Our media product uses some conventional horror/thriller elements but also challenges conventions. The narrative of a man inheriting a haunted house and being tormented by the ghost of a young girl is conventional, though we add mystery around why she is haunting the house. Lighting uses a darker blue tint to make scenes scary and chilling, conforming to genre expectations, but also uses high key lighting at times. The two main characters, a male protagonist and a ghostly young girl, fit thriller/horror conventions to make the protagonist relatable and the girl creepy as desired.

2. Narrative
Our narrative is not too conventional for a
Psychological horror/thriller. In our piece, a
man inherits a house which is being
haunted by a young girl.

3. The fact that the house is being haunted by
a ghostly figure is quite conventional,
however, we managed to create quite a
few enigma codes. Such as why is there a
young girl’s spirit haunting the house?

4. Mise en scène
With the lighting, we did not break any conventions of
the horror/thriller genre. We used a darker tint in order to
make the entire thing more scary, and I also added a
blue tint in order to make the entire thing look chilling
and unnerving.

5. However, there are elements of high
key lighting used, for example, when our
male protagonist is walking up the stairs
before he reaches the attic.

6. Characters
The 2 main characters in our piece
‘Deceased memory’ are quite typical for a
horror thriller movie.
