The short film draws influences from various science fiction tropes and conventions, including a digital assistant reminiscent of Iron Man's AI and glowing blue lights representing technology. The time machine set features a console unit resembling the TARDIS interior from Doctor Who. Lighting was used to highlight characters and add mystery to the futuristic set and forest location. The digital assistant provides comic relief, combining elements of science fiction and comedy genres. Costumes for the assistant and main character were inspired by Aladdin's Genie and classic movie styles.

Codes and Conventions within my Short Film
There were a variety of influences that subsequently resulted in Sci-Fi genre tropes being
present within my film. The concept of a digital assistant can be seen in Iron Man, whilst the
theme of blue glowing lights to represent technology is also present throughout the film and
its subsequent sequels. A set that prominently features this aesthetic is the Time Machine,
which is a trope of the Science Fiction genre in its own right. The Console Unit prop which is
present at the centre of the set is reminiscent of the interior of the TARDIS from television
drama Doctor Who, however was constructed by myself from scratch and therefore presents
its own unique spin on the design of a Time Machine.

Lighting was not only present on the console prop itself (producing a blue atmospheric hue in
the final product), but off-camera lighting was also used in order to highlight the main subject
whilst simultaneously making the background darker and therefore adding further mysterious
qualities to the set. Regarding the second location, it was decided that it should be set in a
vast forest area due to the originality, obscurity and contrast with the futuristic aesthetic of
the Time Machine. This is to catch the audience out and present something truly unique in
style, however the character of Araveb serves as a continuous Sci-Fi trope throughout the
film. The digital assistant also provides comic relief in particular parts of the film, throwing in
a hint of the comedy genre that sits nicely with the already present themes of Sci-Fi. The
simplistic costume worn by the blue-toned Araveb can be seen to draw inspiration from
Aladdin’s Genie, who shares not only these traits, but the character is used for comedic effect
also. Meanwhile, the leather jacket later worn by John Lambert is used to parody the style
that was commonly used throughout old movies, reference images are present below:
