This presentation examines the future of community-based education and services. Key considerations in anticipated changes include technology, lifelong learning, the needs of older learners, and cultural diversity. Possible funding scenarios involve more local grants and philanthropic donations focused on areas like hybrid learning. The influences of diversity and laws protecting individuals are also discussed to increase effectiveness. The conclusion states that community-based education will be important as lifelong learning increases among baby boomers and millennials.

panacea in producing fully-developed and well-rounded learners.
Traditional methods in teaching are no longer satisfactory. Educators, along
with parents, legislators, business leaders, and communities must
collaborate in order to instill high standards throughout the educational
spectrum.

Editor's Notes
Among key considerations when foreseeing the next 15 years in community-based education are the mapping of current and existing community based services along with community resources in order to properly assess the needs of future services. The decision-makers must also analyze assets and gather information about the concerns and priorities of the demography.
Technology will play a major role in the future of formal as well as community-based educational structures. This will make learning more accessible to students all over the world, in community colleges, in community service agencies and every aspect of training in organizations.
There are many factors that will influence lifelong learning in the future. Technology will make learning more accessible as we continue to excel in bringing the classroom to an individual’s home, to their workplace, to community centers, and private institutions. Technology will also play a major role in making lifelong learning more affordable and more beneficial to employers to invest in the continuing education of their employees. Community engagement and further collaboration with public and private schools will also play an integral part in lifelong learning.
Establishing more outreach programs that focus on post-secondary education and its importance to those who realize that the market is more competitive.
The government must work on initiatives the provide more support for teachers to increase the number and quality of teachers. Recruiting incentives should be put into place and incentives for performance should be implemented. The current administration is supporting the rethinking of traditional compensation and advancement models, promoting educator collaboration, and re-engaging communities in their schools (Tisdell, E., Taylor, E., & Forte, 2013).
The U.S. government is focusing on the following future goals:
Excellent teachers, with content knowledge, mastery of how to teach that content, and ability to motivate students in STEM subjects and careers; and
Improving undergraduate STEM teaching, setting a trajectory of producing one million additional STEM degrees over the next decade, as recently recommended by the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (White House, 2016)
The future funding of community-based education will rely on innovative ideas and planning as the older American population continues to grow and government funding continues to decrease. Communities, private agencies, philanthropist and good marketers will have to collaborate to come up with ways to fund the ever growing need for services. Agencies must continue to seek funding from local, state, federal and large corporations who want to invest in their employees’ continued education.
Diversity not only pertains to certain groups of individuals, it also includes race, ethnicity, age, religion, gender, disability, and sexual orientation.
A diverse learning environment helps members of all communities to challenge racial divides, stereotypes, discrimination and to develop complex critical thinking skills to create successful learning experiences. It also prepares the citizens of the community to become active citizens and leaders (Clay, 2012).
There are many laws, regulations, rules, and specialized guidance programs overseen by the United States Department of Education that govern all forms of education, including community-based learning (U.S. Department of Education, 2016).
