Social penetration theory proposes that as relationships develop, participants will disclose more private and personal information. The study examined differences in self-disclosure levels between upperclassmen and underclassmen on Facebook. While literature identifies benefits like increased trust and attraction from self-disclosure, risks also exist like lack of privacy or job threats. The results found no support for the hypothesis that upperclassmen would disclose more, and participants were not well-educated on risks. Limitations included small sample size and truthfulness of answers.
