The Chilean Library of Congress aims to bring Congress and citizens closer together. It plans to do this through civic education programs, connecting parliamentarians with citizens, targeted inclusion initiatives, and cultivating disclosure. The Library wants to understand citizens' concerns rather than just their needs. It takes a social interaction approach rather than just being a repository. The challenges are understanding who visits the Library and how to empower and engage citizens in the political process while promoting democracy.

The document discusses the role of libraries in building social capital and connecting communities. It provides background on the Chicago Public Library system, noting its large size, diverse collections and programming, and presence in neighborhoods throughout Chicago. The library aims to bridge different groups and provide equal access to information. Key to its success are partnerships with other organizations, programming that promotes learning and social connections, and services like homework help for students and digital skills training.
The document discusses several programs and organizations in Humboldt Park, Chicago that are working to promote digital media and learning in the Latino community. The Puerto Rican Cultural Center operates several programs including Cafe Teatro Batey Urbano, a youth center, the Barrio Arts, Culture and Communications Academy after-school program, and community events. Other organizations discussed are Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos High School, Los Tequis del Barrio, and the National Boricua Human Rights Network. The document outlines the technologies, skills, and approaches used by these programs to engage youth and further community goals.
The document discusses how civic engagement and forms of democracy are changing and evolving with new technologies and communication tools. It explores several case studies of successful public participation projects and notes that while online tools are useful, they do not replace face-to-face interaction. The presentation argues that communities need more permanent and sustainable places and spaces that bring people together both virtually and physically to participate in democratic decision making processes.

This document discusses managing in a virtual environment. It begins with an overview of becoming virtual and the influence of the digital world on life and business. It then outlines 10 topics that will be covered in the course, including virtual forms of work organization, communication in virtual teams, and customer relationship management in a virtual environment. The document goes on to discuss the internet and its revolutionary impact on communication, education, business, and personal relationships. It provides examples of virtual worlds like Second Life and how they function as social networking and business platforms.
This document discusses a study on public connections and media consumption among college-educated individuals in Mexico City. Some key findings were that people have an understanding of what public issues are but low trust in politics. Public issues included both politics and social/cultural topics. People's daily lives show a blurring of public and private spheres. Media plays a strong role in how people understand public issues through agenda-setting and priming effects. New forms of participation through social networks were found rather than traditional political channels. The document raises questions about how to define "public" and whether youth are interested in public issues, and how they can participate through new digital means or if this discourages real participation.
This document summarizes a presentation by Matt Leighninger on building civic infrastructure. It discusses how citizens have changed and need to be treated as adults through providing them information, opportunities to share their stories and perspectives, choices, legitimacy, and ways to take action. It outlines key components of civic infrastructure like democratic spaces in neighborhoods, schools, online, and for youth, as well as buildings to house citizen engagement, leadership, skills training, information dissemination, and democratic decision-making processes. The presentation argues that stronger civic infrastructure requires involvement from many sectors of the community.
Civil society refers to non-governmental organizations that work to benefit society and express the will of the people. It serves several important functions, such as checking governmental abuse of power, mobilizing against authoritarian rule, and stimulating political and civic participation. Civil society promotes democratic norms and values, represents interests, forms social ties, and develops new political leaders. It works to monitor elections and corruption, oversee government, empower local communities, and promote democratic reforms. When functioning properly, civil society generates social capital through norms, trust and networks that facilitate cooperation. Communicators should support civil society organizations to protect democracy, the rule of law, individual liberties, and civic engagement.
The document discusses the current state and future opportunities for parliamentary libraries in Latin America. It notes that Latin America is a diverse region with a wide range of realities among parliamentary libraries. While some countries still face challenges like institutional weaknesses and public mistrust, parliamentary libraries have the potential to become neutral spaces that help build bridges between constituents and promote civic education. The document proposes strategies for parliamentary libraries to redefine their role, engage citizens, make knowledge widely available, and embrace new technologies in order to strengthen democracy in the region.

The typical problem in product engineering is not bad strategy, so much as “no strategy”. This leads to confusion, lack of motivation, and incoherent action. The next time you look for a strategy and find an empty space, instead of waiting for it to be filled, I will show you how to fill it in yourself. If you’re wrong, it forces a correction. If you’re right, it helps create focus. I’ll share how I’ve approached this in the past, both what works and lessons for what didn’t work so well.

Essentials of Automations: Exploring Attributes & Automation ParametersSafe Software
Building automations in FME Flow can save time, money, and help businesses scale by eliminating data silos and providing data to stakeholders in real-time. One essential component to orchestrating complex automations is the use of attributes & automation parameters (both formerly known as “keys”). In fact, it’s unlikely you’ll ever build an Automation without using these components, but what exactly are they?
Attributes & automation parameters enable the automation author to pass data values from one automation component to the next. During this webinar, our FME Flow Specialists will cover leveraging the three types of these output attributes & parameters in FME Flow: Event, Custom, and Automation. As a bonus, they’ll also be making use of the Split-Merge Block functionality.
You’ll leave this webinar with a better understanding of how to maximize the potential of automations by making use of attributes & automation parameters, with the ultimate goal of setting your enterprise integration workflows up on autopilot.
In the realm of cybersecurity, offensive security practices act as a critical shield. By simulating real-world attacks in a controlled environment, these techniques expose vulnerabilities before malicious actors can exploit them. This proactive approach allows manufacturers to identify and fix weaknesses, significantly enhancing system security.
This presentation delves into the development of a system designed to mimic Galileo's Open Service signal using software-defined radio (SDR) technology. We'll begin with a foundational overview of both Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and the intricacies of digital signal processing.
The presentation culminates in a live demonstration. We'll showcase the manipulation of Galileo's Open Service pilot signal, simulating an attack on various software and hardware systems. This practical demonstration serves to highlight the potential consequences of unaddressed vulnerabilities, emphasizing the importance of offensive security practices in safeguarding critical infrastructure.

The challenge is to resolve
