College Magazine
Evaluation
STEPHANIE-JADE COATES
In what ways does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and conventions of
real media products?
 My college magazine uses an image where the people have a direct gaze into the
camera, which relates to magazines already published where this is frequently
used, in order to attract the reader, which was my objective.
 My contents use images of students, which would be expected from a college
magazine. My magazine has used many conventions of a magazine.
 In my music magazine I will aim to challenge the conventions of magazines more,
in order to gain more of a unique selling point.
Who would be the audience for your
media product?
 My audience would be City College students.
 It would not be suited to students from other colleges as a majority of the
magazine is based around events and information for those studying at college. It
would not be useful to other students.
 However, the typical reader for the magazine would be a 16-18 FE student rather
than an adult/HE student and would also be for those looking for more
information about the college, rather than just being for entertainment, although
this would be included.
How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
 My magazine has shown the students (particularly in the cover lines aimed at the
students) as wanting more knowledge about the college, showing them as
engaged with the college and learning, a positive showcasing for students.
 I feel that I could have showcased the social groups more clearly with more
images, which I shall include in my music magazine.
 I used a survey in order to find out what would attract people to read a college
magazine. Then, using the results I gained, I presented them and used the
information to ensure I included cover lines that would instantly attract students
to rad the magazine.
 To improve on this, I would ask more demographic questions in order to see
whether a hard copy of my magazine or a digital copy would be better, and also
other factors such as what free items the audience would want and how I could
advertise the magazine online on social media platforms.
How did you attract/address your
audience?
What have you learnt about technologies
from the process of constructing this
product?
 So far, I have developed my knowledge of photoshop, prezi, sribd and powerpoint
vastly, learning a lot more about their uses and features than before.
 However, for my music magazine, I would like to develop my knowledge of
InDesign further, as I used this to construct my college magazine as I have
previous knowledge of the software, but I would like to learn more about how I
can create unique factors to help my magazine sell.
 I would also like to use Issuu in my college magazine, to help present my
information in vaster ways.
