The Management Student
Association (MSA) is comprised
of approximately 850 students
enrolled in the Faculty of
Management at UBC Okanagan.
The MSA acts as the conduit

A student run initiative, the Management
Student Association (MSA) represents
over 850 promising leaders of tomorrow
that are registered in the Management
program at the University of British
Columbia Okanagan. Within the last
eight years, the MSA has grown and
exceeded the bar set by our peers and
the professionals within the business
community, while creating a lasting
impression on all our stakeholders.
I am personally thrilled to be able to
work with a talented group of Vice
Presidents that are driven and dedicated
in improving the opportunities offered to
the members of the MSA. Having taken
a more active role in the student body
this year, I have been very impressed by
our bright and diverse student body. I
am excited to both lead and learn from
them and help guide the MSA to new
heights of success.
All of the successes experienced by the
MSA to date can be largely attributed
to the support that the local Kelowna,
provincial, and Western Canadian
community have granted us with. As
a result, a wide variety of memorable
and effective opportunities have been
brought to our campus such as: guest
speakers, networking trips, category
focused business competitions,
charitable events and conferences both
locally and non-locally.
Through the opportunities the MSA
offers, the value of the degree
management students earn is both
increased and enriched, as these
types of events blend the real world
experience and classroom knowledge
together, creating an exceptional
undergraduate experience tailored for
management students.
Through the support given by the
business community, the MSA is
able to provide elevating experiences
for the student body. These strategic
partnerships provide students with the
their skill sets, as well as propel them
closer to the network of employment
opportunities outside the classroom.

The Faculty of Management at UBC
Okanagan takes as its vision the
development of informed students,
citizens, leaders and entrepreneurs who
understand businesses and organizations
from multiple perspectives, accounting for
public interests in particular communities
and regions. We envision our students as
people who are creative in imagining and
realizing their future.

demands full connection. The Faculty of
Management helps prepare tomorrow’s
innovators and leaders, not only by
providing programming to develop
capabilities, skills and resourcefulness, but
also by assisting students in the task of
expanding their network.
The Management Student Association
(MSA) is leadership in action, a group of
engaged young professionals who are
elected representatives of the Faculty of
Management student body. Their mission
is to ‘build experiences that inspire’
through creation of a strong student
network and development of leadership
skills through a combination of fun and
scholarship.
The MSA organizes a variety of activities
outside the classroom that help connect
the Faculty of Management students to
the business community. They invite guest
speakers to campus, organize networking
events, undertake community service
trips, and run the Annual Distinguished
Leadership Gala.

5. RIVAL CASE COMPETITION
HOSTED ON FRIDAY 22ND
AND SATURDAY 23RD
NOVEMBER 2013
TITLE SPONSORSHIP COVERS:

The second annual rival
case competition is a great
opportunity for students to
develop case analysis and
presentation skills, as well
as network with business
professionals.
On Friday evening, students will
start the event with a casual
wine and cheese gathering
where they will meet their
mentor and network with other
business professionals.
The following morning, students
will be given their cases and a
total of three hours to prepare
Mentors then give their
feedback to students and allot
them two hours to condense
minutes in preperation for the
second round.
On Saturday evening, a
reception will be hosted at
a hotel in Kelowna where all
students, mentors, judges,
and community members can
to go through the last round of
presentations.
After dinner, the Rival Case
Competition’s sponsor will
award prizes to the winning
team and close the event.

entrepreneurial panel of judges
on a two-day long experience.
This provides students with a

HOSTED ON SATURDAY FEBRUARY 8TH

The First and Second Year
Competition is designed to test
lower level student’s business
knowledge, presentation skills,
and give them insight into more
advanced case competitions.
Students are given a case
study and present to a panel
of judges consisting of faculty
members, alumni, and business
professionals.
Students receive mentorship
from business professionals,
faculty advisors, and alumni
that guide them through an
abbreviated business challenge.
The competition helps build
prepare them for success in the
business world.

5 DAYS 5K RUN
HOSTED ON SUNDAY MARCH 9TH
, 2014
TITLE SPONSORSHIP COVERS:
The thought behind the 5 days
for the homeless campaign is to
raise awareness and money for
homelessness and show that
business students care about
society.
Students volunteer to live
without a home or money for
goodwill of others to provide
them with food and drinks.
Previous years’ support has
been amazing due to coverage
from local TV stations, radio
stations as well as newspapers.
The 5days 5K run is the start off
event for this campaign with a
5km run around campus that is
open to all students as well as
the community.
