My idea is that there's tremendous value for software innovation in applying the patterns of concept cars from the auto industry to software. At the Internet Retailing Expo 2017, I gave a presentation about omnichannel experiences. Across the Magnolia customers who are the most serious about omnichannel, there is a strong pattern of letting the experience, the story and business goals drive the projects—putting technology decisions in the facilitating role. Using the new Pathé Suisse customer journey as example, we dived into how omnichannel gets practical.

Fossasia 2015—COPE CMS

"COPE" means to Create Once, Publish Everywhere. The concept often accredited to the National Public Radio is having profound impact on organizations' ability to publish content in better ways. Yet, the methodology has only reached few clients worldwide. Many still struggle with the basic task of keeping content in sync across different channels and platforms.
Behind the practical advantages of COPE lies a bigger story. Although the concept has been around since the dawn of digital content, the world is only just awakening to what it truly means. Completely decoupling content and presentation is still a fundamental paradigm shift that we have only seen the beginning of.
Adding to the complexity of making COPE setups work well comes the human factor. Mentally grasping that a piece of content will go out to many and unknown output channels is hard for the typical, infrequent CMS editor. We have all yet to design great user interface patterns that help editors understand where content goes and realize what that means for the content production process.
The product strategist of the open source CMS project called Neos will provide insights into both the conceptual side to COPE—and talk about what's needed for CMS editors to work in a software environment where they don't know the exact output channels for their content.

UX Romandie: Designing a CMS for the future
Invited by the local @IxDA group UX Romandie in Lausanne to talk about how we applied urban planning principles to the UX planning for the TYPO3 Neos CMS.
It was also a talk about how to apply framework-thinking to any kind of User Experience project to overcome death-by-wireframes. When you're able to architect activity compartmentalization, you free up time as a UX'er.
In addition, my goal for this talk was to explain how we bridged quite abstract UX concepts to actual implementation in practise on an enterprise-level, complex piece of software.

The Heartbeat of TYPO3
For some time it's been clear that TYPO3 is a difficult thing to communicate about.
Community strength, outbound marketing, developer motivation and internal communication all need to be bound together.
The brand book project aims to produce a briefing document for everyone communicating about TYPO3 - to describe how we'd like to look and think - and how it should be felt like to interact with TYPO3 on any level.
In essense the brand book is about talking with one voice - and hopefully also making it a lot easier to write texts, choose images and explain what we're all about.
The presentation will present the process of making the Brand book and look into the results.

Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data Analysis
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.
