Commercial radio show Review
1. Commercial Radio Show Review
After listening to my radio show, I think we got the age range of 16-30 years old as the songs
we picked were appropriate to the target audience. We had a chatty tone during the show
which fitted the theme of the show, which included the celebrity news/gossip. Throughout
listening to the show, I picked up on a few things that could’ve been improved with a bit
more information.
During the intro, I think me and Shauna could’ve improved on this part of the show, adding
a bit more personality with more chat about the show and a better introduction to the song
being played first. I was happy with the transition of one song into the next. After the first
two songs, we introduced the next song which could’ve contained more information, this
was followed by a jingle into the song. This section could’ve been better if we didn’t
accidently play the wrong jingle.
During the 5th song, we had the song starting to play with Shauna introducing the song over
the music, this could’ve been improved by the song being a little quieter so we could hear
Shauna’s speech better. The transition from the 5th to the 6th song could’ve been better by
the 6th song being full volume to hear the singing over the outro of the 5 th song. Our chat
could’ve been easier to listen to if we had background music playing quietly. The
introduction to the 7th song was better as we talked about an upcoming tour.
The transition from the 7th song to the 8th was better that previous. At the end of the 8th
song, we could’ve left the song to fully finish as speaking over the song, we couldn’t be
heard, but the chat was better as we referenced to a similar clip of the song on YouTube of
Taylor Swift and Zac Efron. At this point of the show, I felt as if our personalities were
coming out more as we got more comfortable.
During the 9th song, due to the beat ending suddenly in the song, it made it easier for us to
play a jingle right after, for a smooth switch. I also like how we reminded the listener what
two songs were previously played as it eased the conversation. Further into the show, we
found it easier to talk more about songs and artists, such as the 10 th song, Kanye West’s gold
Digger, as we talked about him getting engaged to Kim Kardashian and their newly born
baby, joking about the name as well, saying “it’s like Alicia Keys calling her child keys”,
adding humour to the show.
I like the ending of gold digger into Shauna’s speech. As the ending beat slowly fades out as
Shauna speaks up. This part was the celebrity news section where we talked about the
latest in the celebrity world, we became much more confident in our speech. The news
consisted of things such as Tom Daley joking about releasing a chlorine smelling perfume
and the discussions of new album releases and artists teaming up for new songs. It was
much better introduction the 11th song as it was much casual. After this 11th song, the jingle
smoothly ran after the song into the 12th song. After the 12th song, we talked about Kesha
being in the media for her rehab admittance. The introduction to the 13th song was good as
the beginning beat started straight away leaving no dead air. The transition from this song
to the jingle could’ve been smoother as the jingle into the 14 th song aswell.
2. The outro could’ve been better as we didn’t leave much time for the outro or a jingle to be
played and it was casual, it felt rushed when we could’ve took our time.
