This document provides an overview of the COMM101 Introduction to Speech Communication course. It outlines the course schedule, assignments, speech requirements, grading policies, and instructor contact information. Students are expected to familiarize themselves with the online course site, complete initial reading assignments, submit a topic selection, and deliver a 1-2 minute introductory speech in the first class. The course aims to help students improve their public speaking, listening, and presentation skills through three speech assignments of increasing length and complexity.

6. Attendance Policy
 2 absences are allowed
 3rd and 4th absence -50 points per each
 5 absences = drop or fail
 Everyone must take the final
 Online, open for 2 days

 1st Speech: Speech to Inform (no visual aids)
 Topic: Your Choice!
 5-6 min.
 2nd Speech: Speech to Inform with Visual Aid
 Topic: Your Choice!
 6-8 min.
 3rd Speech: Speech to Motivate Action
 Topic: Your Choice!
 8-10 min.
Students are required to deliver the minimum three
speeches to pass COMM101. Failure to do so will result
in the student not passing COMM101.

9. Late Assignments
 If time permits, students may make up speeches
but lose 25% from grade! (eg. “A” work earns a
“C”)
 Late assignments are not worthless…they
are simply worth less.
 Deducted 25% each calendar day after deadline
 More than four days late = 0% credit

10. Zero Tolerance for Cheating!
 Any unethical behavior, including any instance
of plagiarism, may result in failure of the course.
 You are welcome to use research
(assignments, etc.) you completed from
another class for your speeches.

 If a student would like to request accommodations, he
or she must contact the Center for Educational Access
so that a Letter of Accommodation may be sent to the
