Australian risk management today ten steps for developing an anti corruption ...Dr Lendy Spires
The document outlines 10 steps that organizations can take to develop an effective anti-corruption culture. It begins by discussing the global nature of corruption issues and increasing regulations from countries like the US and UK. It then recommends that organizations implement the following key measures: 1) establish a zero-tolerance anti-corruption policy from the top-down, 2) conduct risk assessments tailored to the organization's industries and environments, 3) develop comprehensive integrity frameworks including detailed policies, 4) encourage open discussion of corruption issues, and 5) provide anti-corruption training and whistleblower hotlines to raise awareness and report issues. Taking these steps can help organizations reduce corruption risks and be viewed favorably by regulators.

This document summarizes a study that used social network analysis to analyze the network of companies and individuals in London's advertising industry. The study found the industry to be relatively well-connected, with some individuals identified as key connectors between clusters who help spread knowledge. It also found that company size did not necessarily determine how central and important a company was to the network. Geographic proximity seemed to have more influence on network centrality than company size. The study demonstrated social network analysis can be a useful tool for economic geographers to examine industry networks.

Public opinion does not tolerate the illicit enrichment and conflict of interest, while on duty. For example, to obtain assurances of lack of fraud and corruption by politically exposed persons (PEP) is on the rise everywhere. A PEP is defined as someone who, through their prominent position or influence, is more susceptible to being involved in bribery or corruption. In addition, any close business associate or family member of such a person will also be deemed as being a risk, and therefore could also be added to the PEP list.
This document summarizes a study that examines the relationship between corruption and firm investment in Vietnam using survey data from Vietnamese small and medium enterprises. The study tests two hypotheses: that corruption hinders firm investment by increasing costs and promoting rent-seeking behaviors, or that corruption boosts investment by helping firms overcome bureaucratic obstacles. The study employs both a simple logistic regression model and a bivariate probit model with a corruption instrument variable to address potential endogeneity between corruption and investment. The results provide evidence that corruption hinders firm investment in Vietnam, which may partially explain the negative effect of corruption on firm performance found in previous research.

This document discusses considerations for third party risk management and due diligence. It notes that while guidelines have not significantly changed, scrutiny of supplier and customer relationships has increased, requiring some level of due diligence. It recommends ranking third party risks based on factors like the size of the opportunity, proximity to government, country risk, type of third party, and industry. Higher risk third parties require more thorough investigative due diligence into areas such as ownership, finances, reputation and executives. Risk ranking helps determine the appropriate level and frequency of due diligence and monitoring for third parties.

Commercial viability of financial inclustion_JPS 9.3Andrew Parker
The document discusses the commercial viability of financial inclusion. It provides background on Andrew Parker and Sunil Sachdev, who have extensive experience in digital banking and payments. It then discusses how mobile phone penetration, regulatory trends, technological advances, and low-value payments infrastructures now make it feasible for financial institutions to offer financial services to more people through approaches like ANZ's goMoney mobile banking platform in the Pacific Islands. The document argues that financial institutions must approach inclusion as a long-term strategic play rather than short-term profits to achieve viability, and that public-private partnerships are essential.
The document discusses the concept of "Democratizing Data" which involves making data accessible, structured, and syndicated so it can be used by various applications and devices. This approach integrates transparency with efficiency, streamlined reporting, "smart regulation", and crowdsourcing. Democratizing data provides benefits like more informed policymaking, consensus building, better legislation, transparency, and lower costs. It also allows citizens to become "co-creators" by developing applications using open government data. The document advocates switching to a more data-centric approach across government and private organizations.

The document discusses achieving 100% third party due diligence. It notes that traditionally many organizations take a risk-based approach, focusing vetting efforts on high-risk third parties and leaving most unchecked. However, regulators now expect transparency and sound decision making regarding all third party relationships. The document outlines steps to conduct baseline screening of 100% of third parties, categorize risk, escalate review of higher-risk parties, and monitor all parties ongoing. It promotes using regulatory technology to enable comprehensive yet manageable third party due diligence.

Protests in many countries have escalated quickly from

from all parts of society. Their backgrounds may be
diverse, but the message is the same: more transparency
and accountability from our leaders is needed.
The 2011 Corruption Perceptions Index shows
that public frustration is well founded. No region or
country in the world is immune to the damages of

countries and territories assessed score below five on
a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 10 (very clean).
New Zealand, Denmark and Finland top the list, while
North Korea and Somalia are at the bottom.
