• Unintentional
• Indirect, often stereotype-based
• Types- Gender, race, ethnicity, physical
appearance etc.
• Very common
• Most people have it and don’t realize it

Orchestras increased by 50% with blind auditions
Study of identical resumes, one with man’s name and other
with woman’s name, found that 70% of applicants with
man’s name vs. only 49% with female name were
considered a “worthy hire”
Name on resume that is “white sounding” = 50% more calls
for interview than same resume with “black sounding”
name
