The Growth Research Unit at Cracow University of Economics is hosting a summer school workshop in Poland from July 10-16, 2010. The workshop consists of three modules on growth and its determinants, finance and banking, and trade and investment. It includes company field trips and optional excursions to a salt mine and mountain resort. The total cost for the workshop modules, accommodations, and one event is 850 Euros. & Policy Challenges facing CE Europe
Invitation
The Growth Research Unit [GRU] at the Cracow University of Economics is a group of
international academics and/or policy makers specialised on the behavioural variance of
capitalist systems in the transforming economies of CE Europe and SE Asia. Our strength
areas of teaching and research interests are focused on the strategic determinants of
growth and the extent of their impact in influencing economic and social change.
We would like to invite international students to join our summer school programme in
Southern Poland, which will run for seven days and which is made up of three specialised
workshops and includes a built in company field trip. The three workshop modules that will
be provided are:
Growth & its Determinants, Finance & Banking and Trade & Investment. Each of these
modules will draw closely on related fields such as welfare distribution, labour market
change, public & private finance, policy, foreign direct investment, its location and its impact
on the development of regional production and trade. Each module will run for a period of
two days and has been designed to provide students with a comprehensive insight into the
development and operation of these areas of economic activity in the former socialist
countries of CE Europe, while at the same time addressing some of the key decisions and
policy challenges that these countries will be facing in the years ahead. This three-part
programme integrates a company field trip, which will enable students to gain an on-the-
ground insight as well as some orientation as to the scale of economic progress achieved
to date.
Optional Visits
In addition to the seven-day workshop, students can also choose to join one or both of our
optional excursions. The first of these is an afternoon trip to the Wieliczka Salt Mine, which
will take place on Friday July 9th before the workshops programme gets underway on the
Saturday. Students may also opt to join a planned weekend trip to Zakopane in the Polish
mountains - a resort that attracts ski enthusiasts in the winter and which is popular for
tourists, hikers and sports enthusiasts in the summer. This trip has been organised to take
place at the end of the programme, departing Cracow on Saturday 17th July and returning
on Monday 19th. Please remember that these trips are purely optional and are not included
in the main programme.

• A fully guided tour of the mine
Weekend trip to Zakopane
The cost of this weekend excursion will be 130 Euros per head. This includes:
• Transport to and from Zakopane with our members of staff
• Two nights accommodation with breakfast
• Sightseeing tour of Zakopane
