Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel was a French fashion designer born in 1883. She was orphaned at a young age and raised by nuns. She started her career as a singer but found more success in millinery and opened her first hat shop in 1910. With the help of her partner Arthur "Boy" Capel, she expanded into clothing and founded the Chanel fashion house. By the 1920s, Chanel had become one of the most successful fashion designers and influential businesswomen of her time, revolutionizing women's fashion with her simple, elegant designs. She remained active in the industry until her death in 1971 at age 87.
