HR, IT and Facilities all need to come together and answer these questions:
Is your current office setup – including meeting rooms and desk
layout – optimized for a safe yet flexible employee experience?
Do employees have a
choice of desk locations?
Is your workspace primed

Can they book desks
and meeting rooms on
a mobile app?

2. Align benefits with
employees to boost talent
retention and acquisition.
There are lots of ways to reward employees or give them benefits in order to
make them feel more valued, such as employee referral bonuses, merit
increases and spot bonuses. But if these efforts feel more “transactional” to
employees than showing the right amount of empathy or change, then they are
likely to fall flat.
Employees want to see meaningful action from their employers to give them
support that’s relevant to the lives they live. For example, McKinsey’s research has
found that 45% of employees cited taking care of family as an influence in their
decision to leave their jobs.4 Providing benefits and help with childcare, nursing
services or other similar means of support will make a major difference, and help
you express the kind of empathy which will resonate with the workforce.

4. Foster an employee
experienced primed for
”psychological safety”
The term “psychological safety” is used by Kelly Greenwood and Julia Anas of
Harvard Business Review to express what it means to create a 360-degree
employee experience.6 Supporting the mental health of employees is a crucial
part of it. Managers need to be trained to be able to see the signs of mental
health issues and be able to have and handle difficult conversations with
empathy and non-judgment. Leaders and managers must listen, and they need
to be trained on what to listen for explicitly.
They need to have and show compassion, display kindness, and support, and allow
for vulnerability and honesty from employees. Care doesn’t have to be intrusive, and
not every employee will want or need the same degree of care. But empathy and
kindness are today’s table stakes.

  • 8. 8 To work out exactly what a flexible workplace should look like, the C-suite, HR, IT and Facilities all need to come together and answer these questions: Is your current office setup – including meeting rooms and desk layout – optimized for a safe yet flexible employee experience? Do employees have a choice of desk locations? Is your workspace primed for collaboration? Can they book desks and meeting rooms on a mobile app? There are lots of ways to reward employees or give them benefits in order to make them feel more valued, such as employee referral bonuses, merit increases and spot bonuses. But if these efforts feel more “transactional” to employees than showing the right amount of empathy or change, then they are likely to fall flat. Employees want to see meaningful action from their employers to give them support that’s relevant to the lives they live. For example, McKinsey’s research has found that 45% of employees cited taking care of family as an influence in their decision to leave their jobs.4 Providing benefits and help with childcare, nursing services or other similar means of support will make a major difference, and help you express the kind of empathy which will resonate with the workforce. #CondecoInsights Copyright © 2021 Condeco.

Foster an employee experienced primed for ”psychological safety” The term “psychological safety” is used by Kelly Greenwood and Julia Anas of Harvard Business Review to express what it means to create a 360-degree employee experience.6 Supporting the mental health of employees is a crucial part of it. Managers need to be trained to be able to see the signs of mental health issues and be able to have and handle difficult conversations with empathy and non-judgment. Leaders and managers must listen, and they need to be trained on what to listen for explicitly. They need to have and show compassion, display kindness, and support, and allow for vulnerability and honesty from employees.
