"Kismet, luck, karma…
some people seem to have it all."
As soon as these lucky people start their business, its an overnight success and they know all the right people. They know their clients, they have business mentors, they get great deals through their contacts. They always seem to know someone who knows someone who can give them a deal or help them out with a problem.
You know what? That person can be YOU!
You don’t need to be a natural sparkling extrovert – you can be an introvert and still have all the contacts you need for your business.
Its about finding and keeping those connections.
I can show you how to use social media to start making connections with the experts and the clients you need to make your enterprise a success – without you being overwhelmed.

Keynote presentation for TechFest 2013, University of Alaska-Fairbanks http://www.alaska.edu/oit/techfest/
While much of higher education seems hunkered down in crises of a broken system or MOOC takeover, reports are filtering in from the distal portions of the internet where open, spontaneous, volunteered acts of creative expression seem to be spreading at alarming rates. These reports have been traced to a loose federation of registered students, teachers, and openly participating individuals of all ages in something known as ds106, an open course in digital storytelling. Patient Zero has been traced to students at the University of Mary Washington, but activity has spread to multiple institutions, K-12 schools, retirees, artists, and people of various affiliations across North America, Europe, Africa, and Australasia. The report highlights the manifestations of this creativity in individually managed internet domains and self-hosted blogs, demonstrated in visual, audio, video, and remixed media, extensively reflected upon. Intense activity has been spotted in blog comments, twitter, Google Plus, and social media platforms, including the current incarnation as a "headless" course. The most intense focus areas are around atypical course constructs of daily creative challenges, a web-based radio station, and an open assignment bank.
It is likely some of you will be affected by contact with this information and may end up devoting time to creating animated GIFs, remixed movie trailers, and radio shows.

On September 19, 2014, MACPA/BLI moved into its new open, collaborative office space as part of its strategy to make the "shift change" and begin its transformation to a more nimble association capable of innovating in order to keep our members and clients ahead of the "shift change".
Our office move was part of our ongoing strategic plan which included a major exercise around our infrastructure and what we needed to "build, enhance, or dismantle". That led to a need for a mobile, flexible workforce and infrastructure to support collaboration and learning.
This presentation recaps our process and early results after move in on 9-19-14.

This presentation was prepared for the MIT Digital Currency Initiative Cryptocurrency Bootcamp, and delivered to students as the last session of their week-long bootcamp. It focuses on the cumulative, incremental steps students (and any savvy job-seeker) can take to build their skills, and offers practical guidance on how to leverage technology and tools to build and grow a meaningful network, develop a unique brand, and identify key skills you need to get the career you want.
According to a recent study, more than 60 percent of CEOs cite the need to discover innovative ways of managing their organization’s structure, finances, people, and strategies as their top priority. In order to compete in the 21st century, organizations must rethink how they function—they must adapt or die. Derek Neighbors shows you how to meld chaos, creativity, and collaboration within your organization to unlock innovation. Learn how to balance fun and excellence to achieve results while redefining your organization's culture. Many models try to explain what complex systems might look like or how to determine what kind of culture an organization may need. Walk away with real-life stories of how teams, organizations, and even cities are transforming themselves for the future. Apply what you learn to your own product, team, and organization as Derek helps you learn how to evolve for the future.

Developing a PLN and open co-learning opportunities #UoRsocialmediaSue Beckingham
Developing your academic online presence with social media
Workshop at the University of Reading led by Sue Beckingham SFHEA, Senior Lecturer in Information Systems and LEAD Associate at Sheffield Hallam University, this workshop will provide an opportunity to learn about new approaches and practical examples of using social media in higher education; and as co-learners share examples of effective practice and consider how these might be applied in your own contexts. The session will also provide participants some time and space to network and potentially make new connections.
The workshop aims to provide participants with an opportunity to:
Gain a better understanding of how social media can be used in a scholarly context
Appreciate the value of developing a rich professional online presence
Learn about opportunities for social and open informal learning through social media
Appreciate five elements of ‘working out loud’ (Stepper 2015) and how these can be of value to both yourself and others
Using the 5C Framework (Nerantzi and Beckingham 2014, 2015) as a lens we will consider how social media can be used to connect, communicate, curate, collaborate and create. In doing so consider the value of:
Developing a digital professional persona to share scholarly achievements
Cultivating your own personal learning network and co-learning communities
Sharing learning journeys through working out loud
Programme

We spend more time working than doing anything else in life. Yet for too many people, the experience of work is demotivating and dehumanizing.
I don’t think it has to be this way, and I’m willing to bet you don’t either.
At Google, we’ve learned a ton about what makes for an enjoyable and productive workplace. We’re not alone – lots of other companies, ranging from grocers (e.g., Wegmans) to textile companies (e.g., the Brandix Group) to Brooklyn delis (e.g., Russ & Daughters), as well as academics and scientists, have learned the same simple truth: there are straightforward things we can do to make work better.
My new book, "Work Rules!", is an attempt to bring this together and offer you practical tools to improve work, no matter what you do. Check out this visual preview of the book and visit www.workrules.net if you’d like to pick up a copy or learn more!
The world of search engine optimization (SEO) is buzzing with discussions after Google confirmed that around 2,500 leaked internal documents related to its Search feature are indeed authentic. The revelation has sparked significant concerns within the SEO community. The leaked documents were initially reported by SEO experts Rand Fishkin and Mike King, igniting widespread analysis and discourse. Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).
In the Adani-Hindenburg case, what is SEBI investigating.pptxAdani case
Adani SEBI investigation revealed that the latter had sought information from five foreign jurisdictions concerning the holdings of the firm’s foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) in relation to the alleged violations of the MPS Regulations. Nevertheless, the economic interest of the twelve FPIs based in tax haven jurisdictions still needs to be determined. The Adani Group firms classed these FPIs as public shareholders. According to Hindenburg, FPIs were used to get around regulatory standards.

Putting the SPARK into Virtual Training.pptxCynthia Clay
This 60-minute webinar, sponsored by Adobe, was delivered for the Training Mag Network. It explored the five elements of SPARK: Storytelling, Purpose, Action, Relationships, and Kudos. Knowing how to tell a well-structured story is key to building long-term memory. Stating a clear purpose that doesn't take away from the discovery learning process is critical. Ensuring that people move from theory to practical application is imperative. Creating strong social learning is the key to commitment and engagement. Validating and affirming participants' comments is the way to create a positive learning environment.

4. THE CHANGING WORKPLACE
Check out @hjarche
Standardised work is decreasing
Simple work keeps getting automated, like automatic bank machines.
Complicated work, for which standardized processes can be developed,
usually gets outsourced to the lowest cost of labor.
Social networks can enable
better and faster knowledge
feedback for people who
trust each and share their

Complex & creative work is increasing
On the positive side, complex work can provide unique business
advantages and creative work can help to identify new business
opportunities. However, complex work is difficult to copy and creative
work constantly changes.
Our increasing
interconnectedness is
illuminating the complexity of
our work environments

Implicit and tacit knowledge
Implicit & tacit knowledge, unlike explicit knowledge, is difficult to codify
and standardize. It is also difficult to transfer. Implicit & tacit knowledge

This diagram brings together the foundations of success in a connected world: Relationships, Visibility, and Execution, and how to achieve these.RELATIONSHIPSConnect: Establishing and maintaining relationships with people you want to know and work with.Converse: Engaging in contained and broad conversations to learn and build relationships.EXECUTIONCloud: Using distributed computing as a platform for businessCrowd: Using distributed talent to get work done.VISIBILITYCreate: Creating useful, relevant content that gets seen by the right audience.Curate: Selecting useful, relevant content to create value and build an identity and brand. For different people or organizations, there will be different priorities across the six elements of success in a connected world. However the real power comes when they are managed in combination to both generate and exploit opportunities.Read more: http://rossdawson.com/frameworks/success-in-a-connected-world/#ixzz2iLKWrmMn
You can see that there are seven elements of value I’ve highlighted, and they fall into three “value types”: economic, architectural and strategic. The economic value of Cloud is largely about being able to align the timing and size of the investments you make with the value you receive – variously referred to as “pay as you go”, “pay as you grow”. You don’t pay $millions for infrastructure that only delivers value months or years later; you pay for what you actually need, when (or soon after) you use it. And you don’t purchase an asset that then depreciates (like crazy). The architectural value of Cloud is about having an simple, consistent abstract environment presented to developers and operations folks that hides a lot of complexity, making it much quicker and easier to develop and deploy applications. The strategic value of Cloud might be easily conflated with the economic value, but I think it’s different. It’s this: Cloud platforms help you focus on what makes your organisation more effective and different, and leave all the other stuff to a third party that is dedicated to doing a great job for a competitive price. This is about focus and it’s also about avoiding having to train people to do things that fundamentally don’t add value to your organisation (think “Lean IT” if you like.)http://www.mwdadvisors.com/blog/2009/06/seven-elements-of-cloud-computings.html
