Containers and Utensils

Utensils can be divided
into 5 categories.

Made of gold & silver
Expensive utensils
Made of leather
Made of bone
Made of wood or pottery

Every container of utensil
made of pure or substance of
gold or silver plated is
not permissible.

Do not drink from a gold or silver
container and do not eat from plates
for they are for the disbelievers in
this world and for us the believers in
the Hereafter

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)

Note that the prohibition applies
to both men and women to the
generality of the text.

of Non-Muslims.

The ruling concerning utensils of
non-muslims is that they are
permissible for use as long as...

...one is not certain that they are
impure or non-halal.

Recommendation (Sunnah)
containers and utensils usage.

It is recommended (sunnah) to
cover the containers and
drinking utensils and to close
the mouth of waterskins.

Tie and close the mouths of the
water containers and mention the
name of Allah...


...Cover your containers, even if just
with a piece of wood, and mention
the name of Allah.
