2. EARLY LIFE
Robert Hooke was an English natural philosopher.
He was born on 18 July 1635 in England, Isle of wight.
His parents were John Hooke and Cecily Gyler.
He spent most of his childhood at home.
His father has thought that his son would become an artist or
clockmaker.
When he was 13 his father died.
He then faced many difficulties in life.
3. CONTRIBUTIONS
Robert Hooke had brought an important turning point to cell biology
He was the person who discovered ‘CELL’ in 1665 with the help of primitive microscope.
The word Cell is derived from the Latin word cella which means small room and the word cellulae means
honey comb.
As he was observing a tiny piece of cork tissue under microscope, he said the small compartments
named as cells.
In his book Micrographi, give detailed about 60 various species.
He did not know much about the cell structure and functions.
He was unable to observe internal components.
He was a physicist, architect, scientist, astronomer.

within an elastic limit, stress and strain are proportional to each other.
Hooke discovered that Jupiter revolves around in its axis.
He had made the drawing of mars. So it helped other scientists to determine its rotation period.
He also made observation of a comets with the use of telescope.
