CNBC-TV18 is India's number one business news channel that is currently available in over 30 million households. Network 18 announced that it would be merging the operations of CNBC-TV18 and CNBC Awaaz to realize significant cost synergies and reduce costs. This merger would render around 12% of the company's positions redundant. There are currently 1,100 employees at the two channels and 132 positions will be eliminated, with those affected being offered an average of three months salary as severance. The company expects to save around Rs. 65 crore annually through operational cost reductions and interest savings due to the restructuring.
