The duty of the site safety manager during Construction or Demolition
 General inspections
 Safety netting inspections

 Scaffolds, structural ramps, runways and platform inspections
 Material handling and hoisting equipment inspections
General inspections
Daily As appropriate
Readiness of standpipe for FDNY At least one elevator or personal hoist in a
state of readiness is available for FDNY
access (a height greater than 75 feet)
The valves are in place at each floor l hoist requires a jump, verify that all
necessary permits are obtained, and
testing performed
Standpipe is capped
Hose connections are not obstructed.

Horizontal safety netting is maintained

Maintenance of site and adjacent area inspections
 SSM must ensure that the public areas are kept clear of ice, snow, oil, debris,
equipment, and materials throughout the day.
 Also, SSM must ensure Daily that All exposed, electrically charged, moving, or
other dangerous portions of machines and construction equipment are surrounded
by guards, shields, or barricades to keep the public away.
 Verify that there are no exposed hose lines, wire, rope, or other items that may
constitute a tripping hazard to the public.
 adjoining property is protected when the height of the building exceeds that of the
adjoining property.
 That equipment and tools are stored away from edges and openings while not in
use.
Housekeeping inspections
Daily need to be check by SSM
Floors and stairs are clean from excess debris
Tools and equipment not in use are kept away from edges or openings.
Roof of the sidewalk shed and the street are free of debris.
That sufficient containers for the storage of garbage and debris are provided
Containers are covered and secured when full.
Protection of sidewalks inspections
Check list for sidewalks for SSM
 PERMITS
 Approved drawings
 Designer and/or supplier has certified
 sidewalk sheds extend the entire perimeter of the building
 Building exceeds 100 feet in height, the sidewalk sheds extend 20 feet
 Sidewalks open & close for public use
Warning signs and lights inspections
 SSM have check daily that All hazardous or public-facing areas, as well as places
where work is done close to traffic, are properly marked with warning signs and
lighting.
 Also SSM take step When intermittent activities are conducted on or across areas
exposed to the public, or when other situations necessitate the use of flagmen or
flag women, the required precautions are taken to ensure the public's safety.
Scaffolds, structural ramps, runways and platform inspections
 SSM have to verify that, all structural ramps, scaffolds, runways, and platforms are
equipped with guardrails & netting where they present a risk to the public.
Material handling and hoisting equipment
inspections
 SSM have to check certificates of approval
 Verify that licenses of crane operators are available at the construction site.
 Verify that flagmen/women are present to stop pedestrian and/or vehicular traffic
during the following intermittent operations:
i) During all lifting and hoisting operations
ii) When trucks enter and exit the site
iii) When materials are being lifted over the sidewalk shed
iv) When dangerous operations
Additional Key Points FOR SSM
 The approved site safety plan is on site.
 SSM Manages THE DAILY TRANNING LOG AND TOOL BOX TALK.
 Street or sidewalk closure permits, which are necessary, can be obtained at the
location.
 Notice for installation or removal of a suspended scaffold.
 Pre-shift inspections for all scaffolds, cranes, derricks, hoisting machines.
 Verifying that workers have completed a course of OSHA at least 10 hours &
approved by department.
 Workers are given and using the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
 If something happens on site, it is the responsibility of SSM to contact DOB.
