AS – Media Studies ( Sentenced) by Hamna Abid
How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it
represent social groups and issues?
 The social group I have attracted are from
teenagers to young adults. From the age of
15 to 30.
 The main character of my film (Asad) is a 20
year old teenager, and the other characters
which are kidnapped and tortured are also
teenage boys, other than that I took a young
adult as a cop.
 The audience that my production is targeted
at would be class A and B, upper middle class
and middle class and somewhat lower middle
class.
 I have represented class within my
production through my main character, as he
is a serial killer, he is supposed to be of lower
middle class since he steals and kidnaps
people for not only just for pleasure but for
money too.
 In my production, I represented males more
than female.There is rarely any female in my
product except for that little girl, which
shows that females are mostly victimized
when it comes to violation and kidnapping in
our society.
 In short my productions confirms the
stereotype that men are more powerful then
women.
How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be
distributed as a real media text?
 The genre of my product is crime/drama
which both teenagers and young adults enjoy
watching.
 Other than that there is psycho killer music
playing in the background, which also spice
ups the film.
 Warner bros has been making films of many
genres throughout the past years, and one of
their film ‘The suicide squad’ inspired me to
make my film.The character in the film that
inspired me the most was the joker, who is a
psycho serial killer just like the main character of
my film.
 My final product has been uploaded on youtube
and also on my blog, it is assembled and laid
down in a way that it represent a crime/drama
genre with a killer music playing in background,
which represents the plot of the story.
How did your production skills developed throughout this project?
 I learnt a lot during this particular stage, I did all
the secondary research regarding the genre of
my film, then I did the primary research which I
got a positive feedback on. And then I started
with the script writing and storyboarding which
was very time consuming. I had to re write and
re draw the shots and scenes again and again
until I was satisfied with it. Other than that I had
to choose some convenient locations for my
shoot. I however think that the hardest part was
choosing cast cause not everyone was willing to
participate or act in this.
 This was my favorite part in the whole film
making because I learnt a lot of different
ways to shoot, I learnt how to take the
panning and tilting shots. I didn’t schedule
any of the shots, I just did it randomly and
then compiled it later according to my script
and storyboarding in post production.
 One of the key parts of the post production was
working with stereotypes, personally I found this
editing a bit hard since I didn’t knew how to do it
at the first place, I learnt the editing through
tutorials and then edited the whole film. I learnt
how to apply different transitions in the clips, I
color graded each and every clip since my film
consists of flashbacks so I had to color grade in a
different color to show that particular scene was
happening in the past. I also experimented with
audio effects and background music.
How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in
this project?
 I used softwares like adobe premiere pro and
adobe after affects to edit my product.
 I used hardwares like tripod, mics, cameras
and lights to shoot this project.
 This year I learned how to use wordpress to
create a website and upload it online.

  • 14.  I used softwares like adobe premiere pro and adobe after affects to edit my product.  I used hardwares like tripod, mics, cameras and lights to shoot this project.  This year I learned how to use wordpress to create a website and upload it online.
