Step 2: Trip Purpose and Benefits
Describe the trip or conference including its purpose and audience:
College Democrats of Wisconsin State Convention is a conference hosted by College
Democrats of Wisconsin. Sessions will be offered which will serve the purpose of
allowing participants to learn about pressing political issues in the state. Students will
gain this knowledge through professional speakers who will share their thoughts and
advice. Additionally workshops will be offered which will allow attendees to practice
skills that they have learned, and will allow an opportunity for collaboration with fellow
students. More over, the event will strive to educate students on the politics of the state
through collaboration, and discussion, with fellow students and professionals in the
political field.
How will this trip/conference benefit the Madison campus community?:
Attendees will bring back their knowledge of caucus issues and Wisconsin state politics
to the greater UW campus community. People who attend the convention will be able
to share information in the classroomsetting and within their respective student
organizations. This education will also help College Democrats of UW-Madison carry out
its purpose as a well-informed and active RSO. Additionally, the College Democrats of
UW-Madison is open to all members of the campus community and any information
shared at our meetings is intended to better inform and enrich our campus. Finally,
College Democrats of UW-Madison will be utilizing social media to share information
and updates from the convention including our Facebook page, Twitter, and website.
How were students selected to attend?:
All interested members of our organization are invited to attend without any extensive
selection or application process. Students will be expected to register for the event on
their own accord through College Democrats of UW-Madison.
If you are sending more than 4 representatives, justify how this benefits the Madison
student body and campus community.:
Sending many members benefits College Democrats as it allows members to receive a
first hand educational experience in regards to politics in our state, an educational
experience that could not be fully absorbed if it was passed on using second hand
sources. Additionally, as College Democrat chapters across Wisconsin grow and the
union of said chapters throughout the UW system evolves, it is important that members
from each chapter can work cohesively on issues that broadly affect students. This
convention is an educational opportunity to better understand the issues and political
candidates in Wisconsin Democratic Politics. It is imperative that all interested members
of the College Democrats of UW-Madison organization are granted the opportunity to
become informed members. To ensure that College Democrats of UW-Madison have
their voice as equally represented on pertinent issues, it is important that a considerable
number of members are in attendance.
If you are sending seniors and students graduating in the current academic year,
explain how this benefits the future of your organization.:
Sending seniors from College Democrats is essential to the future of our organization
because they are the leaders of College Democrats and their participation acts as an
example to all of our underclassman members. Additionally, if seniors are seen
attending, younger members see involvement as a tradition, an essential part of College
Democrats, and an essential part of being a well rounded student.
How will information gained from this trip be made available tothe otherstudents?:
College Democrats of UW-Madison will live tweet and post Facebook posts to ensure
members of the UW campus community are able to acknowledge the knowledge and
lessons that are being learned at the convention. Additionally, College Democrats of
UW-Madison will post information about the event and pertinent information from the
event on its website. Convention attendees will also bring back best practices and
