This document analyzes cost savings from using thin clients and CRT monitors over traditional desktops and LCD/TFT monitors for an office IT infrastructure. It estimates that thin clients can reduce IT infrastructure costs by 60% through lower power usage and replacement costs compared to desktop computers. Using CRT monitors rather than LCD/TFT monitors can also reduce costs by 60% while still lasting 5 years if second-hand monitors are used. An embedded computer is recommended for digital signage due to its low cost, maintenance needs, and ability to meet software licensing requirements.

combinations of computer hardware and software.

Comparison table between LCD / TFT monitor and CRT
The final selection of a display device for a desktop computer is usually driven by three
factors:
• The application (i.e., workplace characteristics and tasks)
• Price
• Purchaser preferences
TFT monitors consume less power than CRT monitors. A typical 15" CRT monitor
consumes about 100W of power whereas a corresponding TFT monitor would only
consume 30W of power. We save 70W when one uses a 15" TFT monitor instead of a

15" CRT monitor. This would translate to around 1 unit of electricity every 14 hours of
usage. So depending on the usage patter you can see how long it would take to break
even on the cost differential through energy savings. Say 1 Unit of energy costs 8
Rupees (approx 20 cents) and the cost differential is Rs 4000 (approx 100$) and with
use of TFT monitor for 10 hours every day, we will break even in around 700 working
days.
The average TFT lasts for 5 years and CRT monitor lasts 8-10 years.
By using second hand CRT monitor we can save nearly 50 % of monitor cost. I
recommend using second hand monitor that can last at least 5 years, low cost;
we can reduce our capital expenditure.
Digital signage hardware/ software:
The UltraClient is ideal for multimedia applications such as signage, advertising .The
UltraClient provides sufficient processing power to replace traditional desktop
computers for applications where desktops are either too big, too bulky or consume too
much energy. The UltraClient is fanless so it can be used in environments that
traditional desktop and laptop computers can not.

Direction forward: Internet cost needs to be worked out. We will use Google Apps,
it has free document editing, saving and collaboration tool. Cost of CRM can be worked
out based on complexity of Organization’s process.
