FOREWORD by Karina Andersen, Founder
I am humbled by a year of incredible growth.
We have opened so many new and exciting doors and partnered with like-minded souls who deeply connect to our passion and our purpose. These partnerships have allowed us to extend ourselves even further and gift especially South African youth-at-risk with our enabling platform, a TRI toolkit and our SmilingOne Change Agents!
2018/19 has allowed for years of deeply focused Change Agent work to move to the next level! I love how the journey guides us. It keeps revealing the steps to take. At times we are called to pause and at other times we are called to stretch. It has been a year of huge stretch. It continues to ask for more and that we bow to the process. Only when we bow can we open our hearts and minds to purify our intent. We are here to SERVE a much greater purpose than ourselves. We want to cause ripples of change which will echo in the hearts and minds of those we touch. We want to leave a lasting footprint and be woven into the tapestry of lives transformed forever. Just like nature every single process is connected. WE are all connected! There is a greater rhythm to honour - a grand symphony. My task is to keep us honest and aligned to this wonderful balance which begins with how we as a SmilingOne Team live and practice our own consciousness toolkit, grounding ourselves firmly, moving from our deepest essence.
I am thrilled to share our annual report with you and invite you to celebrate with us the wonderful progress…
In Gratitude, Karina - SmilingOne Founder

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
The Art Pastor's Guide to Sabbath | Steve ThomasonSteve Thomason
What is the purpose of the Sabbath Law in the Torah. It is interesting to compare how the context of the law shifts from Exodus to Deuteronomy. Who gets to rest, and why?
2. Presented by: The sumner county community drug action team the grant to reduce underage drinking
3. “Coalition Growth is something we are proud of… Something we smile at sometimes in the office.” Grant Staff: Marcia Bartelson, CMCA/Grant Coordinator Dusti Fansler, Strategy/Grant Coordinator
5. As a Key Leader/Sector Representative,I will serve in this Advisory Position with other members in the Coalition to promote the idea that:Underage Alcohol and Drug Use is a Local Problem that Local Citizens can Solve through Concerted & Dedicated Action. Commitment -- from the 2010 SCCDAT Commitment Letters, and the 2007 Surgeon General’s Call to Action heart
7. Wait For It Because Timing is Everything. Sometimes you have to wait for things to happen. It can be frustrating. If we get ahead of it, in this kind of work, we’re not going to have the kind of change we want. I would say that we didn’t know this when we started, but we’ve learned it along the way. heart
8. At the Core Simply stated: We have the right people, in the right places, moving our work along. hands
9. Community How Big is our Coalition? We are building our Coalition through a Membership Drive. We have sign-up cards, and can now contact our members with Newsletters and other media pieces from the Grant. Those who sign-up become “Card-Carrying Members of SCCDAT!” hands
10. Policy Change: Immediate Intervention Program for Juveniles MIP Diversion Program Endorsed with the signed support of the SCCDAT Executive Board Partners: Sumner County Attorney’s Office, Court Services, Sumner Mental Health Center and Mirror Inc. Adolescent Alcohol & Drug Information School Programs developed for this change in policy. Parent Component. Addresses Social Access and Social Hosting Laws. hands
11. The Bigger Picture I believe we are part of a national movement where the court is more involved in the health and education of youth. These new programs have stepped up to the plate and said we want to be part of the intervention in the youth’s life. heart
12. Education SCCDAT partnered with the Cowley County Community College design students, who created a brochure on Social Hosting as a final class project. No charge to the Coalition – instructor graded the students on their work. Distributed to registered voters of Sumner County. hands
13. Break the Rules Lesson Learned: Not doing things as they’ve always been done. Strengthening Families doesn’t have to be hosted by a church. (Our Mental Health Center hosts classes.) Botvin Life Skills doesn’t have to be taught by school counselors, or even school teachers. When you start looking for new partners, you realize they’re everywhere. You’ll find them in unexpected places and they’ll make the best implementers. They’ll do it better than you thought it could be done! heart
14. Outside the box Southwestern College Nursing Students will teach Botvin Life Skills to the 3rd, 6th, 7th & 8th Grades in one of our larger school districts. Southwestern College, located in Cowley County, will partner with USD #358 Oxford and SCCDAT to implement this science and evidence-based program. (We met the director of the SC Nursing Program at a Health Fair in Oxford, and that’s where this great partnership was formed! … Who knew?) SC Nursing Students will facilitate the classes, earning community service hours needed for their degree-completion. SCCDAT and USD #358 will host a Graduation Party celebrating the Life Skills Graduates! hands
15. Humility We Can’t Take Credit! We have Excellent Trainers for our Programs! Our teachers give us positive feedback on the Lions Quest & Life Skills programs. Students & Teachers embrace these curriculums! heart
16. Extraordinary Support Let us brag on Dr. Julie Dolley: Argonia Superintendent Elementary School Principal &Botvin Life Skills Facilitator :) heart
17. Healthy Families 18 Families have graduated from the Strengthening Families Program since March, 2010. Two sites have scheduled Fall classes to begin in upcoming months. We are working with 5 Sites to continue hosting the program, and continue training new facilitators to offer the program in other communities across Sumner County. hands
18. Encouragement The Strengthening Families Committee at Oxford First Baptist Church appointed one of their deacons as their “Prayer Warrior” for the Strengthening Families Program. His sole job is to pray for the families, facilitators, and church members who are participating and helping with Strengthening Families. He attends all planning meetings and each of the seven nights of classes, in constant prayer. heart
19. Mission We try to bring all our efforts back to Youth. There’s No Better Way for this message on Underage Drinking to be delivered to young people, than through young people. heart
20. Priceless Lions Quest When youth ‘Get it,’ it’s rewarding. To see them take that to the next level, and assert their ideas in their communities – it doesn’t get any better than that. Service Learning Projects in USD #509 South Haven hands
21. Youth Leadership Ashley Shanlyn Lacy McKenzie Hannah Meghan heart In this work, each small step gets you closer to the overall goal... Freshmen signed-up creating a Youth Task Force. Youth became involved in the Watch Party and the enthusiasm built. For the first time, Sumner County attended theKansas Youth Leadership Summit; writing an action plan to support S.A.D.D. and like organizations across the county. The work of these young people continues…
22. Volunteers The documentary “Your Kids Are Drinking” was the message shared with our community. “Success for me was having a Watch Party with over 300 people attending, and we hardly had to be at the podium!” heart
23. Say it Louder hands Our entire Coalition came together to plan the Watch Party. The Wellington Recreation Center took charge of setting everything up for us, local businesses donated door prizes, and our Youth Task Force was brave enough to speak in a commercial to promote the event. County School Districts aired this commercial to promote youth attendance at the Watch Party. In Belle Plaine, police officers stopped each vehicle as it left school and gave students hand-outs to promote the event.
24. Turn up the Volume On a night when track, school band, and a Chamber event presented conflicts, we still had 325 community membersattend the Watch Party! The Wellington Daily News reporter realized the momentum behind the Watch Party and wrote a very touching article. We were published! The newsletter from the National Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free Foundation highlighted the Watch Party. Hundreds of Parents & Youth signed on as new Coalition Members! hands
25. Give it away Sometimes the uncomfortable part of leadership: Involve more people, and Let Go.That’s how true growth occurs. You’ll see people take things into their own hands, get others involved, and do things straight from the heart. You’ll have better results than if you did it all yourself. heart
26. Heart & Effort …We see this when school districts take the programs offered by the Grant and make them their own, and give them their own identity. …When Strengthening Families sites create an environment that is more positive and encouraging than you could have hoped for. …When media pieces are delivered by others, and you see them in surprise places you never would have thought to use them. heart
27. Heart & Effort … When a high school teacher hands a student a scholarship application and he is inspired to write a song about Sobriety then brave enough to perform it before his peers at his high school Prom and in front of an entire community at the Watch Party on Underage Drinking. heart
28. *You have been listening to : Jeremy Edwards’ recording of Superhero. heart
29. And, when we’ve gotten youth together to talk about underage drinking… The questions weren’t prescribed, the camera was just rolling, and the conversation unfolded naturally. The results were heartwarming. See for yourselves! heart
31. We hope you are encouraged and inspired by our growth and accomplishments. Sincerely, The Sumner County Community Drug Action Team The Grant to Reduce Underage Drinking
