How to communicate professionally with their current employers and future
employers/employees.
Objective: (What do you want students to DO?)
Apply for jobs successfully and communicate well with their employers/fellow employees.
Students will describe and identify various effective communication processes, as well as learn
their current communication style.
Materials needed:
Projector connected to computer, students, paper, and pencils.
Outline of Activity:
The activity will consist of a powerpoint quiz that has questions that will help the students
understand how they communicate with others.
Content:
Start out with powerpoint to introduce topic. Watch a funny video to demonstrate why we need
to communicate effectively in the workplace. Talk about how the just step of this happens in the
job interviews. Ask what are some good things to do/ say during a job interview? Then do the
communication quiz. Discuss results of quiz and what skills are important for them to develop or
habits they should break. Talk about using their strengths and being aware of their weaknesses
so they can work more effectively.
Conclusion:Assess your communication style and decide what will be helpful to you in getting a
job. Try to work on different aspects of your communication to improve your communication.
Assessment: Ask what they learned and how they think this information will be useful to them.
