In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conv...
Conventions
1. We will be using stereotypical locations for scarier
scenes such as car parks, churches, graveyards and
children’s play areas.
Also we are using less characters, which
is a common convention in horrors.
2. We will be using faster paced editing for the
‘horror’ scenes, and slower paced editing for the
beginning scenes. Starting with slower editing
and building up is typical of most genre’s.
Also, the trailer includes a child and possession
which is common in psychological horrors.
We are also using lighting in a typical way as the
scarier scenes will be darker. Before the
‘problem’ is revealed the scenes will be brighter
to create a sense of happiness.
3. Typically places with dark histories are
used, such as houses that people have died
in, asylums and haunted hotels. In our trailer
this won’t be the case. The house is not
haunted.
Our trailer won’t include gore which is typical of
horror films, however it is not typical of
Psychological horrors.
The main victim is a male which goes against
conventions in psychological horrors. Usually a
woman is the main victim. For example in
‘Psycho’ and ‘The Shining’.
We may be using a child and possession which
are common in psychological horrors, however
it is usually the child that gets possessed and
the child in our trailer is the one possessing.
