ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF MADISON APPOINTS NEW
SUSTAINABILITY CHAIR, NEW COUNCIL MEMBERS
MADISON, WI — The Associated Students of Madison (ASM) Student Council approved two
new appointments to the Council Wednesday night: Jacob Gardner and Brooke Evans. Both
new members represent the College of Letters & Science.
As a nontraditional, transfer, disabled and homeless student, Evans marks ASM history as an
elected representative.
“I have to say that I’m most excited to bring my communities from the position of the beggar to
the position of the represented,” Evans said.
Jacob Gardner, a sophomore, hopes to facilitate change in several areas on campus. “Some of
the big issues that concern me are sexual assault and hate and bias incidents. I think that I'll be
able to bring a progressive voice to Council,” Gardner said.
Additionally, Billy Welsh was elected as the new Sustainability Committee Chair. Welsh
previously served as the ASM Vote Coordinator.
“I chose to run for this position not only for my deep passion for the environment, but also with
the rise of political debate over the environment,” Welsh said.
Welsh aspires to improve connections between the Sustainability Committee and grassroots
campaigns. He also strives to expand the committee participation and attendance. “We are all
affected by the environment, so it is very important to have everyone’s voices heard.”
