Blockchain: The Information Technology of the FutureMelanie Swan
The blockchain concept may be one of the most transformative ideas to impact the world since the Internet. Cryptocurrencies like bitcoin are merely one application of the blockchain concept. The blockchain is a public transaction ledger built in a decentralized network structure based on cryptographic principles so that any kind of trading, buying and selling of assets does not need to go through a centralized intermediary. Any kind of asset may be encoded into the blockchain and transacted, validated, or preserved in a much more efficient manner than at present including ideas, health data, financial assets, automobiles, and government documents. Venture Capitalists are calling the blockchain the next big investment wave.

Cryptocurrencies, Smart Contracts, and the Future of Economic InteractionSteve Omohundro
Contracts are society's programming language. Corporations are defined by contracts with investors, employees, customers, etc. Countries are defined by social contracts with citizens, representatives, corporations, etc. But today's contracts are confusing and expensive to create and enforce. They are written in bad programming languages and enforced by slow, complex, expensive, and unpredictable mechanisms.
In 1993, Nick Szabo proposed machine executable "Smart Contracts" which can be self-enforcing. The introduction of the "Bitcoin" cryptocurrency in 2008 provided the decentralized "blockchain" infrastructure for implementing these smart contracts. Bitcoin spawned over 500 alternative "altcoin" cryptocurrencies and they have generated both enormous interest and huge volatility.
New "Bitcoin 2.0" technologies like Ethereum are just about to be released. These will support powerful smart contracting mechanisms and may transform many areas of human interaction. We describe these new technologies and their connection to the "Internet of Things" and emerging AI systems.

1 Blockchain needs a native digital asset such as bitcoin;
2 Bitcoin is digital gold and can be as relevant as physical gold for the history of money, finance, and civilization
3 Unrealistic expectations arise from distributed ledger hype: no reference implementation has emerged yet
4 Instant settlement, cash on the ledger, shared data set, and improved automation are not easy to obtain
5 Time-stamping and anchoring are promising applications
6 Hardly disruptive, DLT might be evolutionary DB tech
William Mougayar- The Promise of a Centerless WorldOuiShare
Decentralization is already here, but it hasn't been evenly distributed. Based on his research, William Mougayar describes where we are in decentralization along three dimensions: Trust: Law, Governance, Industry Services (Financial, Government, Trade, Healthcare), Wealth: Economic Production, Flow of value, Transactions, and Information: Content, Privacy, Security. In this talk, Mougayar also defines the building blocks of decentralization: Peer-to-Peer Models, Trust-based Systems and Services, Autonomous Organizations, and Wealth Creation Methods in the New Crypto-Economy.

From Data Centers to Cloud Services, Inside the Backbone of a New Economy - C...Clipperton Finance
Clipperton Finance, a leading European corporate finance boutique serving the technology and media industries, has released a Research Paper covering the evolution and current trends of the Data Management market.
The essentially virtual “New Economy”, is in fact inherently tied to the very physical world of traditional Data Center and Telecom networks. In this era of online advancement, these physical networks are placed under unprecedented new demands through the proliferation of online rich media and cloud computing leading to an explosion in storage capacity and networking needs. In turn, the virtual data underworld is undergoing a true revolution.
One consequence is remarkable: as the cost and complexity of managing Data Centers increases exponentially, this function is more and more outsourced by the large companies that previously managed their own infrastructure on-site.
This paper focuses on this Outsourced Data Center market and demonstrates how this particular value chain is maturing and organising itself:
· Upstream: a new category of players have rapidly emerged – the Wholesalers.
· Downstream: Hosting offerings are experiencing significant commoditizing pressure and need to act fast.
· In the middle: the “Colocators” need to find there position in this newly organized ecosystem.
Today this value chain is dominated by large US companies, but significant European exceptions exist: OVH in France, Telecity in the UK, 1&1 in Germany.
The paper also features European players that we deem “ones to watch”.
If you have somehow missed the hype, the Internet of Things (IoT) is a fast-growing constellation of internet-connected sensors attached to a wide variety of 'things'. Sensors can take a multitude of possible measurements, Internet connections can be wired or wireless, while 'things' can literally be any object to which you can attach or embed a sensor. If you carry a smartphone, for example, you become a multi-sensor IoT 'thing', and many of your day-to-day activities can be tracked, analysed and acted upon.
Many of the conversations taking place around the IoT are incomplete without a mention of big data. Big data is characterised by “4 V’s”: volume, variety, velocity and veracity. That is, big data comes in large amounts (volume), is a mixture of structured and unstructured information (variety), arrives at (often real-time) speed (velocity) and can be different levels of uncertainty (veracity).
As organizations step into IoT, they must understand the symbiotic relationship between IoT and big data. Just like with any big-data play, merely collecting the data isn't enough. The data must be processed and analyzed to derive meaningful insights, and those insights must drive actionable steps that can improve the business.
What that means is that, without Big Data, the IoT can offer an enterprise little more than noise. But wait…! On the other hand, without IoT, the Big Data is little more than any other software lying idle. Actually you need two to Tango. That’s when you get the perfect marriage!

Provisioning IoT...Oh Baby You Know Meeee!ForgeRock
Identity provisioning has traditionally centered around user identities. However, as the digital transformation takes hold and more devices and things come online, there is a need to apply traditional provisioning practices to untraditional things. Identity administration in the modern age must be about managing the identity lifecycle of users’ devices and things and their relationships to one another. In this session, Victor and Stein will discuss different ways to address the complex identity challenges of IoT.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
