Conflict:
(Conflict or tension is usually the heart of the novel and is related to the main character.
How would you describe the main conflict? Is it internal where the character suffers
inwardly? Is it external caused by the surroundings or environment the main character
finds himself/herself in, or caused by the people around him?)
The little prince in the story The Little Prince is searching. He doesn't completely
understand what he is searching for, so he is open to learning from everyone and
everything he encounters. I think this novel is considered as internal because the
character suffers inwardly. Also, the main problem in the story is his search for
understanding of relationships, of the reasons why people act as they do, of how to
learn to love and to trust and to care for the important parts of our lives. As he has brief
encounters with many different minor characters through the book, he sees different
aspects of life and makes observations about how to relate and react to those
situations. In that learning process, the little prince gains the knowledge he was
seeking. As the fox confirms to him at the end of the story, "It is only with the heart that
one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye." The solution is love.
Climax:
(What is the highest point of interest or emotion in the story?)
The climax of the plot occurs when the Little Prince decides to return to his planet and care for his
special flower. He has learned from the fox that the important things in life cannot be seen with the
eye, only felt with the heart. This lesson eventually makes the Little Prince realize that the flower
from which he has fled is really very special. After meeting the narrator and explaining all that he has
learned since he left his planet, the Prince accepts that he really loves the flower because she is his
responsibility, and he has invested time and trouble in her survival. As a result, he decides that he
must go back to his star to take care of his special rose.
Resolution or Denouement:
(What is the conclusion of the story’s plot after the climax?)
The story ends in comedy. The Little Prince finds the answers to his questions about what is
important in life. When he realizes his love for the flower, he accepts that he must return to his star
to care for the rose. He makes arrangements with the poisonous snake to bite him, which will insure
his safe passage back home. Before he departs, the Little Prince makes a profound impression on
the narrator.
Explain why the title was chosen for the story:
The Little Prince is about the main character, the little prince, who goes on adventures
and meets the narrator. What else could this book be called, really? None of the other
characters are important enough to deserve the whole title. Even the narrator doesn’t
have a name. The book exists so that the narrator can remember the prince. From that
perspective, it simply has to be named after the prince. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be a very
good memorial.
Symbolisms:
(Are there objects or elements that represent much deeper concepts? Identify all
symbolisms in the novel and discuss their relevance to the story.)
1. The Flowers
It blossoms from tiny sprouts which grow from tiny seeds under the earth.
Throughout the life of a flower, it changes and grows and blossoms. The flower in
the story grows like this too, except she grows to becoming more mature and
caring. At the beginning she nags the little prince all the time and orders him to
do stuff for her. She's seems very conceited, but when the little Prince leaves,
she feels very sad and thinks that it is her fault that the little Prince is leaving.
The flower to the Prince, is the treasure and the "essential" that one can only see
with the heart. He finally learns to appreciate her because he has lost her. The
flower can be compared to mothers. Mothers nag their children all the time to
pick their clothes, make the bed, take the trash out, and perform different duties.
However, their intentions are good. They care deeply for their children and keep
a roof over their children's heads even though they might seem unfair or
annoying at times. It is when we lose our moms, that we will realize their
importance in our lives.
2. Water
The water in the well symbolizes spiritual fear of dying. It is also a symbol of life.
3. Desert
The novel's setting is in the Sahara Desert. This desert is barren, and is ready to
be transformed. Therefore, the desert represents the narrators mind, because it
was made barren by grown-up ideas. Like the Sahara Desert, the narrator's mind
is transformed, by the little Prince. This landscape was sad for the protagonist.
4. Stars
Since the narrator is a pilot, he looks onto earth for navigation purposes. After the
Pilot meets the little Prince, he learns that the prince lives among them. So, the
stars also represent friendship. The stars in The Little Prince also symbolize the
mystery of the universe, and at the end, the loneliness of the narrator’s life. In his
final drawing, he draws one lone star shining down onto the desert.
Explain the ending of the novel:
The ending of The Little Prince is super sad. There’s no two ways about that. The prince
has left the Earth—it looked like he died when the snake bit him, but his body is
nowhere to be found. The narrator’s made it out of the desert, but that seems like small
potatoes compared to wondering what happened to the prince. And the sheep. And the
flower. The narrator’s got questions that can’t ever be answered. Whether the sheep
has eaten the flower or the flower is safe is a “great mystery”. This mystery, he says
“alters everything”
But the ending also holds possibility for hope, because we don’t know exactly what
happened. Perhaps (we hope!) the prince made it safely home to his flower. Perhaps he
remembers to keep the sheep away from his flower. Perhaps all is well up there in
Asteroid B-612.
Explain the moral of the novel:
The moral is that we cannot truly understand unless we search for meaning ourselves.
Someone else can tell us about it, but we need to experience it in order to know what it
means. The narrator says that what makes the water from the well so good is all the
hard work that went into finding the well with water. Relationships, objects, and
experiences are rewarding only when a person puts his/her own time and effort into it.

  • 1. Conflict: (Conflict or tension is usually the heart of the novel and is related to the main character. How would you describe the main conflict? The little prince in the story The Little Prince is searching. He doesn't completely understand what he is searching for, so he is open to learning from everyone and everything he encounters. I think this novel is considered as internal because the character suffers inwardly. Also, the main problem in the story is his search for understanding of relationships, of the reasons why people act as they do, of how to learn to love and to trust and to care for the important parts of our lives. As he has brief encounters with many different minor characters through the book, he sees different aspects of life and makes observations about how to relate and react to those situations. He has learned from the fox that the important things in life cannot be seen with the eye, only felt with the heart. This lesson eventually makes the Little Prince realize that the flower from which he has fled is really very special. After meeting the narrator and explaining all that he has learned since he left his planet, the Prince accepts that he really loves the flower because she is his responsibility, and he has invested time and trouble in her survival. As a result, he decides that he must go back to his star to take care of his special rose. Resolution or Denouement: (What is the conclusion of the story’s plot after the climax?) The story ends in comedy. The Little Prince finds the answers to his questions about what is important in life. When he realizes his love for the flower, he accepts that he must return to his star to care for the rose. He makes arrangements with the poisonous snake to bite him, which will insure his safe passage back home. Before he departs, the Little Prince makes a profound impression on the narrator.

Desert The novel's setting is in the Sahara Desert. This desert is barren, and is ready to be transformed. Therefore, the desert represents the narrators mind, because it was made barren by grown-up ideas. Like the Sahara Desert, the narrator's mind is transformed, by the little Prince. This landscape was sad for the protagonist. 4. Stars
  • 3. Since the narrator is a pilot, he looks onto earth for navigation purposes. After the Pilot meets the little Prince, he learns that the prince lives among them. So, the stars also represent friendship. The stars in The Little Prince also symbolize the mystery of the universe, and at the end, the loneliness of the narrator’s life. In his final drawing, he draws one lone star shining down onto the desert. Explain the ending of the novel: The ending of The Little Prince is super sad. There’s no two ways about that. The prince has left the Earth—it looked like he died when the snake bit him, but his body is nowhere to be found. The narrator’s made it out of the desert, but that seems like small potatoes compared to wondering what happened to the prince. And the sheep. And the flower. The narrator’s got questions that can’t ever be answered. Whether the sheep has eaten the flower or the flower is safe is a “great mystery”. This mystery, he says “alters everything” But the ending also holds possibility for hope, because we don’t know exactly what happened. Perhaps (we hope!) the prince made it safely home to his flower. Perhaps he remembers to keep the sheep away from his flower. Perhaps all is well up there in Asteroid B-612. Explain the moral of the novel: The moral is that we cannot truly understand unless we search for meaning ourselves. Someone else can tell us about it, but we need to experience it in order to know what it means. The narrator says that what makes the water from the well so good is all the hard work that went into finding the well with water. Relationships, objects, and experiences are rewarding only when a person puts his/her own time and effort into it.
