Long Term Care
How many people in this room expect to need long-term care one day? It’s not surprising that few of us do, because it’s hard to face the fact that our health might decline. But statistics suggest that the risk is greater than we think. Approximately 70% of us--that’s 7 out of every 10 people here today--will need some type of long-term care services during our lifetimes at some point after we reach age 65. And though it's good news that people are living longer, a long life span increases the chance of developing serious health problems. In fact, according to the Alzheimer’s Association, one in nine people age 65 and older has Alzheimer’s disease, which often leads to the need for nursing home care. And while older people are more likely to need long-term care, younger people may need care too, as a result of a disabling accident or illness such as multiple sclerosis or Parkinson’s disease.
This isn’t meant to scare you, but rather to remind you that the need for long-term care can happen to anyone at any time. The need to be prepared is real, and something that you shouldn’t ignore.

I am writing to address issues that are related to health disparities as well as the legislation that can be implemented to help in dealing with the vice.
Overview
Health disparities refer to the differences that may arise in the health status of different groups of persons. Factors such as race, gender, social class, disability, and sexual orientation may contribute to health disparities. The issue of racial discrimination has been a major contributor of health disparities across the U.S., with 47% of individuals from the African American and Latina population complaining of poor medical care and treatment. The aged population has also been affected directly by the issue of health disparity, with most of them having to face the challenges of poor medical care. In the quest of dealing with the issue of health disparities, it is vital to employ the use of the health equity legislation act. The Health Equity and Accountability Act of 2014 was passed by the Congress to help in addressing the issues of health disparities across the U.S.
Intended Consequences of the Legislation
The implementation of the Health Equity and Accountability Act of 2014 will help in addressing the issue of health disparity across the U.S. First and foremost, the legislative act will call for the equal medical care and treatment to all individuals, irrespective of their gender, race, and social class. The piece of legislation will call for the medical practitioners to be on the frontline in providing the necessary treatments to these vulnerable groups (Braveman et al., 2011). Moreover, it will be a requirement for all the healthcare organizations across the U.S. to come up with healthcare disparities programs that will aim at educating the medical practitioners in providing equal treatments to all individuals. Specific medical attention will be provided to the elderly, to help them lead normal lives.
Interpretation of the Major Tenets of Legislation
As for the health practitioners, it will be a requirement for them to ensure that they provide equal medical care to all the patients. Moreover, the health equality act will help the health practitioners come up with suitable decisions on how to handle all patients equally without discriminating against them (Laurencin, 2014). As for the consumers of the healthcare services, by having an idea of the legislation, they will be able to fight for their rights. In the event of health disparities, they will have an idea of how to handle the issue, as well as the personnel that they will be able to approach and address their issues.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to address issues that are related to health disparities as well as the legislation that can be implemented to help in dealing with the vice.
Overview
Health disparities refer to the differences that may arise in the health status of different groups of persons. Factors such as race, gender, social class, disability, and sexual orientation may contribute to health disparities. The issue of racial discrimination has been a major contributor of health disparities across the U.S., with 47% of individuals from the African American and Latina population complaining of poor medical care and treatment. The aged population has also been affected directly by the issue of health disparity, with most of them having to face the challenges of poor medical care. In the quest of dealing with the issue of health disparities, it is vital to employ the use of the health equity legislation act. The Health Equity and Accountability Act of 2014 was passed by the Congress to help in addressing the issues of health disparities across the U.S.
Intended Consequences of the Legislation
The implementation of the Health Equity and Accountability Act of 2014 will help in addressing the issue of health disparity across the U.S. First and foremost, the legislative act will call for the equal medical care and treatment to all individuals, irrespective of their gender, race, and social class. The piece of legislation will call for the medical practitioners to be on the frontline in providing the necessary treatments to these vulnerable groups (Braveman et al., 2011). Moreover, it will be a requirement for all the healthcare organizations across the U.S. to come up with healthcare disparities programs that will aim at educating the medical practitioners in providing equal treatments to all individuals. Specific medical attention will be provided to the elderly, to help them lead normal lives.
Interpretation of the Major Tenets of Legislation
As for the health practitioners, it will be a requirement for them to ensure that they provide equal medical care to all the patients. Moreover, the health equality act will help the health practitioners come up with suitable decisions on how to handle all patients equally without discriminating against them (Laurencin, 2014). As for the consumers of the healthcare services, by having an idea of the legislation, they will be able to fight for their rights. In the event of health disparities, they will have an idea of how to handle the issue, as well as the personnel that they will be able to approach and address their issues.

Foreword
The California Endowment places a strong emphasis on policy change activities,
including advocacy, with the belief that policy change is necessary to make meaningful
and lasting improvement in the health of Californians. Although no single policy or
system change will achieve the ultimate goal of a healthier California, The Endowment
firmly believes that everyone has a role to play and that all organizations can participate
in the advocacy process.
To that end, The Endowment’s Public Policy Department and the Center for Healthy
Communities have developed Advocating for Change as part of the Center’s Health
ExChange Academy. Designed to provide you with the fundamentals of advocacy and
the tools to put that knowledge into practice, Advocating for Change is the first in a
series of trainings to help staff at nonprofit organizations become more effective leaders
in improving community health.
Special thanks are due to Harry Snyder, an advocate well-known for his prior work at
Consumers Union, for writing this manual. The training program itself was developed
by Harry and the team at the National Community Development Institute: Omowale
Satterwhite, Shiree Teng and Diana Lee.

A doctor patient relationship is the basis of medical practice and thus of medical ethics. Therefore, several patients are in general not able or reluctant to make choices about their healthcare, therefore, patient autonomy is at times extremely challenging. Equally challenging are additional conditions of the relationship, for instances the doctor’s obligation to keep patient confidentiality in a time of computerized medical records and managed care, and the duty to maintain life in the face of petitions to hurry, and or speed up death. This belief can be instrumental to the healing pathway (Pate, 1995). Having such individuals who may or may not forsake their right to value and equal care, or are doctors expected to formulate more, maybe even noble, attempts to develop and keep good relationships with them? Those specific patients, doctors should balance their liabilities for his or her-own safety and protection and the same for their employees with their responsibility to increase the safety of the patients. They ought to try to find methods to honor both responsibilities (Wright & Rowitz, 2000). If not possible, they must try to develop another plan for the treatment of the patients. Additional disputes to the standards of dignity and equal care for each patient evolves in the treatment of infectious patients. In this case, there should be very big cohesion relationship between the doctors and the potential patient within the hospitals and nursing homes.
Doctors and nurses as potential leaders in public health promotion program of choice
I have chosen doctors and the nurses as the potential leaders in y health program following the fact that a healthcare acquired infection (HAI) is one that a patient occurs while receiving treatment in a healthcare facility. In this promotion nursing care program, doctors in cooperation with the nurses will be the leaders of focus. The institution or the organization focused can be a hospital, nursing home, surgery center, dialysis clinic or free clinic. It is estimated that on average one in twenty hospitalized patients will contract and HAI. These infections are a major public health concern not only because they cost billions of dollars to treat, but because they can be contracted from routine care, surgical procedures, catheters or ventilators and from overusing antibiotics (Israel, Schulz, Parker, & Becker, 1998). The United States currently has many healthcare issues that it is facing. These issues
are the main reason why a large number of people in the country face a lot of health
problems. The country is currently spending the largest amount of money on healthcare
compared to other countries. Due to this reason, many people have provided proposals for
policies that can be utilized to solve these health issues and help individuals in the country
attain a healthcare improvement. An example of the many issues that the country is facing
among others includes shortage of doctors, substance abuse, tobacco, overweight, and
obesity. Access to healthcare is a major issue that many individuals in the United States feel
the need to ensure its existence.
Many people in the United States are interested in the issue of access to healthcare.
Without good access, people do not have the ability to ensure that they will remain healthy.
Access to health care is thus a significantly important aspect that people are highly concerned
with. The patient protection and the affordable care act is one of the main policy that has
attempted to address this issue. Through this act, many individuals have managed to attain

In the interview with Dr. Houskova, she mentioned the supporting the AB 890 act which will allow Nurse practitioners to practice independently without the supervision of a physician (Bill Text - AB-890 Nurse Practitioners: Scope of Practice: Practice without Standardized Procedures., 2019). As the provider grab continues to grow in California because of the shortage of primary care physicians, leaving access to health care difficult. According to the California Health Workforce Commission, after one year of analyzing health care delivery, recommendations were made and one included the full practice authority for NP’s as primary care providers (Expanding the Role of Nurse Practitioners, 2021). In hopes of joining the other 28 states what already changed their legislation allowing nurse practitioners to practice as primary care providers.

Congressman, as a family nurse practitioner and a DMP practice scholar, my journey to our meeting began with exploring how I could secure additional funding for my rural clinic. Along the way, I discovered the impact social detriments of health have on the quality of life for people in our community.
The socioeconomic issues facing people who live in your district are significant and are reflected in the number of homeless people. I met with a homeless woman at the tent camp just down the road. Her story is tragic, but what is more important is the circumstances that left her homeless were mostly out of her control.
She was unable to find a job with a livable wage. One of the major factors in her homelessness was transportation. The community has limited bus routes and people living in the more rural areas have no access to transportation. They cannot get to the grocery store, the health department and in many cases have a hard time getting to my clinic.
While I want to solve all these problems with you, my focus today is addressing the issues with House Bill 255. Yes, I know we have some challenges in my district, and I am committed to resolving these issues. However, as you know, Dr. Riley, it takes time, money and the will of the people to make swift change to improve the quality of life within this district.
After reading your brief yesterday, I made a call to the mayor, and we talked about adding two bus routes to the service to more rural parts of the district. This has been on the agenda for the district for many months, and the mayor said she was looking at funding for the additional routes.
It is my understanding from the mayor that one additional route is funded, and will provide transportation to the rural parts of the district. Another route is proposed, but funding is the primary concern at this point. Congressman, this one route alone will provide service to many people who otherwise would not have transportation.
Thank you for your advocacy on this issue and I look forward to seeing the second round added soon. If we could turn our attention now to House Bill 255, I wanna thank you for authoring such a comprehensive bill and providing additional funding to rural clinics through the expansion of this Medicaid program.

While attention to eating disorders has increased in recent years, the illness remains one of the most common, dangerous and least understood in the United States. The numbers are truly staggering: An estimated 25 million Americans, many of them adolescents, suffer from eating disorders. Ninety percent of them are women between the ages of 12 and 25, though eating disorders do not discriminate by gender, age or ethnic background. More than one-half of teenage girls and nearly one-third of teenage boys use such unhealthy weight control behaviors as skipping meals, fasting, vomiting, and taking laxatives.

Overall life span (LS) was 1671.7±1721.6 days and cumulative 5YS reached 62.4%, 10 years – 50.4%, 20 years – 44.6%. 94 LCP lived more than 5 years without cancer (LS=2958.6±1723.6 days), 22 – more than 10 years (LS=5571±1841.8 days). 67 LCP died because of LC (LS=471.9±344 days). AT significantly improved 5YS (68% vs. 53.7%) (P=0.028 by log-rank test). Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: N0-N12, T3-4, blood cell circuit, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells-CC and blood cells subpopulations), LC cell dynamics, recalcification time, heparin tolerance, prothrombin index, protein, AT, procedure type (P=0.000-0.031). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and N0-12 (rank=1), thrombocytes/CC (rank=2), segmented neutrophils/CC (3), eosinophils/CC (4), erythrocytes/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), stick neutrophils/CC (8), leucocytes/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (error=0.000; area under ROC curve=1.0).

Em consonância com os ODS – Objetivos do Desenvolvimento Sustentável e a Estratégia Global para a Saúde das Mulheres, Crianças e Adolescentes, e aplicando uma abordagem baseada nos direitos humanos, os esforços de cuidados pós-natais devem expandir-se para além da cobertura e da simples sobrevivência, de modo a incluir cuidados de qualidade.
Estas diretrizes visam melhorar a qualidade dos cuidados pós-natais essenciais e de rotina prestados às mulheres e aos recém-nascidos, com o objetivo final de melhorar a saúde e o bem-estar materno e neonatal.
Uma “experiência pós-natal positiva” é um resultado importante para todas as mulheres que dão à luz e para os seus recém-nascidos, estabelecendo as bases para a melhoria da saúde e do bem-estar a curto e longo prazo. Uma experiência pós-natal positiva é definida como aquela em que as mulheres, pessoas que gestam, os recém-nascidos, os casais, os pais, os cuidadores e as famílias recebem informação consistente, garantia e apoio de profissionais de saúde motivados; e onde um sistema de saúde flexível e com recursos reconheça as necessidades das mulheres e dos bebês e respeite o seu contexto cultural.
Estas diretrizes consolidadas apresentam algumas recomendações novas e já bem fundamentadas sobre cuidados pós-natais de rotina para mulheres e neonatos que recebem cuidados no pós-parto em unidades de saúde ou na comunidade, independentemente dos recursos disponíveis.
É fornecido um conjunto abrangente de recomendações para cuidados durante o período puerperal, com ênfase nos cuidados essenciais que todas as mulheres e recém-nascidos devem receber, e com a devida atenção à qualidade dos cuidados; isto é, a entrega e a experiência do cuidado recebido. - 3. In the interest of the recent bipartisan support of the Anna Westin Act of 2015, Congressman David E. Price (NC-04) visited Veritas Collaborative on July 20, 2015, in Durham, North Carolina.
- 4. Representative Price toured the state-of-the-art inpatient eating disorder hospital.
- 5. Congressman David Price met with a number of employees who are constituents of his district, and announced his co-sponsorship of "Anna’s Law."
- 6. Congressman David Price spoke with Chase Bannister, Founder, Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy & Clinical Integrity Officer of Veritas Collaborative.
- 7. Congressman Price hosted a town hall meeting for members of the Veritas staff to discuss their experiences in treating this underserved population.
- 8. Congressman David E. Price (NC-04) shared his thoughts on eating disorders, eating disorder treatments, and the Anna Westin Act of 2015.
- 9. The Anna Westin Act of 2015 proposes that those with eating disorders receive equal treatment as those with other health issues to help the millions of people suffering from eating disorders throughout the United States. .
- 10. The Anna Westin Act of 2015 is just one of several proposed legislations advocating for better access to care for those suffering from eating disorders. .
- 11. Veritas discussed with Congressman Price how “Anna’s Law” would help reduce barriers to treatment and ensure health professionals, schools, and the public receive training to identify eating disorders and help people access eating disorders care. .
- 12. While at Veritas Collaborative, Congressman David Price stated that, “For far too long, people who suffer from eating disorders have been unable to access the treatment they need for long-term recovery.” .
- 13. Representative Price went on to say, “I am very pleased to see firsthand the effective treatment options offered at Veritas Collaborative.” .
- 14. Congressman David E. Price continued with, “The federal government should be a strong partner in the effort to combat eating disorders, and I have cosponsored a bill that would improve treatment and coverage options for those who courageously seek help.” .
- 15. Members of the Veritas Collaborative team enjoyed indulging the thoughts of Congressman David Price on the Anna Westin Act of 2015.
- 16. Veritas Collaborative staff listened carefully to Congressman Price sharing his perspectives on treating eating disorders.
- 17. Congressman Price discussed with Veritas Collaborative how the enactment of the new bill would improve care for eating disorders by providing training for physicians and health professionals.
- 18. The enactment would also provide training for school personnel, and others meaningfully involved in the care of persons with eating disorders as well as improving treatment coverage.
- 19. The act clarifies the Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity Act of 2008 and uses existing federal funds to provide the training.
- 20. Members of the Veritas Collaborative staff also shared their own views, experiences, and ideas to treating eating disorders.
- 21. Additionally, as a member of the Eating Disorder Coalition and Residential Eating Disorders Consortium, Veritas is actively advocating for an improved standard of care.
- 22. As a local treatment facility and active participant in the fight for equal treatment, Veritas Collaborative provides evidence based, best-practice care at their warm and inviting facility.
