Tattoos and baggy clothing are also conventions. 2) R&B videos depict male artists as topless to attract female viewers, and female artists in minimal clothing to attract male viewers, sometimes in black and white to increase emotion. 3) Rock music videos feature dark clothing like leather jackets, messy hair, makeup and settings with harsh lighting to create a gloomy atmosphere.

2. RAP/
HIP HOPRap is easy to identify through their music videos.. The genre holds many conventions to outline genre. Within music videos, valuable items are frequently
shown to present wealth to the viewers. This includes various aspects such as expensive flashy cars e.g. range rover. This similarly links well to them being
Aspirers. Why? They seem flash items that they don’t necessary can afford personally/ financially. Another aspect that falls under this category are
jewellery accessories that are worn. They are often bulky in size which is worn to ensure that they are visually seen by viewers instantly. Rappers clothing
wear contradicts their flashy valuables since they tend to wear casual clothing which appear to be baggy. This goes with the feeling/ theme of being
ghetto. Nowadays, baggy clothing is barely seen on rappers. Evidently, some reveal their tattoos by being topless. For example Tyga. Sometimes, I identify
rappers wearing large treasured fur coats which now is a rap clothing wear convention. An obvious convention of rap and hip hop music genre is that the
majority of the artists are black men. This is being rap originates specifically from African Americans. To add, the music genre lyrics tend to be based on
reality and problems.

3. R&BSometimes R&B music can be mistaken to be pop. This is due to some of the conventions being similar to each other. Male and female R&B artists differ
in appearance and are targeted at the opposite gender For male artists, they tend to be topless and their body is usually attractively composed which is
used to strictly attract female audience – especially young females. For example, Trey Songs – Love Faces. In comparison, female artists tend to wear
minimal/ sexy clothing which is clear that it is worn to attract a male audience. However, although male audiences are the target audience, all different
types of sexualities are forced to watch through a heterosexual man perspective (Laura Mulvey – the male gaze). Sometimes, typical clothing wear has
been broken by various R&B artists such as Beyoncé - irreplaceable , this sometimes is done to not give viewers harsh visuals that may influence them. I
have specifically identified that some R&B music videos can be created in black and white whilst some are in colour. The music videos that tend to be in
black and white are usually slower songs. The reason for this is to increase emotion by not only the lyrics but the colour which creates a sensational effect
visually. As I previously mentioned the artist Trey Songs, he usually has black and white music videos which tend to be about sex/ passion for love. In
comparison to this, faster and some slow songs are in colour which creates a sense of reality.

4. ROCK
The rock music genre is usually noticed by the appearances of individuals and groups. Artists tend to wear dark clothing – especially black. An example of
a typical clothing item that rock artists ten to usually wear are leather jackets. Their clothing ware is also followed by messy spikey hair and dark bold
makeup which is usually located around their eyes which creates a sense of horror. This is also followed by the videos being grayscale which also creates a
sense of darkness. Without doubt, rock artists have props such as guitars and drums which are played increasingly loud to reflect on the artists singing
being gloomy and chilling though the skin. In terms of the setting, performances are often made at large concerts which have a limited amount of lights.
The lighting sources used are quite harsh which creates a negative atmosphere.

5. POP
Pop music is one of the most easiest music genres to identify in the music industry. Firstly, topics that pop music release are usually about love and
relationships. The majority of the relationship aspects are based around problems For example Taylor Swift – We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.
Swift is a pop artist who consistently produces music that is based on problematic relationships. Another aspect that Pop music encounters is the artist
who consistently wears stylish and fashionable clothing which are used by mainstreamers which reflects on the impact that they have on society’s way
of fashion. This also links well with the settings of pop music videos tend to reflect on where teenagers enjoy being for example going to clubs, partying
and dancing chaotically. This simply attracts their target audience who of course are the target audience. Therefore the setting instantly attracts their
preferred audience. Over 10 years ago, pop artists clothing wear was less revealing than it currently is. Today, artists tend to choose this provocative way
dressing of creating a sexual atmosphere. To add, technical aspects of pop videos have been improved over the years. Animation has been introduced
which reflects on the genre being fun and carefree.

6. INDIE
Indie artists have a retro look to them which is to help viewers identify the type of genre they represent. This usually consists of shirts, jeans and t-shirts
which tend to be in dark colours. There is usually a main leader who is part of the narrative side of the song. This is done by them being placed in the
centre or front of the other artists of the band which is done to ensure that viewers recognise the band through one person. Close up shots tend to be
used frequently to engage viewers with the music by displaying the facial expressions of the artists who are already intensively engaged. Sometimes the
settings of indie music viewers are located in urban areas such as in backstreets, parks, cities, studios. This reflects their budget being quite low.
