The mayor welcomed attendees to the 2019 Asia-Pacific Internet Operation Technology Conference in Daejeon, South Korea. He thanked the conference organizers and expressed Korea's leadership in ICT, having launched the world's first 5G mobile network. The mayor highlighted Daejeon's role as a leading ICT hub in Korea and its efforts to become a global center of technology innovation driving the fourth industrial revolution. He concluded by thanking attendees and wishing them a productive and enjoyable time at the conference.

2. Dear ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests,
Good afternoon, I am HER Taejeong, Mayor of Daejeon
Metropolitan City.
I sincerely welcome you to "The 2019 Asia-Pacific Internet
Operation Technology Conference” in Daejeon.

3. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to
Ms. Choi Hee-yoon, President of KISTI,
Mr. Philip Smith, Chair of APRICOT,
Mr. Andrew Sullivan, Chair of ISOC,
and Mr. Paul Wilson, Chair of APNIC
and the ICT experts from 50 different countries
around the world.

4. “The Asia-Pacific Internet Operation Technology
Conference” was once held in Seoul in 2000, and it has
come back to Korea in 19 years.
In the meantime, Korea has experienced remarkable
growth in ICT field and has got the best ICT technology
and network infrastructure in the world.

5. Based on this, in February of last year, Korea launched
the world's first 5G service at PyeongChang Winter
Olympic Games.
In December, Korea launched 5G radio wave. And, in
March this year, 5G service through smartphone will be
launched for the first time in the world.

6. I am pleased to share our country's ICT technology
with the ICT experts in Asia and the Pacific,
and hope that the attendees have a fruitful time of
knowledge exchange and further strengthen the
multinational cooperation during the conference.

7. Daejeon is the leading ICT hub in Korea.
Since the establishment of the “Daedeok Science Town” in
the early 1970s, Daejeon has been leading the development
of Korea's science and technology as a center of science
and technology with the largest number of national
research institutes in Korea, including KISTI and other 45
research institutes.

8. Based on these intellectual property infrastructures,
we are making great efforts to become a mecca of global
ICT technology leading to the fourth industrial revolution
characterized
by hyper-connectivity, super-intelligence, and convergence
of science and technology.

9. I am pleased to be able to promote Daejeon through this
conference, and I kindly ask for your continued interest
