A compound word is made by combining two separate words to create a new word with its own meaning. For example, "moonlight" is made up of "moon" and "light", and together they mean the light of the moon. Other examples provided are "sunflower", "baseball", "seahorse", and "popcorn". Students are asked to identify the individual words that make up sample compound words and to think of compound words they use themselves.
