." "The farmers and townspeople," they argued, "are our most important allies. The peddler accepts the ironmaster's daughter's invitation to their home out of kindness, but his theft is discovered. Robin Hood
It was in the spring of the second year of his insurrection against the High Sheriff of Nottingham that Robin Hood took a walk in Sherwood forest. As he walked he pondered the progress of the campaign, the disposition of his forces, the Sheriff's recent moves, and the options that confronted him.
The revolt against the Sheriff had begun as a personal crusade. It erupted out of Robin's conflict with the Sheriff and his administration. However, alone Robin Hood could do little. He therefore sought allies, men with grievances and a deep sense of justice. Later he welcomed all who came, asking few questions, and demanding only a willingness to serve. Strength, he believed, lay in numbers.
He spent the first year forging the group into a disciplined band, united in enmity against the sheriff, and willing to live outside the law. The band's organization was simple. Robin ruled supreme, making all important decisions. He delegated specific tasks to lieutenants. Will Scarlet was in charge of intelligence and scouting. His main job was to shadow the Sheriff and his men, always alert to their next move. He also collected information on the travel plans of rich merchants and tax collectors. Little John kept discipline among the men, and saw to it that their archery was at the high peak that their profession demanded. Scarlock took care of finances, converting loot to cash, paying shares of the take, and finding suitable hiding places for the surplus. Finally, Much the Miller's son had the difficult task of provisioning the ever-increasing band of Merrymen.
The increasing size of the band was a source of satisfaction for Robin, but also a source of concern. The fame of his Merrrymen was spreading, and new recruits poured in from every corner of England. As the band grew larger, their small bivouac became a major encampment. Between raids the men milled about, talking and playing games. Vigilance was in decline, and discipline was becoming harder to enforce. "Why," Robin reflected, "I don't know half the men I run into these days."
The growing band was also beginning to exceed the food capacity of the forest. Game was becoming scarce, and supplies had to be obtained from outlying villages. The cost of buying food was beginning to drain the band's financial reserves at the very moment when revenues were in decline. Travelers, especially those with the most to lose, were now giving the forest a wide berth. This was costly and inconvenient to them, but it was preferable to having all their goods confiscated.
Robin believed that the time had come for the Merrymen to change their policy of outright confiscation of goods to one of a fixed transit tax. His lieutenants strongly resisted this idea. They were proud of the Mermens’ famous motto: "Rob from the rich and give to the poor." "The farmers and townspeople," they argued, "are our most important allies. He was invited to join a conspiracy against the powerful and unstable Prince John but it was a dangerous proposition that could end in his death if failed. Robin left his pondering unresolved to attend to the evening meal, promising to revisit these problems after the next day's raid.

Bilbo Baggins goes on an adventure with Gandalf and thirteen dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield. They face many dangers on their journey, including trolls, goblins, giant spiders, and being imprisoned by wood elves. Bilbo discovers Gollum and a magic ring. Eventually they reach the Lonely Mountain, where Bilbo encounters Smaug the dragon. Robin Hood was an English heroic outlaw who lived in Sherwood Forest near Nottingham during the reign of King Richard the Lionheart. He was skilled with a bow and arrow and helped the poor by stealing from the rich, having become an outlaw for shooting the King's deer. He lived in the forest with his band of Merry Men, which included his second-in-command Little John and the minstrel Alan A Dale.

Cry of the icemark
- 1. Cry of the Icemark By: Stuart Hill
- 2. Characters • King Redrought- Thirrins father the king of the Icemark. • Thirrin Freer- Daughter of King Redrought and Princess of the Icemark. • Oskan Witches Son- The son of a witch healer who befriends Thirrin after taking care of one of her soldiers wounds. • Scipio Bellorum- Crazy yet brilliant Polypontian general who has never lost a battle. • King Grishmak- Werewolf king. • King and Queen Vampires- Selfish vampire rulers. • Holly King and Oak King- The kings of the forest who have forest soldiers. • Tharaman-Thar- One hundredth Thar of the Leopard kingdom.
- 3. Beginning • The Icemark is a small country in the far north that borders both the lands of the Werewolves and the Vampires. • The Polypontian Empire is a massive country south of the Icemark. • The Polypontians are lead by a mad man by the name of Scipio Bellorum. Scipio is one of the most birlliant generals alive. He has never lost a battle and has conquered most of the known world. Now he sets his sights on the tiny kingdom of the Icemark. • Thirrin Freer realizes that they cannot win with out allies. When her father goes out to meet the Polypontians in the field Thirrin sets out to make alliances with the Vampires and the Werewolfs. • In the first battle of the book King Redrought and his entire army are killed but they took out the entire Polypontian Vanguard force.
- 4. Middle • Thirrin succeeds in gaining the alliance of both the vampires and the Werewolves. She also made two new unsuspected allies. Leopards who lived in the extreme north and the Holly and Oak King of the forests. • The ghosts of the capital city of the Icemark scared or killed all of the Polypontian soldiers stationed there so Thirrin and her army of humans and leopards march in unapposed. They spend the spring months there training and waiting for the inevitable attack from Scipio. • It will be a long time before the Werewolves will be able to muster there army and the Vampires are an unreliable ally. • Scipio finally makes it to the Icemarks capital city and the Werewolves have still not been able to muster there army and the Vampires have still not arrived.
- 5. End • The men of the Icemark and the Leopards fight brilliantly and are able to hold off the Polypontians for over a week yet there numbers are dwindling and the Polypontians continue to receive reinforcements from there provinces. • Scipio launches his major attack on a night of a full moon. Just as everything seems to be lost the Vampires, Werewolves, and Zombies (The zombies are controlled by the vampires) come to the rescue and destroy Scipio Bellorums army. • Though Scipio Bellorum himself escapes capture his entire army is defeated and the Icemark is saved for the time being.
- 6. Stuart Hill • Was born and still lives in Leicester, England. • Inspiration for his character Thirrin Freer was his sister who died of Leukemia when he was a teenager. • Has written three books total. Cry of the Icemark, Blade of Fire, and Last Battle of the Icemark.
