 Founded in 1854 by Giacomo Costa, the company originally operated cargo ships, in order to
carry olive oils and textiles.
 In the year 1948 Costa started passenger services sailing, between Italy and South America
operated by the ship Anna C being the first cruise liner to cross the South Atlantic Ocean.
 In 2000, Carnival corporation fully acquired Costa Cruises. Based in Genoa, Italy, the cruise line
primarily caters to Italian cruise market, the company’s fourteen ships, which all sail under
Italian flags provides itineraries for global sailings.
