7. Every organization is vulnerable to crises. The days of playing ostrich –
burying your head in the sand and hoping the problem goes away – are
gone. You can try, but your stakeholders will not be understanding or
forgiving because they’ve watched what happened with Volkswagen,
Chipotle, FIFA, Lance Armstrong, American Airlines, Pan Am, Swissair,
HMV, Equifax, Hurricanes Harvey and Katrina, as well as the recent
COVID-19 pandemic.
If you don’t prepare, you will incur more damage. When I look at
existing crisis management-related plans while conducting a vulnerability
audit (the first step in crisis preparedness), what I often find is a failure to
address the many communications issues related to crisis or disaster
response. Experience demonstrates that organizational leadership often
does not understand that in the absence of adequate internal and external
communications:
• Operational response will break down.
• Stakeholders will not know what is happening and quickly become
confused, angry, and negatively reactive.
• The organization will be perceived as inept, at best, and criminally
negligent, at worst.
• The length of time required to bring full resolution to the issue will be
extended, often dramatically.
• The impact to the financial and reputational bottom line will be more
severe.
8. What is a Crisis?
“Any situation that is threatening or could threaten to hard people
or property, seriously interrupt business, significantly damage
reputation and/or negatively impact the bottom line.”
- Jonathan Bernstein - Crisis Management Expert

Microsoft Teams is a powerful hub for teamwork, whether you’re working at the office, on the road, or from home. It enables your team to work seamlessly together, integrating chat, calling, meetings, business process, task management and file collaboration.
Communities, on the other hand, connect with people across teams, and across the organization, to share knowledge and experience. In the past, Yammer and Teams were separate experiences, adding friction by requiring people to bounce back and forth between applications.
Today, you can add an important Yammer community to your team. Click “+” to add a tab, pick Yammer, and configure the community you want to display. For example, you can add a crisis response tab to your team, allowing you to follow and engage with conversations in the community without leaving your hub for teamwork.
Very soon, Microsoft will be releasing the new Yammer app for Teams, which will bring the new Yammer experience, in full fidelity, into Teams. This will give Teams customers a more powerful hub for teamwork that integrates their investments in Yammer. Stay tuned for more as we near the release of the Yammer app for Teams.

Make the most of meetings
Use meeting descriptions to outline clear meeting objectives and agendas
Utilize chat for documents and additional resources. These will be available before and after the meeting for reference
Utilize whiteboard apps to communicate concepts
If acceptable in the organization and the meeting attendees, record meetings and store them in either Stream or the team’s document repository.
Be a leader and use video
Use video when possible. Starting the use of video can encourage others to follow suite
Turn on background blur to eliminate environmental distractions for attendees
Pick your mute strategy. You can mute your device and Teams. If you use both, you may cause more problems for yourself during the meeting
Meeting notes and action items
Use the Meeting notes feature to track general notes for the meeting as well as action items. They will stay with the meeting and allow others to catch up on meeting updates quickly.
Use another app such as Planner, SharePoint Tasks Lists, Asana or Trello ensure timely completion of action items
Keep track of time during the meeting and use the last 5-10 meetings to review and confirm the location of Meeting notes and the approach for action item management
Encourage coworkers to personalize their Teams experience
Pin favorite contacts, 1:1 or group chats and other useful materials for easy access.
Reorder teams to depict personal priority hiding teams as necessary
Manage notifications via Profile Settings
5. Be careful working in multiple tenants
Be sure to note when working in partner instances of Microsoft Teams. Switching from one tenant to another can cause issues creating group chats and other functionality.
As a failsafe, if you see missing features or experience irregular events, feel free to sign out of Teams and sign back in.
