Progression 8 – 3 v 3 Attacking Combinations
DESCRIPTION OF PRACTICE (TECHNIQUE / SKILL)
3 V 3 ----- Attacking Combination Play
Three players combine to make Combinations to complete a successful Attack against
Two Defenders – then Three
ORGANISATION
Players play in a 20 x 20 metre grid
With two 5 metre end zones
1. End Zone Player plays into one of
two attacking team mates
2. End Zone Player delays support
run until they make an assessment
3. Two Central players movement,
decisions and combinations will help
End Zone player to decide if, when,
how far to come in and support
4. Players try to use extra player to
combine to get into far end zone
5. Repeat from other zone
6. Change Server every time
KEY OBSERVATION
1. Starting Positions – see defenders, passer, team mate and see ball
2. Quality of First Pass – must give time and space for attackers to assess choices
3. Individual Technique - to Receive, to Control, to Move, to get good position
4. Decision Making – Create space for self, for others, dribble, pass
5. ATTACKING COMBINATION -- OVERLAPS, WALL PASS, TAKE
OVERS, CROSS OVERS
6. End Product -- Exploit Combinations – get into end zone
NOTES
May need to start 3 v 1 before 3 v 2. Only bring to 3 v 3 after a lot of work. Change area?
Work with passive and semi-passive defending to illustrate possible Attacking Combos
Help Players to make Decisions – as Individuals and as an Attacking Unit / Combo
Recognise that Individual Technique and tactical know how may need further practice
