The Nintendo Wii was released in November 2006 and replaced in November 2012. It featured unique motion controls using the Wii remote that allowed users to control games by simulating movements. Over its six year lifespan, the Wii sold over 101 million units and had over 1,600 games released for it, helping to define motion controls and pave the way for the Nintendo Switch.

• It featured a unique style of control that was pointer control using the wii
remote, this allowed users to simulate a mouse pointer with a controller. This
feature was classed as so good that it was banned from being used in certain
pvp tournaments and ruined the experience of certain games like Resident
Evil 4.
• Nintendo had never cared about the graphics on their consoles, the graphics
aren’t terrible by todays standards.
• Unique sounds recognised by most in their store and their home page.
• Pointer control and the balance board that tried to make a remote you would
controller by moving your feet on the board

rough estimate of $25,407,500,000 in sold units​
• The new introduced motion controls where players would have to use the
wiimote like a weapon or other things and mario games that also used
the wii sensor to add new features to the games.​

7. Legacy
• The console gave us Miis, a returning avatar like feature for future Nintendo
consoles, potentially even inspiring Xbox’s “avatar system” which came out
exactly 2 years after the Wiis American release.
• It also gave us a taste of motion controls and how fun they can be in certain
environments yet how strong they can be in a shooter environment.
• It is mainly being revived through emulation on the “dolphin emulator”, this
leads to most of the consoles games not being sold anymore and only being
available on a website like VimmsLair
• The wii had an impact as it was the first prototype of the Nintendo Switch’s future
gyro controls that are featured and used by 80% of the player base in Splatoon 2.
