The Maori are the indigenous people of New Zealand, living on the islands in the South Pacific Ocean off the coast of Australia. While some Maori continue traditional cultural practices like ceremonial weapons and facial tattoos, others have adopted non-traditional, modern lifestyles, and as a whole the Maori people have struggled with issues like poverty that many conquered indigenous groups face.
