This document discusses compact DC switch gear, specifically a new gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) technology developed by Siemens for high-voltage direct current applications. The compact DC GIS uses up to 95% less space than traditional air-insulated DC switchgear, allowing converter stations to be built 95% smaller. It also offers advantages such as reduced costs for offshore installations, flexibility due to its modular design, reliability, and low maintenance requirements. The compact DC GIS technology could be applied between converter transformers and valves in converter stations or DC switchyards.
