Community Reflection
It would be an understatement to say that I have been blessed to grow up in a neighborhood where I
knew nothing bad would happen to me. It would be an understatement to say that I can go to bed
knowing all the doors in the house are locked and my house is secure. It would be not be false to say
that these things are given to me each day, but it would be an understatement to say I am thankful
for each thing. An error is falling down your stairs because you did not turn a light on, but a mistake
would be taking any of this security for granted. I know these things not because of what I have
achieved in my life, but a result of my fathers job. He stands as the fire captain in Davenport, Iowa.
Listening to some of the horror stories from his job, has widened my perspective on not only life,
but in the small minor details surrounding everything. I can say I am more grateful for being able to
have the understanding of safety, that if ever in a bad situation, I would step in to take risks and
protect those around me. In today's society, crime is such a common thing and often occurs within
small communities. I remember reading and learning about history and how communities would
always be there to help one another. But today, community is such an overused word, and does not
describe what one is at all. The foundation of a community revolves around the people who risk

A Small Community : My Community In A Small Town Community
Small Town Communities The neighborhood I live in is called Sugar Mill Pond; it's surrounded by
fields and has a huge pond in the middle of it; it's located in South Louisiana in Youngsville in
between two cities New Iberia and Lafayette. The town Youngsville and Sugar Mill Pond has
become one of the happiest places to live and work; both have become both my community because
of how small the town is so everyone knows everybody. It accommodates residents; it is surrounded
by multiple schools, retail shops, and businesses. Its location offers large amount of entertainment,
and a sense of caring in the air. My community comes together for any aspect that is needed, big or
small problems.
I would describe my neighborhood and town's atmosphere as a warm, bright aesthetically pleasing
place. I walk around the neighborhood and I see blue houses, white houses and, yellow houses; I
find the feeling as a beach atmosphere because, of the way the houses look and they all have open
windows that people have a beautiful view of the pond. As people walk around the pond in my
neighborhood people can easily talk to anyone and have a nice chat. I see kids playing with other
kids going back and forth to each other's houses; I see the parents interacting with the other kid's
parents forming that similarity or bond of the same dynamitic in the kids. This forms a community

The Utopian Sense of Community It is interesting the idea of a community, what is it stand for in the
general perspective? Does it mean a nation state, a specific group, or just a neighborhood for that
instance? There are many metrics make up a perfect community, from a utilitarian perspective to a

Community is like an extended family. We support each other in so many ways, whether it's

Though I do plan on graduating and moving to Austin, Texas, I still do love how helpful having a

These were beneficial to not just the community, but to anyone who was set to receive blood

I recently had the privilege of spending a week with a community called Furaha Community Center
that provides education, social services, and community action efforts within a slum community
called Haruma located in Nairobi, Kenya. The community of Haruma has roughly 500,000 people
living in the equivalent of 12 square blocks. The community suffers from poor sanitation, rampant
disease, and violence. Furaha Community Center serves the poorest and the sickest of the
community in efforts to provide food, education, micro loans, and social services. The community is
defined by some outsiders as poor, sick, dirty, lazy, disease ridden, gang infested, violent, sexually
deviant, uneducated (education is not free in Kenya so many families cannot afford to send their

Without time spent interacting and developing relationships with a group of individuals, we fail to
establish the trust that is necessary for growth to occur. Time helps develop the trust which is
required to challenge our thinking, motivate us to learn from others, and cultivate growth. A good

Community service is simply defined as non–paid work done by an individual, group, or
organization that benefits the community. While community service is commonly interchanged with
volunteerism, these two terms should not be interchanged with each other since the former could be

Kalix: Community Analysis
I never saw the term community as being important before this semester. After taking this course I
have realized that community is not as simple as the people living around you. Community is not
limited to location, it's also based on your lifestyle, religion, culture, education, and abilities.

community outreach because it will counter selfish tendencies, allow the youth to feel helpful, and
promote our church's presence in our community.
Let's face the fact, in general, the youth today are very selfish and narcissistic. It's all about having
the coolest clothes, the newest iPhone, or how many likes and retweets they can get. It sometimes
seems as if caring for others has completely disappeared from their thought process. They have very
much embraced the selfie lifestyle. Along with selfishness and narcissism, the youth also seem to
have become somewhat ungrateful. Although some may say that this is how typical teenagers act, I
think over the past few years it has become more and more prevalent. Despite that fact, is it not our
job as a youth group to try to work against the negative stereotypes and better ourselves. To
overcome and rise above the low expectations we typically have. This is why I believe creating and
promoting community outreach opportunities is so important.

Belonging To A Community Analysis
Belonging to a community is one of the greatest achievements an individual can look forward to. In
a scholar community, there is always a way to contribute and be involved within the community
itself.
To begin, one can give money as a form of contribution, however, giving time is best. I would
contribute most of my time to the scholar community by doing community service. Due to my

Throughout the Edgewater and Rogers Park community, my focus was on the physical health and
well being of the members of the community. The assets identified were doctor's offices, small
clinics and clinics that are a part of a larger chain. Each of these assets show the diversity in the
medical care offered in the Edgewater and Rogers Park community. For example, the assets that we
found were mostly privately owned and the clinics that are part of a larger chain such as the clinics
in Walgreens or CVS, were small and run by only a few people. There weren't any assets that were
part of a large medical institution such as Advocate or Nova health. There was only one hospital
which is Methodist Hospital which is one of the largest assets we found. This illustrates how in the
Edgewater and Rogers Park community, smaller and more convenient methods of receiving
healthcare is emphasized more than larger scale hospitals. The asset that I researched and
interviewed was Physicians Immediate Care on 6140 North Broadway in Edgewater Chicago. This
is a small clinic which is actually part of a larger chain of clinics that are located in Nebraska,
Indiana, and Illinois. This particular clinic was run by the Physician Assistant. I learned through the

There are many older detached single family homes with front and back yards. There is also a mix
of old apartments, as well as brand new apartments. There are lots of open spaces due to the number
of cemeteries in Colma. Some have lush green fields with trees and planted flowers, while one has a
lake with ducks. Most common place for the residents to hang out at is the shopping mall,

Many times it is the responsibility of the community to speak out about problems. Communities are
"the only effective power that can limit consumption, pollution, and the degradation of nature"

I have enjoyed taking this class this semester. Even though I hit a few hiccups along the way I
pushed through. I think it will help in my future endeavor in community development. Many people

of my learning experiences from this class with family and friends and have passed on a lot of

"Imagined communities," according to Anderson, are a form of speech communities created by the
mass–production of shared media. They are "imagined" because members will never meet all other
members face–to–face. The Morgan piece on speech communities begins by describing a music
video, which itself begins with two rappers speaking on the phone in different languages in different
countries. After a conversation, the two meet–up in person and begin the song. Morgan describes
this as a speech community formed around a shared style of music, with members of the community
belonging to various demographics. This would fit Anderson's model of imagined communities as

Project, a worldwide group that helps create an anonymous browser to hide identity details and
