Don Juan Womanizer
Charming, attentive, interested, witty, flirtatious, these are all traits of a womanizer. The only
difference between a womanizer and a good man is a womanizer acts in this manner to get in
your pants, not your heart. Don Juan the Trickster of Seville, his name says it all. Don Juan is a
smooth talking, egotistical, cunning, never changing womanizer who thrives off of seducing
women. His love for romance and women and his lack of moral obligation make him a guy that
mothers warn their daughters about. His intoxicating wit and charm are irresistible to those who
catch his eye. Not only is he a womanizer but a true representation of the wages of sin. Don Juan
lives his life as if he is untouchable and true definition of a risk taker when it comes to sin. Don

For an example, in Don Hermanas Don Juan seduces a bride named Aminta. When he is
seducing Aminta he is mocking the innocence by saying by this white hand, a winter of pure
snow, take my hand (III, 290). He knows his hand (actions) aren t as pure as snow. Don Juan
portrays arrogance and high self esteem. He has an unrealistic self image in that he believes he
is superior to others, and feels it s his right to mock them. Don Juan feels he is superior because
of his noblemen upbringing. His father is a kingsmen and so is his uncle so he feels he can get
away with more than the average person. He has this air about him that he is better than everyone
else and proves it with mockery. Everything to Don Juan is a joke and he doesn t see why
everyone gets so upset about his tricks. He is clearly oblivious to punishment and he is reminded
continually of punishment to come by Catalinon, his father, and those women he tricks. Don Juan
lacks the insight as to the significance of his behavior for himself and other

Grossman Grow Up Not So Fast Analysis
The story Grow Up? Not So Fast was taken from Time magazine on January 16, 2005 from
writer, novelist, and journalist, Lev Grossman. Grossman was born in 1969 and grew up in
Lexington, MA, to English professors, which essentially inspired him to become the writer he is
today. From his childhood, adolescence, to his college years he read a lot and eventually gained
a career in writing, his passion. The first novel of his that was published was called, Warp in
1997, followed by Codex in 2004, which was an international sensation. Interspersed with his
career in writing successful novels, Grossman has been a book critic at Timemagazine, he has
analyzed many stories that have come across his desk and has written many stories that have
appeared in famous papers and magazines like the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and even
Time. The story, Grow Up? Not So Fast is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not So Fast he talks about a new generation called the Twister . They are young adults from about
the age of 18 to 25 who just will not grow up. Grossman goes on to argue in various ways to
appeal to the readers emotional, ethical, and logical senses throughout his story. Grossman
concentrates his story with what seems to be real life examples, people in today s society
considered twixters, which embody every ounce of this new identity. They do not own their own
house, they have had many jobs, they are not married nor do they have kids, and some even live
at home. He then goes on to argue why this new subculture came to be and what this new
subculture entails, filling each with personal examples from real life people and every now and
then comparing them to the past as to show how bad things are. However, there are a few
instances in Grossman s piece that he fails to hit the mark, and some instances where he blatantly
ignores an aspect of it just to prove his point, which is understandable but is easily seen

Cormac McCarthy s No Country for Old Men Essay
Ignorant souls will probably tell you that No Country for Old Men is a film of thirst for blood,
material wealth and a sheriff s investigation. Those that suggest this, however, are the same that
tune in weekly for their dose of Big Brother: The Evictions and are swayed by the words of their
local car salesman. The Coen brothers masterful 2005 adaption of Cormac McCarthy s No Country
for Old Menis a standout in recent cinema history, pushing aside this year s spit out of Transformers
from explosion junkie Michael Bay. Taking a different approach from their usual quirky, humour
films littered with three word profanities (cue: Burn after ReadingOsbourne Cox fans), the Coen s

In the relentlessly vindictive manner of McCarthy s novel, Bell delivers a welcomed voice of
sanity and justice to the human mind; his old school morals and philosophical reminiscences
offering a sanction in a world dominated by evil. But it is Vietnam Vet, Llewellyn Moss, who
levels best with the audience. Playing the wild card of the three, Brolin delivers a human centre to
the film; the man most identifiable with, even as the odds steepen against him.
As the minutes fly by, unnerving notions about the determined yet futile attempts of humankind to
guide their obdurate fate that serves as an unwelcome side dish to the sachet becomes
increasingly clear. The dominant hunter of the film, characterised by an out of place Mod beetle
cut, is the epitome of the Coens ability to point to biblical themes. Bardem plays the
overpowering force that pervades the audience even when off camera his malevolent presence is
constantly felt and the aftermath of his actions are unpardonably viewable. If the pneumatic hiss of
Chigurh s killing device isn t enough to suggest his vindictive nature, then his sadistic taunting of
his prey as he tightens his grip on their fate undoubtedly solidifies his role as the modern
incarnation of the devil. This living prophet of destruction is watched from afar by disillusioned
sheriff, Ed Tom Bell, who struggles to accept his damned world for the crumbling mess it has
become. Bell,

The Whiskey Rebellion and the Whiskey Tax
The Whisky Rebellion
In 1791, under President George Washington, there was a vigorous debate within the House of
Representatives to approve legislation to enact an excise tax on whiskey. They choose to pass this
law 35 211 because of Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton, who was the secretary of the treasury at the
time, was faced with the task of paying off the U.S. debt after the revolution. Hamilton was an avid
believer in a strong central government which requires a lot of funding. He realized there was an
abundance of alcohol circling around the U.S. at the time that was being both imported and created
here that could be taxed. Hamilton stated that there would be millions of gallons imported into New
York that would potentially give the government two hundred thousand pounds1. Hamilton
particularly pushed this tax to be passed more as a measure of social discipline than as a source of
revenue .
Today, people may regard Hamilton s remark of limiting alcohol consumption to qualify him as
semi prohibitionist. However, Hamilton had a point when he spoke about social discipline and
drinking. When reviewing the health issues of excessively drinking that we currently understand in
modern times, drinking was quite a serious problem in the 18th century. At one point in time,
Hamilton s doctor limited him to consume no more than three glasses of wine per day. The fact
that this doctor considered this to be a small amount tells us a lot about societal views on alcohol in
the 1700 s. It

What Historical And Governmental Policies Influenced Asian...
Asians have been referred to as the Model Minority for decades, but is it an accurate
representation of Asian America culture today? This notion derives from the stereotype that Asian
families are stable and Asian culture produces success in regards to grades and professions. My
questions are as follows: what historical and governmental policies influenced the term, how did it
affect Asian Americans, what should Asian Americans do to be treated equally to improve the
rights of their people, and how does this all tie together with the core concept of history memory? I
hope to answer these questions thoughtfully in my essay.
The term model minority emerged during the 1960s as a response brought on by the Immigration
and Nationality Act ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Asian Americans have been significantly affected today because of the model minority ideology.
The idea of Asian Americans being the model minority encouraged and pushed Caucasian
Americans that if you have the right cultural values, you can make it. This causes an erasure of the
economic disparities and social issues that the poor working Asian Americans have today.
Bernadette Lim, Harvard Undergraduate student, in her article, Model Minority Seems like a
Compliment, but It Does Great Harm, raises awareness that the term Model Minority does a lot of
harm despite it s positive connotation. The author points out the fact that many southeast Asian
minorities are in poverty rates. Included in the southeast Asian category, there is a 40 50% drop out
rate. Asian Americanfemale students have the highest suicide rates among college students from
the pressure of performing really well. This article also points out a threat of Asian Americans in the
college admissions process where Asian Americans are perceived as a threat to other applicants. It
implies that society wants a control to racial contents where they only want enough that serves the
main interest of society. When you are harming the mobility of mainstream Americans, you re
viewed as threatening. Harming, in the case, is Asian Americans taking the spots of college
placements for actual or Caucasian American students.

Medical Marijuan A New Miracle Cure Or Is It Still Just An...
Our society is being faced with questions as to the relevancy of medical marijuana. Is this a new
miracle cure or is it still just an illegal drug? This new member to the pharmaceutical world wants
to stand on its own with the many testimonials that can be found for its valuable use. But it still
hits a brick wall when those who remain fixed on the programmed lessons of the past. Reefer, the

Illegal drug to be hidden or legal pharmaceutical can be argued until the end of time while there
will always be some who disagree, it s human nature. Truly it is hard to remove the programmed
thoughts that still remain in our culture that marijuana will always be the reefer madness culprit of
the past. Yet the actual benefits need to be given a chance. Why not? If it is something that can
help even one person should the public not at least think about it? So while the arguments for both
sides remain firm in their belief of the harms and the cures of marijuana, we as an educated society
need to follow through with the proper research.
Marijuana was initially made illegal at the federal level by the Marijuana TaxStamp Act of 1937.
Anyone wanting to sell the drug had to register and pay taxes on it. Then the federal government
simply did not allow people to register or pay taxes, so everyone selling marijuana was doing so
against the law. This act was struck down after a court challenge by Timothy Leary on Fifth
Amendment grounds (of course the government immediately passed another law against it). The
IRS, however, still officially requires people to pay taxes on their income from illegal drugs:
Illegal income, such as money from dealing illegal drugs, must be include in your income on Form
1040, line 21... (IRS Publication 17, p.87) but in more recent years, many of the states have passed

Anti-Pashtun Influence
Anti Pashtun sentiment has also been rife amongst the Uzbek community. In the 1960s the Sitam e

group whose primary aim was to united non Pashtun to fight against Pashtun dominance. With the
Hazaras community hostility towards Pashtuns stems from persecution suffered from the time of
King Abdul Rahim Khan in the late 1800s, who systemically targeted and wiped out Hazara
communities throughout the country. Their persecution greatly increased during Talibanrule, when
the leader of the Islamic Unity Party, Abdul Ali Mazari, was thrown out of a plane to his death by

of this, President Ghani does deserve commendation for selecting a Hazara representative in such a

Lanthanum Research Paper
Our world, as complex as it is, can be broken down into just 118 different elements. Some of these
elements are well known and their names bring vivid images to mind, such as gold, neon, and
copper. Other elements, however, are much less recognized. In fact, many people have never even
heard of them. Lanthanum is one of these unsung elements. Although, quite often, one may live his
entire life without ever hearing of this element, lanthanum is practically everywhere. Far from
being a rare earth metal, as its name implies, it can be found in many places, from the bones that
make up the human form, to the vegetables that make their meals. (1)(4) This poster will tell the

good at absorbing hydrogen gas. As a powder, it can absorb as much as 400 times its own volume

carbon arc electrodes for film and photographic studio lights and for floodlighting. Lanthanum
Oxide is added to the glass for making lenses because it improves its refractive index, and lanthanum
salts are included in the zeolite catalysts used in petroleum refining because they stabilize at high
temperatures. In medical circles, a new treatment of kidney dysfunction is with lanthanum in the

Narrative Of A QuinceaГ±era
This is the story on how I embarrassed myself in front of many people at my quinceaГ±era. First
off, many people may or may not know what a quinceaГ±era is. It s a traditional mexican party that
a 15 year old girl celebrates, its meaning is it s a transformation from being a young girl to a
woman. This all began spring of last year. My familyand I began to plan my party. We searched for
decoration that corresponded to what color I chose for my party. It ended up being the color
pink, although it looked more of a coral. Around two weeks later we began to do decorations, by
this time the salon was already rented out and was ready to fill it with items and get everything

so that lasted around another two hours. So it was time, I had to prepare myself mentally
because there was more people than expected. I had the girls in a straight line and when the
music began they danced their way on to the stage. Soon as the song began to my part I danced
on to the stage with the other girls. Is was going pretty smoothly but the Dj we had messed up
the parts for the music so I had to guide the girls with me to make sure everything goes as
planned. The dance took around 5 8 minutes it was really short but we kind of expanded the time.
The guest clapped and began to continue to party, around three hours later we had the Father
daughter dance, it was really emotional for me because he was really proud of me because I was
becoming a young woman and how he would never forget the first time he held me in his arms. I
was just really happy to see him on my special day. Then I danced with my mom who also cried

The arguments made often rely on the trussing that these experts provide through their ethos.
Statements made were often times exaggerated at best and occasionally required logical fallacies to
work. There is a large amount of time demonizing the current food industry and the artificial and
mono nutrient compounds in the first half of the film. Use of scary chemical names and
misappropriated information about said chemical is used for harrowing effect. Propylene glycol
is one chemical remarked to be a common food additive that could also be used to winterize your
car. As this is not a false statement, it is similar in effect to saying that water is in antifreeze. MSG
was stated as another chemical used in this manner that was extremely harmful (viewer was
implored at one point to search for MSG Obesity induced mice ). Aspartame and other artificial
sweeteners were also vilified, with claims such as Aspartame causing formaldehyde buildup in the
brain.
When studies were shown not to support the film s argument, they were occasionally argued to be
irrelevant due to interested manufacturers funding (and possibly manipulating) the data within the
studies for monetary gains. An example is when Dr. Mercola that the 90 studies that find aspartame
to be harmless by Ralph G. Walton and the like, 90 percent of them are funded by corporate interest

The Role of Hbcus in American Society
For almost two hundred years, Historically Black Colleges and Universities or HBCUs have
played a pivotal role in the education of African American people, and negro people internationally.
These schools have provided the majority of black college graduates at the Graduate and Post
Graduate level; schools such as Hampton University, Morehouse University, Spellman University
and Howard University are four universities at the forefront of the advanced education of blacks.
For sometime there has been a discussion on whether or not these institutes should remain in
existence or if they are just another form of racism. There were also concerning the quality of
education provided at these institutions. In my opinion, from the evidence provided... Show more

I also believe that HBCUs are a better alternative to affirmative action. These institutions have the
capacity to attract and motivate many young black people, to advance their education. By seeing
people just like them, with similar backgrounds and similar interest making great achievements, it
provides those young black people with a pride and a sense of empowerment. This is most effective
in the poorer neighborhoods where morale is low. It is true that HBCUs enroll students with the
lowest test scores in American education; according to Elias Blake Jr. in the article from Emerge,
Black colleges are still enrolling a majority of the most vulnerable students that have the lowest
income and the lowest test scoresВ… (par. 7). Studies show that in many disadvantaged
communities, the quality of education is not up to par with the quality in the wealthier
communities. Therefore, those in these poorer communities are at a disadvantage. But from the
statistics on the amount on the amount of successful African Americans who graduate from these
historically black institutions, something right must be occurring. I believe that these HBCUs are
an ideal environment for these students as they place these under achieving students in an
environment which they are comfortable, and allows them the ability to develop their skills. In the

Music Therapy Research Summary
Music Therapy Approaches for Treatment of Agitation and Anxiety in Patients with Dementia
Music Therapy Methods The studies reviewed, implemented various music therapy interventions to
older adult dementia patients to examine the effects associated with agitation and anxiety
behaviors. Music therapy methods used throughout the twelve studies include live presentations,
pre recorded listening activities and instrumental utilization exercises. Two studies utilized a mixed
method model (Ridder, 2013; Chu, 2013). Live presentation approach. Two studies used a live
presentation approach to deliver the intended music therapy (Clare, 2014; Cooke, 2010). Clare?s

The Importance Of Objects In My Life
Most individuals have an object that holds a high value to them and affects their life in one way
or another. Behind each object, is a story to be told. Like most people, I have an object in my life
that I cherish dearly and will always appreciate because of the positive effect it has on my life.
The object is soft to the touch, is a variety of colors, and can be made into a tangible object. The
object is extremely important in my life because it has taught me a life lesson that I will always
cherish and the object also reminds me of an individual that pushes me to be the best individual I
can possibly be and strive for greatness no matter the state of a situation. I first encountered this
object when I was about eight years old. I encountered this object when I was at my grandmother
s house on a Saturday. My grandmother was sitting down underneath the porch and I was right
beside her. The view was unbelievably astonishing! Although my grandmother and I were just in
the backyard, I remember the grass, trees, and plants being greener than ever and reflecting the
light off that came from the sun. It was a beautiful day; the weather was warm, there was a slight
cool breeze, birds were chirping, and the sun was glistening beautifully on my grandmother s skin
and mine as well. When I first encountered the object, the only people that were involved was my
grandmother and I. I patiently watched my grandmother precisely while she worked her hands with

Analysis Of A Little Drop Of Poison By Tom Waits
A Little Drop of Poison is an energetic, high paced tango piece that resonates with the viewer. The
song is performed by Tom Waits and follows a moderate tango tempo. Additionally, it is in C minor
key at a 108 beats per minute. Little Drop of Poison features chordophones such as the string
instruments guitar and piano. This combination of instruments is a typical accompaniment for
tango pieces. The tango initially emerged in Argentina in the late 1800s in the lower class districts
of Bueno Aires and Montevideo. The tango is a danceinfluenced by a blend of African and

This is a far cry from the humble beginnings of tango, which evolved as a cultural movement
among people from lower economic backgrounds. Now, tangos are performed in dance studios,
night clubs, ballroom events, and at festivals. Additionally, the clip markets the tango as a sexual,
sensual dance which therefore translates to international appeal to global markets regardless of
whatever song is being played. Tango s biggest global commercial asset is the ability to invigorate
the dancer into a sensually charged dance with their partner while following the rhythm and abrupt
pauses from the piano.
Tango s cultural mobility is evident as it was first performed salons and quickly spread to bars,
brothels, and dance halls. A landmark evidence of tango s cultural mobility is that it begun as a
blend of a variety of dances from many distinct cultures. Pairing African rhythms with the
Argentine Milonga, a fast paced polka dance, heavily influenced tango. New steps were created
and a new form of dance was created that quickly spread across other cultures in the world.
Tango began as a dance for the poor, but quickly became a symbol of Argentine pride and it
spread from city to city then to Uruguay and eventually the rest of the world. Tango emerged in

The Civil Rights Movement Of James Farmer Essay
Freedom and equality are inherent rights in the United States: therefore, I encourage young people
to take on the task by standing up and speaking out on behalf of people denied those rights. We
have not yet finished the job of making our country whole
James Farmer, 19
James Farmer was one of the Big Four of the civil rights movement era of the nineteen hundreds,
he called for racial harmony through non violence. James Farmer helped shape civil rights
movements with his use of non violent protest and activism. This non violence led to popular
support for the civil rights and voting rights acts that would be passed in 1964. James Farmer s
stand for racial harmony and nonviolence, led to freedom rides, sit ins, and the founding of CORE
(Congress of Racial Equality). He used many different mediums for his (stand taking) throughout
his (career), of which include: Congress of Racial Equality, the NAACP (National Association for
the Advancement of Colored People), and other labor and civil rights groups.
In the early 20th century it was commonplace for African Americans to be segregated from
(Whites) in the United States of America. Separate seats in buses, different waiting rooms in
doctors offices, separate entrances, and it was even illegal in Missouri for people to make
arguments or suggestions in favor of social equalities or of interracial between whites and Negroes

Different Types Of Valuation Methods
Within the financial sector, there are many different types of valuation methods in which their
purpose is to receive the share price of a company. Throughout this paper, I will discuss the various
methods and the factors that contribute to the outcomes of each one. The context of this paper will
be discussed in the manners of both the positive and negative aspects of each method. With each
method, I will also explain the factors that significantly influence the price of each method used.
Currently, Cenovus is trading on the Toronto StockExchange at a value of $17.83. One of the key
aspects that I will acknowledge is that they currently have a long term growth value of 108% and
their target price is $18.55. Other factors can be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is one of the most significant downfalls of this method, because you can greatly misprice the
value of the firm without considering the cash flows as well as other variables. Another common
valuation method that one may use is the EV/EBITDA ratio method. This specific method takes
into consideration the value of EBITDA as well as the value of net debt (market value of debt).
Another important consideration that investors must be aware of is the type of depreciation
method that Cenovus uses. Since Cenovus is a large asset company, this is a vital aspect to
consider when using the book value method. If Cenovus depreciates their assets at a faster pace,
this will allow investors to part take in a valuable investment and would cause for a positive pick
for their portfolio. However, if the company depreciates their asset in a slower manner, this could
create a higher book price than what the stock is currently trading at. This may misrepresent the
value of the firm to the investor. Investors should be cautious when considering this type of method
for valuing companies. Therefore, investors should do thorough research in what type of
depreciation method Cenovus uses. The methods include a straight line depreciation or a double
declining method. Both have a significant impact on the share price of the firm when using the book
value approach.

The Problems of Southern California Essay
From reading the author s book Ecology of Fear, Mike Davis main thesis for writing this book
was to make readers become aware of the underlying problems and threats which have existed or
currently exist in Southern California and how these problems shape the way we live today and in
the imminent future as well. Although Davis did not really provide us with any remedies for the
problems facing Southern California, this book made it very clear to the readers that problems do
still exist, although at times they may sound subtle in nature. Of the numerous problems which do
exist in Southern California, I will discuss only a handful of the problems that Davis provided us
insight to. In the following paragraphs, the main problems of Southern... Show more content on

Another problem of suburbanization was that the rampant private development led to the
overdevelopment of the landscape. This overdevelopment was due in large part to the fact that the
private developers were manipulating the city council. The author states, [a]t the end of the war,
greenbelt zoning for the Valley was actually passed into law by the city council, but it lacked the
broad political support to survive the relentless counterattack of developers and landowners.
(Davis, p. 76). Due to the fact that the city council was so small in size, developers were able to
greatly gain influence in demanding for policies that would enhance their desire for even more
private development. But, lost in this mix was the fact that overdevelopment led to a decreased
amount of public space and the loss of natural beauty to the landscape. By 1928 parks comprised
a miserable 0.6 percent of the surface of the metropolis...No large city in the United States was so
stingy with public space. (Davis, p. 65). This statistic gives us clear indication of who the culprit
was for the overdevelopment which occurred in Southern California in the 1920s and beyond: the
developers.
The second main issue that Ecology of Fear raised was regarding the wild fires that have ravaged
Southern California for years. Although this situation arises virtually every time the Santa Ana
winds kick in or due to the presence of chaparral

Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Pros And Cons
The Israeli Palestinian conflict has been a tragedy, a clash between one very powerful, very
convincing, very painful claim over this land and another no less powerful, no less convincing
claim, (Oz, Amos). This conflict has been one that has lasted multiple decades and continues to be a
hotbed for controversial opinions and arguments. One pressing issue in today s time is whether or
not the United States should continue to support what seems like a never ending conflict. The
United States Government should continue to pressure Israelinto a two state solution in order to
reap the benefits, which include the creation of democratic nations in the Middle East, improved
relations with bordering countries, and a decrease in violence.

As the world becomes more industrialized and interdependent, the need for good relations in
areas increases, especially with countries near Israel. The Middle East is becoming a more
prominent player in global relations today, making their alliance extremely valuable to those
who have it. The United States relationship with countries in the Middle East is a pressing topic
as terrorism in this region grows. By pressuring Israel into creating two states, the United States
can help decrease the hostile relations between them and countries Palestine is allied with, which
include Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan among many other arab nations. According to Chas W.
Freeman of the Middle East Policy Council, our main conflict with the arab states stems from
our alliance and support of Israel while they continue to oppress Palestinians. Thus, two states
would lead to a relaxation in these relations. As discussed in the paragraph above, two states
would also lead to the creation of the first two democracies in the Middle East. Through shared
political views, relations in the area will improve as well. Therefore, the pressure of the United
States to create two states will boost relations with countries in the Middle East, which is vital in

Analysis Of The Poem, God, Earth Walker And The Wanderer
From the first depiction of the subject of The Wanderer, earth stepper, earth walker, and the
Wanderer, the translators Greg Delanty, E. Talbot Donaldson, and Alfred David differ in their
translations (Delanty l. 6, Donaldson 112, David l. 6). These differences build throughout the rest
of the poem, eventually leading the audience to arrive at different conclusions based on each
translation. By translating the Christian ideas in the poem (God, Earth, human) with distinct word
choice, Delanty, Donaldson, and David create translations of The Wanderer that demonstrate the
pitfalls of choosing inaccurate language.
Delanty, Donaldson, and David cannot agree on the proper translation of the most central element
of Christianity, God, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By focusing on replicating the poetic structure of the original Old English in Modern English,
Delanty betrays his background as a poet, compared to David and Donaldson, who are both
professors. By choosing poetic form over a more accurate translation, Delanty describes a
concept of an impersonal deity, a concept that did not exist in the time of the poem, and leads the
audience to the conclusion that the poet confused religious views. Conversely, by drawing on
Biblical tradition, David and Donaldson inject strong Christian sentiment into the poem that the
original poet may not have intended and suggest to the audience that the Christian God held a
prominent role in Anglo Saxon religious life. In direct reference to God for the second time,
Delanty s choice of Shaper follows a different path than David s and Donaldson s Mankind s
Creator and Maker of Mankind, respectively (Delanty l. 85, David l. 85, Donaldson 113). Delanty
continues to develop the deity of the poem in distinctly non Christian terms. While the
capitalization of the term clearly indicates Delanty considers this moniker representative of God, he
does not make a connection to Christian teaching. This suggests Delanty believes the God, or
higher power, of the poem does not align with the God of Christianity and the poem has fewer
connections to Christianity than the translations of David or Donaldson would suggest. David and
Donaldson use similar

Looking at the section beginning No one has imagined us, I didn t identify the us necessarily as
female but more generally just as humanity struggling and that their the only one who notice
how rough things are, which, incidentally, I think is more powerful left unnamed because it
allows the reader to take on the poem for him or herself. Then I read live like trees, which i get
the sense it means they want to live naturally, free from the patriarchal oppression, and be able to
branch out, take up space in this city. The poet makes reference to the opera Tristand und Isolde
(a story about lovers that do confuse death and love, due to a love potion) and makes a point to
say that the opera is NOT the story that fate, magic, love potions, etc., have nothing to do with it.
The existential theme is continued when the poet mentions a tape recorder a device that can
only record sound, what is actually said and done. In a sense, she is saying that actions are what
are important thoughts and intentions are meaningless in death, what remains after we are gone
is how we were are seen by others. If our actions define who we are or how we tried to love, the
recorded may have caught some ghost of us that recordable actions are what will be remembered
after death. She is saying that love is what we say and do, what we choose to act upon by
ourselves despite the forces that rage within us and against. I think it s also

The Importance Of Natural Resources
In today s fast pace society, we often do not pay much attention to the amount of natural resources
we are consuming, and the limited supply of these resources that we will have in the future. The
depletion of natural resources is the consumption of a resource faster than it can be replenished. All
humanbeings depend on these natural resources for our basic needs. People often take for granted
the abundance of natural resources we have as of now, and use them at an unsustainable rate,
putting many of these resources on the verge of becoming depleted. It is reported that humans are
using 30% more resources than the Earth can replenish each year, thus leading to deforestation,
degraded soils and land, and polluted air and water. Our current world populationis 7.2 billion and
growing at a rapid rate of about 1.14% per year, however the earth s natural resources are only
sustainable for 2 billion at the current demand. As populations grow, consumption increases at a
faster rate than technology can find new ways to produce natural resources, and the problem
gradually gets worse. At the way humans are living, we are using 2 3 times more of the earth s
natural resources than what is sustainable. Our ecological footprint is 1 ВЅ times the earth s ability
to provide the resources needed to meet this level of consumption. When humans need
employment, food, or ways to raise their standard of living, they often look to practices such as

Drinking Water Quality in Mexico City Essay
Mexico City is among the largest, busiest, and most populated places on the planet. Being one of
the largest cities has benefits as well as problems. Among all the problems that Mexico City faces
pollution is one of the worst especially in regards to the quality of its potable water because it is
vital for life. The reliability of drinking waterdepends on its quality and Mexico Cityis confronted
with many problems relating to water because the population continues to grow. Thus, the
groundwater supply of the city, as well as river basins around the area, are suffering a large deficit.

The two previously mentioned basins connect to other rivers and basins in such a complicated
network that the water levels of the most significant freshwater lake in the entirety is Mexico
Chapala Lake which lies in Jalisco are negatively affected. Over the past two decades, the
transfer of water from external sources to Mexico City has resulted in the historic decrease of
water levels of freshwater bodies, including Chapala Lake. In the last years of the twentieth
century it was estimated that Chapala Lake s water levels dropped about five meters (Ezcurra and
Mazari Hiriart, 1996).
Water has become such a scarce necessity that the city is now taking larger amounts of water
from the Cutzamala and Lerma River Basins. Mexico City does provide for itself a decent
amount of water approximately seventy percent (Tortajada and Castelan, 2003). Even though
Mexico City supports itself with water from the basin it lies in Basin of Mexico it does so with
repercussions. The most difficult problems the city is facing occur because the groundwater is
being mined: they are removing more than naturally flows in. Mexico City is situated on a dry
lake bed, and it is suffering from soil subsidence. They are overdrafting groundwater so much that
the city sinks at an average rate of thirty centimeters each year (Alcocer and Williams, 1996).

Indoor Tanning Benefits
Indoor tanning is no new fad to the modern world. The ease of being able to lie under UV lights
and tan to a golden brown, no matter the season, seems to appeal to people. Indoor tanning is much
more than just getting golden skin. While there are few studies displaying the benefits of tanning
beds, majority of researchers argue against the use of indoor tanning due to it s harmful effects.
Without the use of tanning beds, it was difficult for people to keep a year round tan, especially
during winter season. Many would spend endless hours outside during the summertime to get
bronzed skin, but with the invention of tanning beds, it changed peoples outlooks and they began
to use these devices to their advantage. The thought of being able to visit a salon to get tan
regardless of the type of weather outside seems to be highly appealing to many of us. Tanning

Summary 2008 Financial Crisis
The financial crisis began in early 2006 when the subprime mortgage market in the U.S. began to
display an increasing rate of mortgage defaults. These defaults lead, in late 2006, to a decline in
US housing prices after nearly a decade of exceptionally high growth. Many Americans watched as
their primary source of wealth become increasingly devalued. By late 2007, the prime mortgage
markets were showing higher than normal default rates as well.
Collateralized Mortgage Obligations (CMOs), a type of collateralized debt obligations (CDOs),
allowed these problems to spread from the mortgage market to other sectors of the economy,
having especially widespread effects on financial markets as a whole. CMOs were mortgage

These liquidity problems turned to insolvency in September of 2008, when private lending froze
completely in a number of important credit markets, such as commercial paper. As a result, non
financial businesses were unable to get access to the financing they required to function normally,
leading to problems in the real economy.
The real economy began to exhibit problems related to the financial crisis as early as March
2006, when investment expenditure on residential structures began to decline. In early 2008, this
decline spread to investment in business equipment and consumer spending on durable goods. It
wasn t until the summer of 2008 that consumer spending broadly and GDP began falling, signs
of a recession. (In December 2008, the National Bureau of Economic Research, official arbiter of
business cycles dated the formal beginning of the recession as December 2007.) While the public
had been concerned about recession for much of the year, it wasn t until the fall that the economy
began to decline at more than a 6% annual rate. Congress responded by passing the TARP plan to
assist failing financial institutions. This plan was meant to decrease the severity of the recession by
treating its cause: the financial crisis.

However, in terms of making the equation fit threats that are under other categories, we learn that

adequate calculation tool for estimating risk in the terrorism domain, for which independence of
threats, vulnerabilities, and consequences does not typically hold and feedbacks exist, (The

Student Loan Vs. Private Loan
In order to get ahead in today s society people must take a risk. That risk may include taking out
student loans in order to acquire the necessary degree for their wanted job. For some taking out
student loans in the only way to achieve their goal of going to college. There are many different
types of student loans that a person could qualify for, for example, a federal loanor private loan. No
matter what type of loan is being offered before someone should accept any type of loan and the
responsibilities that come along with it they should consider the positives and negative
repercussions that could occur. Often times people hear many negative things about student
loans but there are a few positive things about them. A student loan allows someone to attend
college and further their education which gives them benefits that they will be able to use later
in life. The main benefit and reason individuals go to college is to reach the goal of a higher
education, greater employment opportunities and solid earnings and student loans make that
possible (Venable 2). It could also be a positive thing depending on the amount a person borrows
and terms they agree to pay it back. Having student loans that are possible to make regular
payments on is an opportunity to increase a person s credit score allowing better financial
opportunities, for example, being able to acquire a car loan, business loan, or mortgage (Venable

Napoleon III s Impact On France And Germany
Napoleon III and Bismarck both had huge impacts on France and Germany respectively. Both
men had great diplomatic skills and strong personalities which lead to all sorts of reforms within
their nation. Both men are known for their leadership skills and for the Franco Prussian war, and
even though the war technically ended by military means, both of their diplomatic skills had major
impacts on the dynamic and outcome of the war. It is unclear to many how the war ended with a
Prussian victory; and this is an attempt to explain what led to the war, and how those factors
resulted into a Prussian victory.
Napoleon III was born on April 20th 1808 as Charles Louis Napoleon Bonaparte. His father is
Napoleon s younger brother, making him one of Napoleon s nephews. After the imprisonment of
Napoleon after Waterloo in 1815, he and his family were forced into exile by the French

the premature death of Napoleon s only son and the death of his own older brother made him the
apparent heir to claim. He took the claim very seriously, and even attempted multiple coups to

Penokee Hills In Northern Wisconsin
Wisconsin has a long tradition of being at the forefront of environmental protection. From having
pristine national forests, clear water, and tough environmental regulations to keep our forests
pristine and water clear. Now, in the 21st Century, Wisconsin is losing that right due to Wisconsin
Governor Scott Walker. Walker is a big proponent for a mine in the Penokee Hills. The Penokee
Hills are located in Northern Wisconsin, in Iron County, just south of the Bad River Band of Lake
SuperiorOjibwe Reservation. This mine would have been an iron mine, one of the world s largest
open pit mine. The problem with this mine is it would have destroyed most of the Penokee Hills,
the environment around it, and polluted everything around it, including... Show more content on

One consequence on the environment would have been from the pollutants the mine would have
given off. One of these pollutants would be Mercury. In the process of getting iron ore from taconite
pellets, which is what is mined, the taconite must be heated up, one element that is given off
during the heating process is Mercury (WI DNR, 2003, 22 25). When Mercury is in it s gaseous
form, it enters the water cycle and helps form acid rain (WI DNR, 2003). When the acid rain is
released as precipitation, it enters the waterways and pollutes the waters. In the case of Northern
Wisconsin, this acid rain would help pollute the Bad River Watershed, one of the biggest
tributaries of Lake Superior, which would be polluted from the Mercury. Pollution of Lake
Superior would be devastating. Lake Superior is the world s largest freshwater lake and it s water
flows through the Great Lakes, down the St. Lawrence River, and into the Atlantic Ocean, all of
which would be polluted. Also, Lake Superior is a huge source of drinking water for a huge portion
of cities located right on the lake including Ashland and Superior in Wisconsin, Duluth and Cloquet
in Minnesota, Sault St. Marie and Marquette in Minnesota, and Thunder Bay in Canada just to
name a few (Lake by Lake, 2003). Another major pollutant is Sulfate. Sulfate is one of the major
parts of taconite mine runoff. Sulfate does the same as Mercury except it is mixed in the water
right away instead of being in acid rain, though it is a component to acid rain (WI DNR, 2013,
iv). Sulfate directly ran off into watersheds creates more problems than if it were just in acid
rain. In the Bad River Watershed, wild rice is a prominent crop grown in the water for the
Ojibwe. That runoff can form Sulfide, and it has been shown in Minnesota to be toxic to wild
rice, helping destroy a means of income for so many people ( Wild Rice Sulfate, 2014, 5 6).

An Analysis of Three Presidential Elections
In this paper, three years of presidential elections shall be analyzed, mainly keeping an eye on the
turnout of voter, and the causes and effects of such turnouts. It shall be observed that voting
turnouts are directly related to the attitude candidate have and the ways in which they make fellow
citizens eager about their potential presidency, and the policies they plan on bringing to the country
that are related to the general public.
The first year of Presidential elections to be analyzed is that of 1988. Records show that in 1988,
in which Dukakis and Bush were battling for the title of President, the turnout was even lower than
the average expectation and only 91,594,686 people showed up to cast their vote. This figure
concludes that 50.1 percent of people eligible to vote came to elect the president of their choice and
the rest did not show interest. (Wright, 1995)
As mentioned the 1988 election was not very successful in attaining the president of the choice of
most American people because a very low number of people showed up to cast their vote. The low
turnout can be explained through several reasons.
First of all, it must be realized that Dukakis was a democratic candidate. It is well known that
democrats usually attract the low socioeconomic population who are more likely to skip voting for
reasons that are not political. However, those with higher socioeconomic statuses, who are less
likely to skip elections, are generally in favor of Republican leaders.

His most legendary inaugural address was on January 20, 1961, when JFK sought to inspire all

The Effects Of Music On Deaf People
INTRODUCTION : Ever wonder if deaf people can listen to music and enjoy it as much as
hearing people do? Well the outcome is certainly surprising, as deaf people cannot listen but
perceive music in much more deeper and meaningful ways because they can feel the core
vibrations, hence allowing them to feel the rhythm of music and enjoy it just like hearing
people do. The perception of the musical vibrations by the Deaf is likely every bit as real as the
equivalent sounds, since they are ultimately processed in the same part of the brain (WebMD).
In today s world, majority of people are creatures of sound, and most of them are always
accompanied by their best friend; their music player, which has taken the shape of many
different devices such as iPods, phones, mp3 players, laptops and many others, they would rarely
be unaccompanied by their headphones, having constant access to the Radio or a personal music
library. Walking down the street, you come across many people who practically walk into
telephone booths, electric polls and sign boards as they are too busy paying attention to the noises
and sounds emanating from their headphones, making them visually oblivious to the world around
them. This essay will focus on how the deaf perceive music and how the music industry has
progressed in serving the deaf so that they can also enjoy and experience music the same way as
hearing people do. It has therefore been spectacularly enlightening to discover that people could

Informative Essay About Star Wars Movies
All 9 Star Wars movies combined have earned a total of $37 Billion Dollars all over the world! The
First Star Wars Episode came out on May 25, 1977. They are still continuing the saga to this day
with the release of Episode 8: The Last Jedi. Disney still has plans for at least 2 more Star Wars
movies with Solo: A Star WarsStory and Star Wars Episode 9. This would make Star Wars one of
the longest running movie series. Arguably, Star Wars is one of the best movie series to ever
exist. Anybody who watches a movie they have never seen before are usually clueless as to what
the plot is, but not for Star Wars. The first thing you see when you watch a Star Wars movie is
The Scrolling Text which introduces the plot for anybody new, so they aren t clueless. According

Despair In A Clean Well-Lighted Place
Mallory Cox Period 3 12/17/2015 Comp 1 Despair, Loneliness, and Nothingness In Ernest

the hardships that the characters are facing. The old man that the waiter s guess is about 80
years old has attempted in many ways to deal with despair. He had a wife, but he does not
anymore. He has money, but the money is enough to deal with what he is feeling. The older
waiter also knows that the old man has attempted suicide. The mans niece saved him from
committing suicide, which once again does not save him from the despair that he is feeling. In
the beginning of the short story the younger waiter and the older waiter are watching an older
deaf man. They conclude that the older man likes the night time, but the younger waiter does not
get what the older waiter and the man understand and feel about night time. The older man that
sits under the shadows coming from a tree taps his glass to the saucer on his table indicating that
he wants more. He asks for Brandy. The servers watch him carefully because they know that if he
gets too drunk, he will not pay. The younger waiter is happy, young, and confident. The older
waiter tells the younger waiter that he is lucky and he has much more than he could ever have. The

Disadvantages Of Distilled Drinks
Spirits or distilled beverages are types of alcoholic drinks which are produced by distillation of a
mixture produced from alcoholic fermentation. Spirits are often called hard liquor or simply liquor .
The distillation process of spirits excludes the diluting water component results in increasing the
alcohol content in the drinks. Unlike, beer and wine, distilled spirits contain no added sugar and
their ABV content is ~20%. Distilled spirits are the types of alcoholic beverages where the
concentration of ethyl alcohol has been increased over and above that of the original fermented
mixture. This is because yeast (the main component in fermentation) will not be able to survive

An Informative Essay On Mardi Gras
Mardi Gras is a Christian holiday, which was brought by the French when they colonized a part
of the United States of America. The first time that Mardi Grass was celebrated in America, was
on March 3, 1699 (History, 2016) in what is today known as Louisiana, later in this carnival
would be moved to New Orleans. Since the carnival was moved out of New Orleans, every year is
celebrated between February and March; it all depends when is going to be Easter. I chose
Mardi Gras, because it was an opportunity to search more about this carnival, particularly in New
Orleans. This carnival is celebrated around the world, but New Orleans has always stood up for its

he was never gay. The depressing tone and choice of lyrics helped me connect with these stanzas
in a more literal sense. Whenever I listen to or read the lyrics, the imagery I see is me killing a

Similarities Between Bergman And Ingmar Bergman
Ingmar Bergman. Ingmar Bergman s films commonly deal with his doubts about the existence of
God, earning him the sobriquet the protestant atheist . His religious interests came from his
childhood. His father, Erik, was a Lutheran pastor of the old school. Although the two never had a
close relationship, Ingmar would often travel with his father to country parishes, where he listened
to the sermons and hymns and studied the icons and architecture to pass the time during services
that seemed interminable to a restless young boy. His relationship with his mother Karin wasn t any
more nurturing and Ingmar grew up in a lonely house. He found solace in Puppet Theater and
projections. Throughout his long film career Bergman continued to deal with themes of
psychological torment,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Its focus is more on psychological trauma; the explosion of fear and emotion when facing past
regrets. There is however, a direct correlation between the two. Unlike The Seventh Seal, the
religious element in Wild Strawberries is minor even though both are variations on the questions
that constitute the majority of comprehensive themes in Bergman s work. In both films the
protagonist must face the truth about his past and present. This is achieved here through what Carl
Jung called The Night Sea Journey . A journey into the individuals own subconscious. Dreams and
hallucinations are the most accessible mediums of this type of psychic trip; the proximity of death
as in Wild Strawberries and The Seventh Seal can provide a catalyst for such a journey. Bergman
has an ability to convince an audience that the dream sequence projected on the screen, while
inherently artificial is believable. It is through these dream sequences that Bergman s symbolism
becomes enigmatic, probing the recesses of the individuals psyche and the complexities of human
relationships that could not otherwise be explained

Divine Justice In Dante s 5th Canto
Canto 5
In the 5th canto Dante enters the second circle of Hell. Here, Dante places the unchaste lovers. This
shows that Dante was heavily influenced by the puritanical extremism of the Medieval Catholic
Church. The Medieval Catholic Church demonized the feeling of love. It considered the feeling
sexual attraction as something impure, which is why all church bishops had to be virgin. Dante
uses his own character s emotions to show an important philosophical problem about the
immorality of extramarital love that the real Dante Alighieri probably thought about.
This canto is important as it shows a philosophical clash of human emotions with the concept of
Divine Justice. Here we can see that Dante presents himself as someone who is saddened by the
fact that the lovers must suffer so much. Dante Alighieri himself was famous for his love of
Beatrice, a woman he never married. So it is understandable why Dante would pity them, share
their pain and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Melebolge is the 8th circle of hell. It contains corrupt and hypocritical people. In the 29th canto
Dante finds himself surrounded by damned souls who are guilty of simony. Among them is Pope
Nicholas III who mistakes Dante for Pope Boniface VII, signaling that Boniface VII will soon
arrive there as well.
This canto is interesting to historians as this gives us a unique perspective into the political
climate of Florence and the medieval world at that time. Dante grew up as a Florentine Guelf.
He was a politician in the city of Florence. He served as a member of Florentine Signoria. His
political party was the Bianchi faction of Florentine Guelfs. They wanted more liberty for
Florence and less power for the Pope. They were overthrown by the Neri faction of the Guelfs and
the papal politicians. After that Dante was exiled out of Florence by the Neris. This is why it is
obvious that Dante would put Boniface VIII in

Descriptive Essay About Field Day
FIELD DAY
Everything started to look dim, then I was out. I was at school and I was thrilled for the day to
start. The reason why was because today was field day. So I got to my homeroom and my teacher
Mrs. Martin (my second grade teacher) started explaining what was going to happen today. I
couldn t make out everything from the fact that I was thinking about what was going to happen
today. We started heading outside carrying all the materials we will need for the day.
So if you were not sure what field day is I ll give you a summary of what it s about, so field day is a
day when you hang outside playing games with competition against other classes.
So anyways, my class got to the fields along with the other classes and we started the games. When
the first second of the first game started, I felt nervous. I was very competitive about things and I
wanted to win. I watched as the games went by and I had to because I was the captain and I had to
keep track of the score. We were losing badly and making me think of all of the scores made me
woozy.
When it was finally my game to play I started to feel light headed, but I headed over to my station
anyway. My teammates were Gabe, Laney and some other people. Gabe was behind me and
Laney was in front. The game I was in was the sled pull. I felt like I wanted to drop to the ground.
Finally it was my turn then Gabe tapped my shoulder. You have a tick behind your ear, Gabe yelped.
I didn t hear him and whispered, What.

  • 3. Don Juan Womanizer Charming, attentive, interested, witty, flirtatious, these are all traits of a womanizer. The only difference between a womanizer and a good man is a womanizer acts in this manner to get in your pants, not your heart. Don Juan the Trickster of Seville, his name says it all. Don Juan is a smooth talking, egotistical, cunning, never changing womanizer who thrives off of seducing women. His love for romance and women and his lack of moral obligation make him a guy that mothers warn their daughters about. His intoxicating wit and charm are irresistible to those who catch his eye. Not only is he a womanizer but a true representation of the wages of sin. Don Juan lives his life as if he is untouchable and true definition of a risk taker when it comes to sin. Don Juan doesn t just give us a glimpse of his way of life he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For an example, in Don Hermanas Don Juan seduces a bride named Aminta. When he is seducing Aminta he is mocking the innocence by saying by this white hand, a winter of pure snow, take my hand (III, 290). He knows his hand (actions) aren t as pure as snow. Don Juan portrays arrogance and high self esteem. He has an unrealistic self image in that he believes he is superior to others, and feels it s his right to mock them. Don Juan feels he is superior because of his noblemen upbringing. His father is a kingsmen and so is his uncle so he feels he can get away with more than the average person. He has this air about him that he is better than everyone else and proves it with mockery. Everything to Don Juan is a joke and he doesn t see why everyone gets so upset about his tricks. He is clearly oblivious to punishment and he is reminded continually of punishment to come by Catalinon, his father, and those women he tricks. Don Juan lacks the insight as to the significance of his behavior for himself and other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Grossman Grow Up Not So Fast Analysis The story Grow Up? Not So Fast was taken from Time magazine on January 16, 2005 from writer, novelist, and journalist, Lev Grossman. Grossman was born in 1969 and grew up in Lexington, MA, to English professors, which essentially inspired him to become the writer he is today. From his childhood, adolescence, to his college years he read a lot and eventually gained a career in writing, his passion. The first novel of his that was published was called, Warp in 1997, followed by Codex in 2004, which was an international sensation. Interspersed with his career in writing successful novels, Grossman has been a book critic at Timemagazine, he has analyzed many stories that have come across his desk and has written many stories that have appeared in famous papers and magazines like the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and even Time. The story, Grow Up? Not So Fast is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not So Fast he talks about a new generation called the Twister . They are young adults from about the age of 18 to 25 who just will not grow up. Grossman goes on to argue in various ways to appeal to the readers emotional, ethical, and logical senses throughout his story. Grossman concentrates his story with what seems to be real life examples, people in today s society considered twixters, which embody every ounce of this new identity. They do not own their own house, they have had many jobs, they are not married nor do they have kids, and some even live at home. He then goes on to argue why this new subculture came to be and what this new subculture entails, filling each with personal examples from real life people and every now and then comparing them to the past as to show how bad things are. However, there are a few instances in Grossman s piece that he fails to hit the mark, and some instances where he blatantly ignores an aspect of it just to prove his point, which is understandable but is easily seen ... • 5. Cormac McCarthy s No Country for Old Men Essay Ignorant souls will probably tell you that No Country for Old Men is a film of thirst for blood, material wealth and a sheriff s investigation. Those that suggest this, however, are the same that tune in weekly for their dose of Big Brother: The Evictions and are swayed by the words of their local car salesman. The Coen brothers masterful 2005 adaption of Cormac McCarthy s No Country for Old Menis a standout in recent cinema history, pushing aside this year s spit out of Transformers from explosion junkie Michael Bay. Taking a different approach from their usual quirky, humour films littered with three word profanities (cue: Burn after ReadingOsbourne Cox fans), the Coen s have successfully stepped into a dark, deeply disquieting drama... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the relentlessly vindictive manner of McCarthy s novel, Bell delivers a welcomed voice of sanity and justice to the human mind; his old school morals and philosophical reminiscences offering a sanction in a world dominated by evil. But it is Vietnam Vet, Llewellyn Moss, who levels best with the audience. Playing the wild card of the three, Brolin delivers a human centre to the film; the man most identifiable with, even as the odds steepen against him. As the minutes fly by, unnerving notions about the determined yet futile attempts of humankind to guide their obdurate fate that serves as an unwelcome side dish to the sachet becomes increasingly clear. The dominant hunter of the film, characterised by an out of place Mod beetle cut, is the epitome of the Coens ability to point to biblical themes. Bardem plays the overpowering force that pervades the audience even when off camera his malevolent presence is constantly felt and the aftermath of his actions are unpardonably viewable. If the pneumatic hiss of Chigurh s killing device isn t enough to suggest his vindictive nature, then his sadistic taunting of his prey as he tightens his grip on their fate undoubtedly solidifies his role as the modern incarnation of the devil. This living prophet of destruction is watched from afar by disillusioned sheriff, Ed Tom Bell, who struggles to accept his damned world for the crumbling mess it has become. Bell, ... • 6. The Whiskey Rebellion and the Whiskey Tax The Whisky Rebellion In 1791, under President George Washington, there was a vigorous debate within the House of Representatives to approve legislation to enact an excise tax on whiskey. They choose to pass this law 35 211 because of Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton, who was the secretary of the treasury at the time, was faced with the task of paying off the U.S. debt after the revolution. Hamilton was an avid believer in a strong central government which requires a lot of funding. He realized there was an abundance of alcohol circling around the U.S. at the time that was being both imported and created here that could be taxed. Hamilton stated that there would be millions of gallons imported into New York that would potentially give the government two hundred thousand pounds1. Hamilton particularly pushed this tax to be passed more as a measure of social discipline than as a source of revenue . Today, people may regard Hamilton s remark of limiting alcohol consumption to qualify him as semi prohibitionist. However, Hamilton had a point when he spoke about social discipline and drinking. When reviewing the health issues of excessively drinking that we currently understand in modern times, drinking was quite a serious problem in the 18th century. At one point in time, Hamilton s doctor limited him to consume no more than three glasses of wine per day. The fact that this doctor considered this to be a small amount tells us a lot about societal views on alcohol in the 1700 s. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. What Historical And Governmental Policies Influenced Asian... Asians have been referred to as the Model Minority for decades, but is it an accurate representation of Asian America culture today? This notion derives from the stereotype that Asian families are stable and Asian culture produces success in regards to grades and professions. My questions are as follows: what historical and governmental policies influenced the term, how did it affect Asian Americans, what should Asian Americans do to be treated equally to improve the rights of their people, and how does this all tie together with the core concept of history memory? I hope to answer these questions thoughtfully in my essay. The term model minority emerged during the 1960s as a response brought on by the Immigration and Nationality Act ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Asian Americans have been significantly affected today because of the model minority ideology. The idea of Asian Americans being the model minority encouraged and pushed Caucasian Americans that if you have the right cultural values, you can make it. This causes an erasure of the economic disparities and social issues that the poor working Asian Americans have today. Bernadette Lim, Harvard Undergraduate student, in her article, Model Minority Seems like a Compliment, but It Does Great Harm, raises awareness that the term Model Minority does a lot of harm despite it s positive connotation. The author points out the fact that many southeast Asian minorities are in poverty rates. Included in the southeast Asian category, there is a 40 50% drop out rate. Asian Americanfemale students have the highest suicide rates among college students from the pressure of performing really well. This article also points out a threat of Asian Americans in the college admissions process where Asian Americans are perceived as a threat to other applicants. It implies that society wants a control to racial contents where they only want enough that serves the main interest of society. When you are harming the mobility of mainstream Americans, you re viewed as threatening. • 8. Medical Marijuan A New Miracle Cure Or Is It Still Just An... Our society is being faced with questions as to the relevancy of medical marijuana. Is this a new miracle cure or is it still just an illegal drug? This new member to the pharmaceutical world wants to stand on its own with the many testimonials that can be found for its valuable use. But it still hits a brick wall when those who remain fixed on the programmed lessons of the past. Reefer, the killer of all who intake. Or is it really an actual cure for the world of sufferers? State after state is making the choice to use this as another weapon in their state s arsenal of medicines. Countless people will testify that it is the one thing that saved their lives, while as with everything there are those whom say that this was the ruination... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Illegal drug to be hidden or legal pharmaceutical can be argued until the end of time while there will always be some who disagree, it s human nature. Truly it is hard to remove the programmed thoughts that still remain in our culture that marijuana will always be the reefer madness culprit of the past. Yet the actual benefits need to be given a chance. Why not? If it is something that can help even one person should the public not at least think about it? So while the arguments for both sides remain firm in their belief of the harms and the cures of marijuana, we as an educated society need to follow through with the proper research. Marijuana was initially made illegal at the federal level by the Marijuana TaxStamp Act of 1937. Anyone wanting to sell the drug had to register and pay taxes on it. Then the federal government simply did not allow people to register or pay taxes, so everyone selling marijuana was doing so against the law. This act was struck down after a court challenge by Timothy Leary on Fifth Amendment grounds (of course the government immediately passed another law against it). The IRS, however, still officially requires people to pay taxes on their income from illegal drugs: Illegal income, such as money from dealing illegal drugs, must be include in your income on Form 1040, line 21... In the 1960s the Sitam e Melli ( Against National Oppression ) group formed which was an Uzbek anti Pashtun separatist group whose primary aim was to united non Pashtun to fight against Pashtun dominance. With the Hazaras community hostility towards Pashtuns stems from persecution suffered from the time of King Abdul Rahim Khan in the late 1800s, who systemically targeted and wiped out Hazara communities throughout the country. Their persecution greatly increased during Talibanrule, when the leader of the Islamic Unity Party, Abdul Ali Mazari, was thrown out of a plane to his death by members of a Taliban, after he had gone to meet with group officials to discuss a power sharing agreement. Some of these elements are well known and their names bring vivid images to mind, such as gold, neon, and copper. Other elements, however, are much less recognized. In fact, many people have never even heard of them. Lanthanum is one of these unsung elements. Although, quite often, one may live his entire life without ever hearing of this element, lanthanum is practically everywhere. Far from being a rare earth metal, as its name implies, it can be found in many places, from the bones that make up the human form, to the vegetables that make their meals. Lanthanum is also the core material in carbon arc electrodes for film and photographic studio lights and for floodlighting. Lanthanum Oxide is added to the glass for making lenses because it improves its refractive index, and lanthanum salts are included in the zeolite catalysts used in petroleum refining because they stabilize at high temperatures. It s a traditional mexican party that a 15 year old girl celebrates, its meaning is it s a transformation from being a young girl to a woman. This all began spring of last year. My familyand I began to plan my party. We searched for decoration that corresponded to what color I chose for my party. It ended up being the color pink, although it looked more of a coral. Soon as the song began to my part I danced on to the stage with the other girls. Is was going pretty smoothly but the Dj we had messed up the parts for the music so I had to guide the girls with me to make sure everything goes as planned. The dance took around 5 8 minutes it was really short but we kind of expanded the time. The guest clapped and began to continue to party, around three hours later we had the Father daughter dance, it was really emotional for me because he was really proud of me because I was becoming a young woman and how he would never forget the first time he held me in his arms. Propylene glycol is one chemical remarked to be a common food additive that could also be used to winterize your car. This is one of the most significant downfalls of this method, because you can greatly misprice the value of the firm without considering the cash flows as well as other variables. Another common valuation method that one may use is the EV/EBITDA ratio method. This specific method takes into consideration the value of EBITDA as well as the value of net debt (market value of debt). Another important consideration that investors must be aware of is the type of depreciation method that Cenovus uses. Since Cenovus is a large asset company, this is a vital aspect to consider when using the book value method. If Cenovus depreciates their assets at a faster pace, this will allow investors to part take in a valuable investment and would cause for a positive pick for their portfolio. However, if the company depreciates their asset in a slower manner, this could create a higher book price than what the stock is currently trading at. This may misrepresent the value of the firm to the investor. Investors should be cautious when considering this type of method for valuing companies. Therefore, investors should do thorough research in what type of depreciation method Cenovus uses. The methods include a straight line depreciation or a double declining method. Due to the fact that the city council was so small in size, developers were able to greatly gain influence in demanding for policies that would enhance their desire for even more private development. These differences build throughout the rest of the poem, eventually leading the audience to arrive at different conclusions based on each translation. By translating the Christian ideas in the poem (God, Earth, human) with distinct word choice, Delanty, Donaldson, and David create translations of The Wanderer that demonstrate the pitfalls of choosing inaccurate language. By focusing on replicating the poetic structure of the original Old English in Modern English, Delanty betrays his background as a poet, compared to David and Donaldson, who are both professors. By choosing poetic form over a more accurate translation, Delanty describes a concept of an impersonal deity, a concept that did not exist in the time of the poem, and leads the audience to the conclusion that the poet confused religious views. Conversely, by drawing on Biblical tradition, David and Donaldson inject strong Christian sentiment into the poem that the original poet may not have intended and suggest to the audience that the Christian God held a prominent role in Anglo Saxon religious life. In direct reference to God for the second time, Delanty s choice of Shaper follows a different path than David s and Donaldson s Mankind s Creator and Maker of Mankind, respectively (Delanty l. 85, David l. 85, Donaldson 113). While the capitalization of the term clearly indicates Delanty considers this moniker representative of God, he does not make a connection to Christian teaching. People often take for granted the abundance of natural resources we have as of now, and use them at an unsustainable rate, putting many of these resources on the verge of becoming depleted. • 32. Summary 2008 Financial Crisis The financial crisis began in early 2006 when the subprime mortgage market in the U.S. began to display an increasing rate of mortgage defaults. These defaults lead, in late 2006, to a decline in US housing prices after nearly a decade of exceptionally high growth. Many Americans watched as their primary source of wealth become increasingly devalued. By late 2007, the prime mortgage markets were showing higher than normal default rates as well. Collateralized Mortgage Obligations (CMOs), a type of collateralized debt obligations (CDOs), allowed these problems to spread from the mortgage market to other sectors of the economy, having especially widespread effects on financial markets as a whole. The real economy began to exhibit problems related to the financial crisis as early as March 2006, when investment expenditure on residential structures began to decline. In early 2008, this decline spread to investment in business equipment and consumer spending on durable goods. While the public had been concerned about recession for much of the year, it wasn t until the fall that the economy began to decline at more than a 6% annual rate. From having pristine national forests, clear water, and tough environmental regulations to keep our forests pristine and water clear. Now, in the 21st Century, Wisconsin is losing that right due to Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker. Walker is a big proponent for a mine in the Penokee Hills. The Penokee Hills are located in Northern Wisconsin, in Iron County, just south of the Bad River Band of Lake SuperiorOjibwe Reservation. One consequence on the environment would have been from the pollutants the mine would have given off. One of these pollutants would be Mercury. In the process of getting iron ore from taconite pellets, which is what is mined, the taconite must be heated up, one element that is given off during the heating process is Mercury (WI DNR, 2003, 22 25). When Mercury is in it s gaseous form, it enters the water cycle and helps form acid rain (WI DNR, 2003). When the acid rain is released as precipitation, it enters the waterways and pollutes the waters. In the case of Northern Wisconsin, this acid rain would help pollute the Bad River Watershed, one of the biggest tributaries of Lake Superior, which would be polluted from the Mercury. Pollution of Lake Superior would be devastating. Lake Superior is the world s largest freshwater lake and it s water flows through the Great Lakes, down the St. Lawrence River, and into the Atlantic Ocean, all of which would be polluted. Also, Lake Superior is a huge source of drinking water for a huge portion of cities located right on the lake including Ashland and Superior in Wisconsin, Duluth and Cloquet in Minnesota, Sault St. Marie and Marquette in Minnesota, and Thunder Bay in Canada just to name a few (Lake by Lake, 2003). Another major pollutant is Sulfate. Sulfate is one of the major parts of taconite mine runoff. Sulfate does the same as Mercury except it is mixed in the water right away instead of being in acid rain, though it is a component to acid rain (WI DNR, 2013, iv). Sulfate directly ran off into watersheds creates more problems than if it were just in acid rain. In the Bad River Watershed, wild rice is a prominent crop grown in the water for the Ojibwe. That runoff can form Sulfide, and it has been shown in Minnesota to be toxic to wild rice, helping destroy a means of income for so many people ( Wild Rice Sulfate, 2014, 5 6). ... An Analysis of Three Presidential Elections In this paper, three years of presidential elections shall be analyzed, mainly keeping an eye on the turnout of voter, and the causes and effects of such turnouts. It shall be observed that voting turnouts are directly related to the attitude candidate have and the ways in which they make fellow citizens eager about their potential presidency, and the policies they plan on bringing to the country that are related to the general public. The first year of Presidential elections to be analyzed is that of 1988. Records show that in 1988, in which Dukakis and Bush were battling for the title of President, the turnout was even lower than the average expectation and only 91,594,686 people showed up to cast their vote. This figure concludes that 50.1 percent of people eligible to vote came to elect the president of their choice and the rest did not show interest. (Wright, 1995) As mentioned the 1988 election was not very successful in attaining the president of the choice of most American people because a very low number of people showed up to cast their vote. The low turnout can be explained through several reasons. First of all, it must be realized that Dukakis was a democratic candidate. It is well known that democrats usually attract the low socioeconomic population who are more likely to skip voting for reasons that are not political. However, those with higher socioeconomic statuses, who are less likely to skip elections, are generally in favor of Republican leaders. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Well the outcome is certainly surprising, as deaf people cannot listen but perceive music in much more deeper and meaningful ways because they can feel the core vibrations, hence allowing them to feel the rhythm of music and enjoy it just like hearing people do. The perception of the musical vibrations by the Deaf is likely every bit as real as the equivalent sounds, since they are ultimately processed in the same part of the brain (WebMD). In today s world, majority of people are creatures of sound, and most of them are always accompanied by their best friend; their music player, which has taken the shape of many different devices such as iPods, phones, mp3 players, laptops and many others, they would rarely be unaccompanied by their headphones, having constant access to the Radio or a personal music library. Walking down the street, you come across many people who practically walk into telephone booths, electric polls and sign boards as they are too busy paying attention to the noises and sounds emanating from their headphones, making them visually oblivious to the world around them. He continues by apologizing to her saying, Didn t mean to make you cry./ If I m not back again this time tomorrow/ Carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters (17 19). He is explaining to her that he killed off the heterosexual man he once was and apologizes to his mother about his sexuality. If he is still homosexual in later times, he tells his mother to continue on with life as if he was never gay. The depressing tone and choice of lyrics helped me connect with these stanzas in a more literal sense. Whenever I listen to or read the lyrics, the imagery I see is me killing a man for the first time in combat. I see a twenty year old version of me becoming an alcoholic to drown out the pain and misery. And lastly, I see my mother crying because she feels as if she failed me; when in reality it was me who was failing. I tried to explain to my mother that PTSD doesn t affect me and that she should just continue viewing me as I was before the Marine Corps. The operatic passage of this song made me feel excitement and anxiety due to the singers singing in a frantic tone. I didn t feel those feelings in the lyrics without the accompany of the music. By focusing specifically on the lyrics and analyzing them word by word, I was able to feel the excitement and anxiety of my first firefight. • 52. Similarities Between Bergman And Ingmar Bergman Ingmar Bergman. Ingmar Bergman s films commonly deal with his doubts about the existence of God, earning him the sobriquet the protestant atheist . His religious interests came from his childhood. His father, Erik, was a Lutheran pastor of the old school. Although the two never had a close relationship, Ingmar would often travel with his father to country parishes, where he listened to the sermons and hymns and studied the icons and architecture to pass the time during services that seemed interminable to a restless young boy. His relationship with his mother Karin wasn t any more nurturing and Ingmar grew up in a lonely house. He found solace in Puppet Theater and projections. Throughout his long film career Bergman continued to deal with themes of psychological torment,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Its focus is more on psychological trauma; the explosion of fear and emotion when facing past regrets. There is however, a direct correlation between the two. Unlike The Seventh Seal, the religious element in Wild Strawberries is minor even though both are variations on the questions that constitute the majority of comprehensive themes in Bergman s work. In both films the protagonist must face the truth about his past and present. This is achieved here through what Carl Jung called The Night Sea Journey . A journey into the individuals own subconscious. Dreams and hallucinations are the most accessible mediums of this type of psychic trip; the proximity of death as in Wild Strawberries and The Seventh Seal can provide a catalyst for such a journey. Bergman has an ability to convince an audience that the dream sequence projected on the screen, while inherently artificial is believable. It is through these dream sequences that Bergman s symbolism becomes enigmatic, probing the recesses of the individuals psyche and the complexities of human relationships that could not otherwise be explained ... • 53. Divine Justice In Dante s 5th Canto Canto 5 In the 5th canto Dante enters the second circle of Hell. Here, Dante places the unchaste lovers. This shows that Dante was heavily influenced by the puritanical extremism of the Medieval Catholic Church. The Medieval Catholic Church demonized the feeling of love. It considered the feeling sexual attraction as something impure, which is why all church bishops had to be virgin. Dante uses his own character s emotions to show an important philosophical problem about the immorality of extramarital love that the real Dante Alighieri probably thought about. This canto is important as it shows a philosophical clash of human emotions with the concept of Divine Justice. Here we can see that Dante presents himself as someone who is saddened by the fact that the lovers must suffer so much. Dante Alighieri himself was famous for his love of Beatrice, a woman he never married. So it is understandable why Dante would pity them, share their pain and ... In the 29th canto Dante finds himself surrounded by damned souls who are guilty of simony. Among them is Pope Nicholas III who mistakes Dante for Pope Boniface VII, signaling that Boniface VII will soon arrive there as well. This canto is interesting to historians as this gives us a unique perspective into the political climate of Florence and the medieval world at that time. Dante grew up as a Florentine Guelf. He was a politician in the city of Florence. He served as a member of Florentine Signoria. His political party was the Bianchi faction of Florentine Guelfs. They wanted more liberty for Florence and less power for the Pope. They were overthrown by the Neri faction of the Guelfs and the papal politicians. After that Dante was exiled out of Florence by the Neris. This is why it is obvious that Dante would put Boniface VIII in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I couldn t make out everything from the fact that I was thinking about what was going to happen today. We started heading outside carrying all the materials we will need for the day. So if you were not sure what field day is I ll give you a summary of what it s about, so field day is a day when you hang outside playing games with competition against other classes. So anyways, my class got to the fields along with the other classes and we started the games. When the first second of the first game started, I felt nervous. I was very competitive about things and I wanted to win. I watched as the games went by and I had to because I was the captain and I had to keep track of the score. We were losing badly and making me think of all of the scores made me woozy. When it was finally my game to play I started to feel light headed, but I headed over to my station anyway. My teammates were Gabe, Laney and some other people. Gabe was behind me and Laney was in front. The game I was in was the sled pull. I felt like I wanted to drop to the ground. Finally it was my turn then Gabe tapped my shoulder. You have a tick behind your ear, Gabe yelped. I didn t hear him and whispered, What. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
